Katie (love---katie) | 576 comments the fact that the audiobook wasn't available anywhere except audible so I had to subscribe to audible again 😤

Katie (love---katie) | 576 comments I've finally started, a little late I know, but I'm flying through it! Already 5 chapters in. I think the world-building is really interesting so far, mixing the fairy tale we know and love with this more sinister world. I'm excited to see Sophia start to shake things up :)

Jamie (captainred) | 40 comments I thought this buddy read started later than it did, whoops. So I’m starting late as well. Yeah I like that Cinderella is history and not a fairy story so people are genuinely hoping for a fairy godmother. I like the main character and already got me rooting for her to destroy the patriarchy.

Jamie (captainred) | 40 comments Got up to chapter 12 and I’m loving the mysteries going on like what’s the king doing with everyone? Who’s the girl in the cellar? Why is Cinderella’s tomb in the woods? I’m starting to think the original Cinderella dying young may have been on purpose. Also poor Luke he seemed like a true friend to stick with Sophia but they took him away too....

Katie (love---katie) | 576 comments Hey y'all! I finally finished and I've gotta say, I was a little disappointed in this one :( I called most of the major plot points maybe 1/4 or 1/3 in, and it felt very obvious where a lot of things were going. I think this author writes some middle grade too, and the plot felt super middle grade to me. It also felt like a lot of the social commentary was very preachy and not at all subtle. I suppose that could be chalked up to me not being the intended audience, but I've read other YA that makes similar commentary in a more natural way. I haven't decided on a rating yet, but this is definitely a disappointment. I was really anticipating this based on the cover and the premise, but I think I was wanting something more sophisticated.

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments Got started on this late but I was trying to finish another buddy read before starting this book 😅

I'm 100 pages in on chapter 10. Just got to the ball part which I've been waiting for since I'm curious to see how Sophia will get out of it. I hope her plan with Luke works. I feel so bad for Liv! The king is a jerk. If I lived in a society like that I'd be just as furious as Sophia.

Jamie (captainred) | 40 comments Just finished. I think I agree with you @Katie it was a good book but it didn't really draw me in and had some obvious plot points. I also struggled on choosing a rating, I've settled for 3 stars. I felt the romance was really simple and rushed. It's not a book I'm interested to re-read.

Elysian (haeliks) | 255 comments Hello guys! Not in this buddy read, but I read the book a few months ago and I agree with all of you?!

I really liked the first half of the book. I was so addicted to reading it. But the more the story went on the plot grew more and more predictable and out of hand. Sophia felt being so dumb for piecing together things 100 pages after I did. Like girl, you would be DEAD if u wouldn't have all the plot armor in the world.

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments I just picked this back up after taking a break to focus on a book I was enjoying more. I'm finally halfway through and just reached the part where they meet the "fairy godmother". I'm interested to hear what truths she'll reveal about the Cinderella story.

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments I have to say that this book has gotten infinitely better since Amina joined their group. I like her insights and the animosity between her and Constance is funny. All the magic she's been performing makes me want to read a book with witches next.

Raquel (mahayhay) | 212 comments Finally finished! I wish it wouldn't have taken me almost a month to get through, but it's hard to get through a story you're not really enjoying. It's not that I hated the book, but I did find it boring.

I think my main gripe with it is that it felt like the author took no risks with the story. It was very predictable. The only time I found myself being surprised was at the very end when it was revealed that Amina was Charming's mother.

Like everyone else I'm struggling with rating this. I wish I could give it 2.5 stars because it's better than other books I've given 2 stars, but I don't think it's worthy of 3 stars either.
