In January 2022 we'll be heading into the eleventh year of the Mount TBR Reading Challenge and, despite climbing like mad and conquering Mount Everest on the regular each year, I still have mountain ranges to climb. And miles of bookcases to read before I sleep (or something like that). I just can't resist a good old fashioned used bookstore (though they are become rarer and rarer) or the community Hoosier Hills Food Bank Book Sale which adds to the mountains as fast as I knock books off.

So, once again, I plan to concentrate on reading primarily from my own books in the coming year. I finally planted a flag on Mount Olympus last year...but my declared goal will remain Mount Everest. Please join me in knocking out some of those books that have been waiting for attention for weeks...months...even years.

Please, introduce yourself--if only to chime in with me to say "I'm a book-a-holic and I really need to read these books I keep accumulating!"

Brave (bravereads) | 74 comments I'm Brave! I definitely still ended up purchasing books throughout 2021 to try to get that drop of serotonin, so I'm aiming for Mt. Everest again in 2022. I gotta get through a few of the floor stacks, if you know what I mean. 😂

Susan | 16 comments I’m back for another climb. We moved in March and multiple boxes of unread books came with us. My goal is to empty at least three of those boxes in the coming year.

Bev, thanks for setting this group up and once again motivating me to read what I own,

Natália Lopes (silkcaramel) | 64 comments I'm back again, for maybe my 7th year (I really have lost count)! 2020 & 2021 had me adding two new bookshelves to my bedroom, and with it, lots of books to my collection & TBR. I've been making slow progress through them, but overall I'm adding books at the same pace I'm reading them. So, here I am again!

Sheri | 21 comments I think this is my fourth year, and there is still no end in sight for my TBR shelves/books on Kindle, so I imagine I'm here for a while! Who'da thunk I'd be climbing mountains at my age?

Welcome back, Sheri! Yeah, I didn't imagine I'd be climbing mountains as I head towards retirement....

Jessica (covered_in_rust) | 11 comments My name is Jessica and I'm back for year 6 (can't quite believe it) with more books towering that ever before. Since this will be my first year totally out of any type of school and completely HW free, I'm hoping to actually climb a far higher mountain this year :D

So glad this challenge is still going!

Liander (The Towering Pile) Lavoie (liannelavoie) | 29 comments I'm Lianne (she/they) and this is my 11th year climbing Mount TBR! Most of those years my mountain got bigger rather than smaller. In 2021 it looks like I'll have a decent drop! But I still have plenty of books to do this challenge for another 11 years and probably a lot longer than that!

ellen (ellencaulfield) | 11 comments Hi, my name is ellen, and this will be my first year attempting a climb. I've placed myself on a book/kindle/audiobook buying ban for 2022 until I get through my TBR list. I'm going big on this first attempt and am looking forward to the craziness of this reading journey.

Conny Hi everyone, I'm Conny, and this is my sixth year climbing Mount TBR! It's good to be back; thank you for hosting once again, Bev :)
I will update my thread until the end of the year and then put a cap on the list as it stands at midnight on January 1. It's gotten frighteningly big this year and I can't wait to tackle it together with you all.

Meghan L | 8 comments Hello!
I've been eyeballing Mount TBR for awhile, but have decided to give it a shot in 2022. My TBR pile is starting to take over the house and I need to get it under control. Ha.
I'm also a mom, homeschooler, part-time BA student, part-time library clerk, and the list goes on. I'm hoping that by the second half of 2022, I'll have finished my BA program and moved on to grad school. We'll see!

Pamela | 86 comments Hello everyone, I'm back for my 9th year trying to tame my piles of books, but that will take many more years. With the rate of adding new ones, not sure it can be done. In any case, I'm climbing for Mt. Kilimanjaro this year again. Hopefully one year I make it even further, will 2022 be the year? Good luck to everyone with their reading goals!

Rachael (allons-y-bookworm) I'm Rachael and I'm a bookaholic. It's been several days since I last bought a book 🙈
In 2020, I made it to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. In 2021, I'm on track to get to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro by the end of the challenge. So, I guess that's going to be my goal for 2022 too.
My TBR pile is still growing but I am making an effort to read books I've had for a while.

Alanna | 49 comments I am also back for another year! I let my mountain grow again last year, so here's to knocking it back down to a reasonable level.

Also, considering how long I've been climbing here, I wanted to say that you're a sweetheart for running this year after year, Bev.

message 33: by Sophia (new)

Sophia (sophiarose) | 20 comments Howdy, I'm Sophia from Michigan!

I have a hefty TBR stack so I return once again. I'm aiming for Mt. Toro and hope to hit Mt. Olympus. I love this challenge, the camaraderie of the challengers and enthusiasm here. Thanks for hosting and being our moderator once again, Bev!

message 34: by July (new)

July | 23 comments I've been absent from this group for the last two years, after falling down my Mt TBR in 2019. The hills and valleys and beaches I've explored since then have been wonderful, and I'm ready to climb the mountain and take some books off my TBR stacks.

message 35: by Charleen (new)

Charleen (charleenlynette) I'm a first year climber!

I've heard of this group for a while, but I've never been much of a book buyer, and typically if I do buy a book it's so I can start reading it sooner than I could get it from the library. But thanks to deals and freebies over the past few years, I now have a modest mountain of ebooks, mostly titles that I know nothing about. In the new year, I want to start reading through them and hopefully finding some pleasant surprises along the way.

message 36: by queenofgotham (new)

queenofgotham First, let me say thank you for setting this up! I have so many, too many unread books that I've owned for years and of course keep adding to them faster than I can read them!

I was a voracious reader growing up, all the way into high school. Life happens and after dealing with severe depression, among other things, at one point I realized it had been *years* since I had read a book. These last couple years I've dedicated time to picking up the habit and love of reading. It's been slow but steady progress and looking at where I am now I know I'm ready to take on a couple challenges next year. I'm very excited to knock out some of the titles I've been holding on to for so long.

I am an ex-pat living in The Netherlands.

I will use the month of December to

remove books I WILL NEVER read from my Kindle.
I will update my progress on twitter with

It is time to prepare for 2022

Rai FG (rai_fg) | 34 comments Hello all, just spotted the new group! I'm Rai & this will be year 2 for me. I'm going to start from Pike's Peak again and then see how we go. I'm debating giving myself a specific list of 12 books this time around as I got a little distracted by new shiny books this year XD so far there's only one or two releases in 2022 I'm interested in so with any luck I can try and burn through a few on my owned TBR list (somewhere over 200 entries now, oops).

message 39: by Jennifer (JC-S) (new)

Jennifer (JC-S) (jenniferjc-s) Hello, I am Jennifer, and I doubt that I will live long enough to read all of the books I am surrounded by. This is the only reading challenge I intend to do in 2022 (thanks to Nancy Elin, who mentioned it in a recent blog post).
Which books will I read, and how many? I'll have to think about it.

So glad to see you joining me on this climb! I must admit the days spent sweeping through my TBR books were fun! I found so many reads long forgotten but still waiting for me. You have always inspired me to keep reading. I try to keep up with you…at least 10 books a month.

message 41: by Sam (new)

Sam (aramsamsam) I am Sam, and this will be year 8 for me, Mt. TBR has got me hiking! While I brought the TBR down considerably, there are also so many books on my shelves waiting to be reread. Some of them I haven't touched in over ten years, so besides the usual tbr climbing I want to focus more on my old darlings. Who knows, maybe some of them might not stand the test of time and block shelf space I could use for new books! As always I'm looking forward to another stroll up the mountain!
