Kimberly Bell | 6 comments As authors, we all have a story to tell that is worth hearing or reading about. Our stories are a gift to educate, entertain or inspire others. As an author I encountered much support as well as adversity in sharing my story. Not everyone wanted the truth to be revealed. What challenges did you face as an author?

Speaking on podcasts has been a great opportunity for me. On my recent talk I was able to share my story, inspire others or bring hope to people. It's about letting people know that they are not alone in whatever they are experiencing.

On the show, I share my story of when my life collided with God’s purpose and put me on a new path. Cindy Bonner | 36 comments Interesting to hear from you. My first "indie-published" book (I've been told by a friend of mine to use that phrase instead of self-published) is due in April. It will be my first book in 23 years. I had four books traditionally published, by a literary book publisher, in the 1990s, and so many things have changed since then. I feel as if I have been on a steep learning curve. I was able to place this book with an agent and for almost 5 years she did try to sell it. There was always something wrong. They wanted it to be shorter. They wanted it to be more female forward. They wanted me to cut the first third. They wanted this, and that, and none of these requests came with an offer to purchase or a contract. I had already had the book professionally edited at the request of my agent. And still, no bites. I have always been considered too literary to be genre, and not literary enough to be promoted that way either. In other words, I fell outside traditional publishing houses' low-risk boundaries. I am happy with the way my new book is coming along. I got to pick the cover art. I got to pick the interior type, and design. None of which I had any say in with my old publisher. The one part of all this that has worried me most is the part you take on in your blog -- getting the book out there in the world. Have you paid to have your book reviewed? I didn't even know that was a thing, but I see that even Kirkus will review your indie book for a price. How did you get the newspaper interview? Have you written up a press release of a sort? I'm curious to hear more ideas for self-promotion from you and other indie-published authors.
