I am a linguist. I speak English, Spanish and French and am currently learning Arabic, Hebrew, and Italian.

Please comment what non-English languages you speak and if you want to learn English. I will exchange English lessons for lessons in whatever you speak, especially Arabic and Hebrew. Looking forward to meeting you all linguistically!

Mandarin and Malay Language

I speak Spanish, read English, and am currently learning Japanese, Quechua, German, Chinese, Aymara and Esperanto.

I regularly read in English, French, and Spanish. I was raised in English and French and took several years of Spanish in school. I am currently learning Dutch and can read simple books, but am not conversational in that language.

English, and if I've had a glass of wine (or two), a bit of French!

And i can speak spanish (though i'm very rusty) and understand german, swedish and norwegian to a certain degree.

I speak German, Spanish, and some Swedish. I'm currently studying Yiddish, Polish, and Hebrew, and soon I'll be starting Basque. I took Mandarin in middle school, but that's a looong time ago ago now, and I'd like to try learning it again.

I speak English and the Indian languages Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil. I try to learn new languages on Duolingo but after the initial interest wears off, I give up.

I speak Spanish, which I am continuing to learn. I’m also learning Russian and Italian.

I speak English, German, Dutch, Estonian and just the basics of Russian and French.

I speak English and Spanish with a smattering of basic French and survival words for travel in a variety of languages!

As a non-native speaker, I will always be learning Spanish and would like to be good enough to read novels without a dictionary! I think my reading level in Spanish is young adult - any book recommendations for me?

Marina by Carlos Ruiz Zafón is one of my favourites. He's also written a couple of other young adult mysteries that I enjoyed. Spanish isn't my first language either.
Another book that I thoroughly enjoyed was Zorro by Isabel Allende. It's a fun read about the legendary masked hero Zorro.

Thanks Rosemary - I like the idea of a Zorro novel! Will give that a go.

Yap, Isabel Allende is one of favourite authors of my mother, I read The Ripper, so I should choose Zoro for my yearly challenge about Chile.

You are a polyglot! My native language is Russian, I speak a little English.

Nobody is mentioning the language of your pets, whether it is dog or cat. Can you understand what they are saying?

Speaking is one thing, reading is another... I read books in English, German, Dutch, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Esperanto and Catalan, but I can't speak very well in any language at all :P

So true-speaking is much harder than reading. I speak three languages well, English, French and German. But I can read Italian, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch.

I love learning languages. English is my first language and I have studied in school French, Italian, Mandarin and American Sign Language in University. I have studied with private tutors for Hindi (5 years), Bulgarian with tutor for 2 years, Spanish tutor for 1 year. I am presently learning Arabic, Swedish, Norwegian and Finnish. I will focus on Arabic because I plan to visit certain countries in the near future.

Indonesian, mandarin Chinese, English, then some Japanese and Korean, learnt Portuguese before but just a smattering. Would like to be more fluent in Cantonese and Japanese ^^

English is my native language, and I’m learning German as a hobby, speaking currently at an intermediate level. I’m enjoying reading books about Germany to learn more about the culture, pick up some new interesting Deutsche Wörte, and so I am more knowledgeable about the country when I visit next.
