The prologue sets the stage for the story that follows and it reveals that Cork’s father, Liam, had been killed 25 years earlier in a gunfight near the courthouse. Did that add tension to the story, wondering if his killing was related to the investigation?

Even without the prologue, having read the whole series, it seemed inevitable that Liam was going to die at some point in this book. Consequently I was on the edge of my seat the whole time just waiting for it to happen.

So was I, Phrynne. I kept waiting for it to happen and the more I got to know him, the sadder I got.
