The Procrastinators Book Club discussion

Welcome to the Know My Name Buddy Read Discussion thread! This thread officially opens on November 1st and anyone can join at any time. Please keep in mind that spoilers are allowed in this thread but only up to the group's current reading place. Do not spoil the book if you've read further than the group. Any extra days can be used to catch up!

Each day we will be reading by chapters or page numbers. Page numbers are an approximation based on the hardcover or paperback that is the default on Goodreads. The suggested Buddy Read discussion schedule is as follows:

November 01: Chapters 1-2

November 03: Chapters 5-6

woo started the book! i'm not even done with the first chapter and i'm shook, man

Got through the first two chapters and already just emotional about the whole thing - as I knew I would be. There really is a lot to break down in these pages but I’m on my phone updating and it’s a pain so I’ll get more coherent thoughts going as soon as I am able to from a computer!

i'm freaking out over the narrator. it's like, the way the words come out is so soothing although the content is * w o a h *

Looks like she narrates it herself? I’ve been eyeball’ing it but just checked out audio so I can do both!

Just finished chapter 3 on audio. Hearing Chantel narrate her own story is heartbreaking even more than reading it physically.

Here’s the thing. I’ve known how ugly sexual assault cases can get - the courts and the nasty comments on the internet, the whole circus of it. But hearing her talk about it is still just mind blowing.

thinking about switching to the audio version but my heart might not be able to handle it:(

just finished chapters 3 and 4! i really like lucas - he seems like such a good boyfriend.

(view spoiler)[ after the incident that happened at the end of chapter 4, i'm scared that one of them will be related to brock (i think that's his name?) and then it'll be used against her in court. hoping that won't happen but it's possible:( (hide spoiler)]

Definitely like Lucas. He makes some rash comments out of fear for her but he seems like a solid support for her.

Ch 5

That trial scene.. (view spoiler)[ I can't remember details of food/drinks consumed and clothing worn from a few days ago, cannot imagine trying to recall under oath from almost a year prior. (hide spoiler)]

The outburst she had when it was time for the call broke me :(

Just finished ch 6. I loved the scuba diving scene. That she found a moment of peace and hope in that place; something to hold on to. Also very much admire her dedication to making things better for future victims.

Just wrapped up ch 7 - its a long one. I'm glad to see her (view spoiler)[finally getting confident and angry about the situation instead of doubting herself. I hate how defense attorneys feed on how insecure and unsure victims can feel. (hide spoiler)]

don't think i'm going to be able to read the chapters today due to the overwhelming amount of school work i got, so i'll catch up tomorrow!

Hectic weekend here but I’ll be finishing today hopefully!

Her impact statement broke me.. hearing her voice crack as she read it was just a full on gut punch. She's definitely brave and strong for being able to so openly share her story now/.

i'm honestly so disgusted right now. idk why i thought it was a good idea (because it wasn't) but i went to see the reviews of people who gave the book 1 star and oh my god. "it's not even actual r*pe" "real r*pists are the ones who keep r*pnig different women, not students who accidentally made a mistake while drunk"

That is the problem with this world.. I'm glad I didn't go look, but just knowing those comments are there breaks my heart.
