November is our Ocean/Marine Setting Group Read.

Let's nominate books that are action/adventure-oriented and incorporate marine or ocean setting!

Here are some other things to consider when you make your nomination:

1. One nomination per group member. The books must be nominated with a Goodreads link by clicking on 'add book/author'. If a book does not have a Goodreads link, it will not be added to the poll.
2. Books need to be readily available, ie, in print (able to buy new or in ebook format).
3. Books should have some degree of action/adventure content.
4. Past group reads are not eligible to be nominated again. The past group discussions remain open for members to comment. You can view the list of past reads here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

5. Books must be either standalone or first in a series (or they may be later in a series if constructed to be read as a standalone).
6. Authors are asked not to nominate their own books or solicit nominations from members.

The poll will go up on October 25th.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 237 comments I nominate Troubled Sea Troubled Sea by Jinx Schwartz by Jinx Schwartz

A cruising couple live a life many only dream of aboard their 42-foot boat in Mexico's hauntingly beautiful Sea of Cortez. But their chosen sea has a serpent: Mexico's out-of-control drug trade.

After witnessing a drug-deal gone wrong, they set off a deadly chain of events that lands them in a sea of intrigue involving a best friend, the Mexican Federal Police, the DEA, US Coast Guard, the INS, and a nasty drug cartel.

This fast-paced adventure is a must-read for anyone who has ever dreamed of cutting the lines and shoving off to adventure.

Phillip Murrell | 100 comments I hope everyone is willing to give an indie author a chance. I don't know Mr. King, but I read his book a few years ago and thought it was awesome. It's a pirates tale in a world where nobody can speak. The sign language interaction made it stand out to me.

If you see #6 in the first message of this thread you'll see authors are asked not to nominate their own works.

From previous nomination rounds I'm aware books nominated by authors will be deleted by moderators, so no author gets more space for self-promotion than others.
There were some BOTM threads where authors nominated their books, but I've not seen one for quite some time now.

Thank you for nominating this book.
This sounds very interesting and I've set it on my watchlist (even if I'm not a fan of science fiction). I love the premise of no spoken language - sign language only.

I"m going to nominate Deep Fathom by James Rollins.

Ex-Navy SEAL Jack Kirkland surfaces from an aborted underwater salvage mission to find Earth burning. Solar flares have triggered a series of gargantuan natural disasters. Earth-quakes and hellfire rock the globe. Air Force One has vanished from the skies with America's president on board.

Now, with the United States on the narrow brink of a nuclear apocalypse, Kirkland must pilot his oceangoing exploration ship, Deep Fathom, on a desperate mission miles below the ocean's surface. There, devastating secrets await him--and a power an ancient civilization could not contain that has been cast out into modern day, where it will forever alter a world that's already racing toward its own destruction.
