As I mention in my mountain topic, every year I plan to read only from my own stacks in an effort to get my owned TBR piles under control. And every year I get distracted by library books that I've always wanted to read or a book that a friend tells me is fantastic. So--I'm going to reward myself with a mountain climb and hope that I don't get too distracted from Mount Everest over in the Mount TBR Challenge...Although, being a Star Trek fan, it would be nice to reach Mount Seleya just once.

Please take a moment to introduce yourself to the group.

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) | 21 comments Hello, everyone! It's Natalia here again! I've been climbing for, I don't know, six years now? Virtual TBR, though, it's only 2-3 and I've been slowly befriending the Grinch during this time. These new and shiny books certainly are attractive, so there will be a few (I hope) of these along my 2022 to lead me astray from my actual owned TBR and I'm gathering my gear for another virtual climb.

Pamela | 27 comments Hello, I'm Pamela, been trying to tackle my owned mountains of books, but I work at a university library, see books every day and get easily distracted by the print books. I have a wide range of reading. Well, then there's also new NetGalley books and local library audio books! I'm starting small here so I can attempt to stay focused on owned books, and will climb up the mountains as the year goes on. Happy reading!

Rebecca Pruitt (beccadess) Hi, I'm Becca, I joined both 2022 TBR groups this week. I have tens of thousands of books waiting to be read, and lots of them are parts of series, so I'll be switching back and forth between my copies, and borrowed copies from the library and Audible, trying to finish the series books I've collected. Up to this point, I've tried to own an entire series before I read them, and as I only buy books secondhand, I don't think I'll ever live long enough to find all of them. I've avoided putting books I own on my Goodreads TBR, so most of the 4000+ on there will be virtual. I have 5 kids and we're currently working our way through the library children's section, so tons of mine will be very short, lol. Hoping these groups will provide motivation to keep recording my reads.

Welcome back, Lynn!

Charleen (charleenlynette) First year climbing, although had I known this challenge existed, I would have been hanging out here all along. Almost all my reading comes from the library. I'd love to climb Mount Seleya, but getting to 100 in a year has been hit or miss since I had kids. Plus I'm putting more of a focus on owned books this year, so I don't think I'm quite that ambitious.

So glad you found us, Charleen! Good luck with your climbing--fingers crossed that you'll be able to visit Vulcan. :-)

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 46 comments Hello! Just noticed I hadn't posted here yet! Second year on this challenge, and for 2021 it looks like I'm gonna reach the top of Mount Seleya! I'll aim lower to start with, though, because I really need to be focusing more on Mount TBR. But I get through quite a few library books just from what I read at work (in a school library). And I always have a stack out from the public library, no matter how hard I try to get through it before requesting more! I'll probably start out with White Plume Mt (48 books) and then level up from there.

Sam (aramsamsam) After a year's absence I'm back for new virtual mountains. There are some really great books on my library's shelves that I haven't gotten around to reading. Also: ebooks. I'm no use at reading digitally and want to try it out a little more. Usually I don't connect as much with a story via screen and tend to forget most of it after a short time. But we have a nice little selection on overdrive and other services, so there are many reasons to keep trying.

Amanda (bach54) | 50 comments Hi, I'm Amanda, and I get distracted by library books. I'm looking forward to this challenge as well as the TBR challenge.

Hilde Helseth Hi, this is my third year climbing and as of today (Dec 15) I have 8 library books at home and I'm aiming at finishing 4 of them before New Year.

Most of the books I get from the library are:

-new books
-interesting older books
-books I just want to read and not buy
-children books from after my time as a child

Almost all of them will be in Norwegian, there might slip in a few in Danish, Swedish or English.

Sheila Howes Hello everyone! *waves* I'm Sheila, and I forget how long I've been taking part in these challenges!

This year I will be attempting Stormness Head.

Jessica (zumbajess) | 66 comments Hi Everyone! Last year was my first time doing the Mt. TBR Challenge/Virtual Mt. TBR Virtual Challenge. I am definitely looking forward to another great year of attacking my ever growing TBR pile! Happy Reading, Everyone!

message 20: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer T. (jent998) Hello everyone! Jennifer from Florida here for my third attempt. I paid for an out of state library card to use their Libby books so I think I will easily make 24 this year and can maybe make it to 36. Good luck!

Susan | 15 comments Hi, Fellow Readers! I’m back to climb the virtual mountains starting with Mount Munch. Thanks to my library for offering both Hoopla and Libby ebook services. When I hear about a new must-read, I try to check there first to see if it’s available. I’ve also found some great vintage mysteries in Hoopla. If this year is like last year, Mount Munch should be a snap ;). And thanks, Bev, for sponsoring our climbs again.

message 22: by Beverly (new)

Beverly Whitt | 4 comments Hey guys! I hadn't planned on doing the Virtual Mount TBR this year because one of my goals for 2022 was to read only from my personal collection (that and so I can get rid of some of the books so my husband stops complaining *rolls eyes*), But alas, one of the audiobooks I had on hold came in and I just had to read it, so here I am: at the base of Mount Rum Doodle again. Plus, I work nights, so audiobooks are a good way I've found to keep myself awake on the 30 minute drive home.

Anywho, good luck to everyone on your climbs!

Beverly
