1. No buying/borrowing books in the middle months of the seasons: January, April, June,
2. Read at least 15 books to fill unread years in my 20th/21st Centuries Mysteries Challenge. This should be easy, I did so well in 2021. 27/15 [87/122] all time. (Started the year at 60/122)
3. Read 5 books for my WWI challenge (trimmed from the unachievable 12 per year). 5/5
4. Read 5 books for my 19th Century challenge. 1/5 [44/100] all time. (Started the year at 43/100)

2. read at least 1 big fat classic
3. the A-Z classic author challenge - I still want to do this, but I need to re-examine my approach for straight ahead classics. I lose steam and then get discouraged. Maybe mixing in more mysteries +/or sci-fi/fantasy.
4. read books remaining on my 2019, 20 + 21randomizer lists from 1001 GR group (Drop City; Infinite Jest; The Swarm; The Good Soldier Sjevk, Night and Day, Gosta Berling's Saga, Indigo, Blue of Noon )
5. Continue to work away at the series I am reading (currently 13, with one in the wings).
6. read at least 2 non- fiction per quarter
7. Mysteries challenge! Work on this.
8. I'm tired of listening to myself go on about this!! Whittle down the RL TBR. It's out of control again + so this is essential.

1. Another 30 books from the 1001 list between now (19 Nov 21) and 31 Dec 22, bringing my total to 685.
2. No paying for books for the month of January. I can borrow them or receive gifts, but not buy them or pay for library reservations.
I think that should be achievable since it's the middle month of a season, so if I have to buy or reserve a book for a task, I can do it in December or February. Ignoring Kindle deals will be the hardest thing...
I originally thought of doing that challenge for the whole year, but I like to complete my goals, and a year just seemed impossible! If it goes well, maybe I will extend it to the middle months of the other seasons.

***3. Progress on my series- Proust, Dickens, Trollope, Christie, Agatha Raisin, Phryne Fisher, James Bond, Mrs. Pollifax, Serge Storms, etc.
*****Make progress on the Boxall's 1001 list and the 1001 Children's Books You Must Read Before You Grow Up List.

2. Complete any challenges left over from 2021.

So, my only real goal is that I’d like to read at least 52 books in 2022.
I’d also like to make progress with my mysteries challenge and with the lists that I have a long-term goal of completing:
📚 The Guardian: the 100 greatest novels of all time (15/100)
📚 The Guardian: the 100 best novels written in English (11/100)
📚 The Guardian: the 100 best books of the 21st century (13/100)
📚 BBC: 100 novels that shaped our world (9/100)
📚 BBC Big Read (27/200)

That's exactly why I joined RwS in 2014(!! wow). I also like that the challenges make sense to me, aren't overly complicated and generally open up a wide field of choices. I was stuck in a major rut before joining RwS. Happy reading, Sue!

Sometimes I try to stick to my reading plans, but my plans have mostly been forgotten the last few months. I've enjoyed most of my choices, and that's what's important.

I thought I might switch my restriction from the month of October to Oct 15 thru Nov 15. Now there is another similar promotion and it's not yet the 15th. I succumbed.
Still, the goal itself has made me more aware and I've managed so far not to balloon my number of books on hand from where I started the year. In that regard it has been a success. I hope I can figure out something similar for next year.
Thank you, Rosemary, for leading me down this path.
