In each of the rape cases, a foreign object was used. Did you ever consider that a woman was committing these assaults? And, while they were almost identical in manner, there were slight differences. Did you also consider the possibility that there were two separate perpetrators?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I thought there were two different perpetrators, but I never suspected a woman.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I thought that it might be a woman just because they were using a foreign object, but I wasn't sold on the idea. Both Gemma and Lesley insisted that it was a man who attacked them. I wondered about the possibility of there being two perpetrators, but thought the rapes were too much alike for that to be the case.

Lynn (ftbooklover) I did wonder if it might be a woman, but like, Robin, I didn't really take that idea seriously until later.

I believed very early on that it might be a woman because a foreign object was used in all of the cases. It was the pair thing that was hanging me up because I refused to believe two women would be doing this.

Knowing that mostly women would read this, I'm betting that it was consciously put in as a part of the story.

I’d love her perspective on this story.

Marsons always does something unique or very interesting with her books.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3474 comments I agree. Marsons does have interesting points of view that she throws out there to throw readers off or give clues.

I saw a true crime show recently where the murderer (male) used foreign objects on his victims because he was impotent. I guess that is why a woman didn't jump to my mind.

That would be the first thought that would come to mind.

Lauren (laurenjberman) | 1808 comments Yes, the foreign object made me think it might be a woman. I had begun suspecting Kate Sewell at this point (once Nicola was killed), so it made sense to me.
