I just want to say how I admire you guys, you started with one series and continued reading the rest of the books that was set in the same world. I love it :D

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments I'm on page 187 and wanted to post my thoughts before I continued reading.

Hazel's chapters were super interesting, but why does there always have to be one of them that has a secret that they can't tell the others! Haven't they learned their lesson after three books!

Other than that I loved meeting Hecate. I've been wanting to meet her for a while. I don't know why everyone views her as evil just because she can do magic. I'm looking forward to seeing Hazel be able to do magic too!

I don't like that prophecy about the children of the Underworld. Nico is my favorite and I like Hazel too, so I don't want either of them to be left behind!

I'm glad we finally got chapters from Frank's perspective. I was gonna be salty if we didn't get his, Jason's, or even Nico's perspective. I love Percy and Annabeth, but I have to admit that the story seems to revolve around them more than any of the other demigods and that feels unfair. They already got their own series! Let the other demigods get a turn.

Either way, Frank taking out all those monsters was impressive. I wonder why he hears his father's voice in his head though?

I don't have a lot to say about the others. I'm glad Annabeth and Percy are doing relatively fine. I hope the Titan Bob doesn't turn on them, and that kitten is so cute! I wonder who that Mother Night is? Nyx perhaps? If so I wonder what she's doing in Tartarus.

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments I must admit I was so excited for this that I hunkered down over the weekend and accidentally finished it 😅

So I have lots of thoughts but will wait for you to get to parts of the book before making my comments on them

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments Frank taking the monsters out was an absolute BOSS moment! Like yes finally he’s getting his chance to actually shine and prove himself like he’s always wanted!

Hecate is my favourite goddess so her being in this book was one of the main highlights for me. She gets a lot of bad rep and I don’t understand why because she is just badass

I get what you’re saying about it revolving around Percy and annabeth but at the same time I found myself enjoying annabeths chapters the most and just constantly wanting the story to shift back to her as the whole being in Tartarus thing is so wild. she always intrigued me in the first series so I’m glad we’re getting more of her perspective/thought process.

No worries! If I had more time and read faster I would devour this book too! I'm at chapter 37 on page 294.

Hazel finally learned how to control the Mist! I love that for her! Wonder how they ended up making it around that giant turtle though...

I love Percy, but I'm glad he's finally being called out on being a jerk to people who are nice to him. I've never liked how mean Percy is to Nico just because he tricked him once. Nico's been making up for it ever since but Percy continues to treat him pretty terribly. With what happened with Bob I really hope Percy changes his ways.

And Jason's chapters...oh...my...GOODNESS! Nico! My sweet child Nico! That Cupid fight has been my favorite part of the book so far. I could see it in my head so vividly, especially when Nico started raging. I'm sorry he had to go through that. Felt like he was forced to out himself, but I can also see why it was necessary for him to accept himself and his feelings. Either way, my heart ached for him. I've always kind of felt like he had a crush on Percy and I'm glad Riordan actually went through with it! I've heard he gets better with diversity in each series he does and it definitely shows!

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments I'm so proud of Hazel for that aswell. She really needed a win after feeling like she wasn't good enough - almost equivilant to Frank's first shape shift! It's that moment where they finally understand themselves and believe in what they can do... but I am still confused about the turtle too.

Percy definitely needed that wake up call on how he treats others! And I agree with the Nico thing, it was always sad about Bianca but Percy made it much deeper than that. Nico having a crush on him makes so much sense and I'm also glad Rick went through with it. It was a little sad that he had to out himself when he possibly wasn't ready but I also read that as he almost had to share it and was at a point of needing to verbally accept it - especially with the whole 'being from a different century' - also added to the whole 'he lost more than his sister' thing.

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments On page 405/chapter 53. Less than 200 pages left and somehow we're still not at the House of Hades. At this point with how much there's still left to cover I wouldn't be surprised if the ending feels rushed.

I think the only part that has interested me since Jason's chapters has been when Annabeth met Damasen. Her coming to the conclusion that she needs to work with a giant and Titan to close the Doors of Death was not something I was expecting! I hope Damasen comes around to her idea.

Other than that everything else has been a drag because I just want to get to the House of Hades already. I've been looking forward to it the entire book and now I'm sad that it seems like Riordan isn't going to be focusing on it that much. I was expecting most of the book would be the group navigating it, but I guess not 😞

Piper going up against Khione was kind of lame mostly because without her appearing we would've already been at the House of Hades. I expected her to come back, but I feel like it would've made more sense in the last book. Bring everything full circle. Piper bringing Festus back to life was pretty cool though.

The Percy and Akhlys fight was kind of eh too. Him going on a rampage at the very end was really the only interesting part for me. Curious to see who that person is though. I hope it's Nyx!

I have never felt more bored reading this book than I did reading Leo's chapters while he was on Ogygia. Calypso just feels so shoehorned in. Was having her in here really necessary? I've completely forgotten about her so I don't see why she's all the sudden become such an important part of the story. And her and Leo's romance? Just why? It feels like the only reason she was brought back into play is because Riordan wanted to pair Leo off with someone and he just randomly chose Calypso and forced it to work. It feels like her personality did a complete 180 to fit with Leo too. I don't know, I just didn't like it. It didn't help that his chapters were on the longer side too.

I'm starting to lose my steam when it comes to this book. There hasn't been anything in the story that has really captured my attention these last two days, and even though I have more time to read tonight I'm struggling picking it back up because I'm just so bored. I get that the journey is part of the adventure, but taking 400 pages to get to the destination is too much.

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments I get what you mean! the only thing that got me through it was how much I was enjoying the Tartarus sections just out of curiosity.

Ogygia made no sense to me either but I can see how they're going to use it in the next book.

Khione coming back was also a full circle and while strange it did allow Piper her 'I am powerful' moment like Frank/Hazel etc

I also thought it was going to be rushed but I was pleasantly surprised.

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments I'm probably gonna finish the book tonight if I don't pass out after work. Would you be interested in reading the next one sometime next week? I was thinking Monday or we can do later if you're interested!

Finished it yesterday and took a day to gather my thoughts. You're right that the ending didn't seem that rushed, but I still wish we could've explored the House of Hades a bit more. I'm glad that the story picked up again toward the end though!

Annabeth and Percy made it out of Tartarus, yay! They really didn't have the best of luck there toward the end with both Nyx and Tartarus showing up, but it was still cool to see these really ancient beings. I'm sad Bob and Damasen had to be left behind in order for them to escape. Hopefully Annabeth or Percy can call in a favor from the gods to get them out if they defeat Gaea.

Jason accepting that he's more Greek than Roman was cool character development. It reflects how Percy seems to be more interested in moving to New Rome than going back to Camp Half-Blood. I wish we would've gotten Jason's perspective one more time because I really started to warm up to his character in this book.

I don't know which Frank moment is better, him taking out all those katobleps or him taking charge of those dead Roman soldiers. Either way he's definitely become more confident in himself which I love to see.

Hazel taking charge in that fight against Pasiphae and Clytius was amazing! I love the twist that it wasn't Leo who was meant to take out Clytius but Hazel teaming up with Hecate. All of them working together to wear Clytius down was pretty cool too. I wonder if the Labyrinth will come into play in the last book since it's been rebuilt.

As I've probably mentioned before Nico is my favorite character so I'm sad that he left the crew. I really like the dynamics he was building with them, especially with Hazel and Jason, and I was excited to see how he would react with Percy around again. But then he just left and we didn't even get to see him say goodbye to his sister. I've read the description for the next book and it seems like we're finally going to get his perspective, but I would've enjoyed having his perspective more when he had more people to interact with.

Not a huge cliffhanger this time but I'm still eager to read the next one. They have a big battle ahead of them if all the giants have been brought back. I'm gonna be picking up the next book tomorrow so let me know if you're interested in jumping in right away!

Amelia (whatameliareads) | 268 comments I absolutely love and cannot stop thinking about annabeth and percy standing in the lift looking defeated with the pina colada music playing. I think it's one of my favourite comedic moments overall!

I love the character development of both boys wanting to be more of the other (greek/roman) it's a really good way to start the merger of the two that I hope happens.

Frank had some really badass moments in this book and is definitely coming into his own in the best way.

Hazel creating that labyrinth was one of my favourite moments because I loved the battle of the labyrinth so it kind of proved that it was possible to recreate it/bring it back and I really hope that happens and they use it in the final book although being under ground with Gaea being the big bad seems very unwise.
(Also Hecate has always been one of my favourite goddesses so I was so happy to see her in this and get Riordan's take on her personality)

I love Nico so much and it's a same to see him go. I hope he comes back (your saying he is or we're getting more of his pov is amazing!) I'm also looking forwarded to the new book Riordan's announced that is Nico centered!!!

Yeah the ending wasn't rushed but didn't give me the urgency/cliffhanger I would have liked to feed into the next book.

I have the next one ready to go when you're ready but would need to have finished it before the 18/19th as I have another buddy read. Is that good for you? If so I'm happy to start today and will pop it onto the buddy reads thread

I can start today since I'll be picking up the next book tonight after work. And reading until the 18th should be fine. I'll get it posted in the buddy reads thread today so we can hopefully get a thread by the end of the day. The next book is shorter so 60 pages a day should work, but if we need to change it later that's fine!

I forgot about the pina colada moment! I know they're going to do a live action Percy Jackson series, but if they ever do a Heroes of Olympus one too seeing that scene play out will be hilarious! Riordan is great at bringing humor in even at intense moments.

What!?!? I didn't know Riordan was going to write a book for Nico! You've made my whole day and it's just started! Do you know if it's meant to be a standalone or a series?
