10.7 - Typhoid Mary
Help Thread
One hundred years ago, on March 27, 1915, Typhoid Mary (Mary Mallon) was arrested in New York and put into quarantine for the second and final time. She would remain there for the rest of her life. (She had been released from quarantine in 1910 on condition that she cease working as a cook. However, she changed her name and resumed work, causing multiple typhoid outbreaks. She is thought to have infected about 50 people, 3 of whom died.) In remembrance of Typhoid Mary, read a book found on the Apocalypse by Epidemic list. Required: State which page of the list the book is found on when you post.
10.8 - The Vikings are Coming
Help Thread
Read a book published by Viking Press. This link may give you some ideas: Viking Books. You may read any edition, but you must link to the edition that indicates Viking published the book at one time. So, for example, if you read the paperback edition of Year of Wonders, which is published by Viking's paperback imprint Penguin, or you listen to the audiobook of Year of Wonders, which is produced by Blackstone Audio, you would also need to include a link to the hardback edition of Year of Wonders: A Novel of the Plague, which was originally published by Viking Adult when you post. The word "Viking" MUST appear in the GRs metadata under "Published by."

20 point tasks
20.1 Most Improved Player- Julia103's Task: What's in a Name
Help Thread
I enjoy puzzles and wordplay. When thinking about Norse mythology one thing that jumped out at me is how the names of Norse gods can be rearranged (anagrammed) to familiar words or prefixes in English.
Choose one of these options:
Required: Indicate the option.
Option 1: Odin (the Allfather)
The letters in ODIN also spell DINO. Read a book with a dinosaur on the cover (skeletons work) or with the word “dinosaur” in the title/subtitle. Plurals and possessives work.
,
Required: If using the cover option, you must include the cover.
Option 2: Thor (god of thunder)
The letters in THOR also spell ROTH. Read a book where ROTH is intact in the author’s name. Veronica Roth, Patrick Rothfuss, Joyce Brothers
Option 3: Loki (god of mischief)
The letters in LOKI also spell KILO, the prefix for thousand. Read a book with “thousand” in the title, subtitle or series name. It can either be spelled out or as numbers. "Thousand" as part of a hyphenated word is acceptable. Plurals and possessives work. Years in the title like 1776, The Year's Best Science Fiction & Fantasy, 2014 or 2001: A Space Odyssey) do NOT work. If the number is NOT being used as a year, and is normally pronounced with "thousand", it does work- 1001 Ways to Reward Employees
ex. 1,000 Places to See Before You Die, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea, On Paper: The Everything of Its Two-Thousand-Year History, The Dog Who Couldn't Stop Loving: How Dogs Have Captured Our Hearts for Thousands of Years
Option 4: Tyr (god of war)
The letters in TYR also spell TRY. Read a book from the first 10 pages of either of these shelving lists Did Not Finish or Abandoned.
You must finish the book (smiley).
Required: State the shelf and the page on which your book appeared.
20.2 Rookie at the Top - Maryn’s Task: Midwives Help People Out
Help Thread
April is the month in which my husband and our oldest son were born. All of our children have been born with the help of midwives, so I’ve created this task in their honor.
Read ONE book from the following options.
Required: State which option you chose when you post.
Option One: Read a book with the word “midwife” or “birth” in the title or subtitle. Plurals and possessives work, but no other variations.
Option Two: Read a book where a midwife is a main character. This can be fiction or non-fiction.
Required: if the midwife’s role is not obvious from the Goodreads description, explain how the book fits the task.
20.3 - Best Review - Cait S's Task: Thinly Veiled Marvel References
Help Thread
Alright, I’ll be honest with you all. I don’t know a whole lot about Norse mythology. What do I know a lot about? How flawless Chris Hemsworth is. I’ve done extensive research on this, in fact. So this task might not be mythologically accurate. But it is accurate to Marvel’s superior Avenger (sorry, Cap) and that totally counts.
NOTE: Books with the genres “graphic novel”, “sequential art”, or “comics” etc MAY be used for this task as long as they meet SRC requirements.
This is a one book task so choose one of the following options.
Required: State the option you chose when you post.
Option 1: Scared of a Little Lightning?
Thor, the bare necessities: Genetically blessed son of Odin, lots of thunder and lightning, laughs in the face of danger, fantastic hair (because he’s worth it) arrogant and can totally back it up but deep down he’s really kind of soft.
Read a book with the word thunder, lightning, or storm in the title, subtitle, or series name. To keep things simple, plurals and possessives are okay, but no other variations will be accepted.
Option 2: Science and Magic
Thor describes his home as a place where science and magic are one in the same.
Read a book with the genre science, science fiction, or magical realism on it’s main page. Genres may stand alone or be embedded.
Option 3: This Book, I Like It-- Another!
Thor is really enthusiastic about acquiring a second cup coffee. For me, reading is the most fun when I’ve been looking forward to something that I’m pretty sure I’m going to like.
So choose a series you have already started and enjoyed, and read the next book in it. Re-reads are NOT allowed. Books must be listed as a series number higher than 1 on Goodreads. Any other number is acceptable, wherever you are at with the series is fine.
Required: State that this book is not a re-read for you.
Option 4: He Is My Brother
Everybody has family drama. Thor...well, he might have slightly more than some others. But despite Loki being a less than swell guy (you know, to put it mildly), he is Thor’s brother and Thor never forgets it. Read a book where one of the main characters is someone’s brother or has a brother. This fact must be evident from the book’s summary on Goodreads.
Option 5: If He Be Worthy
In order to wield Mjolnir, Thor’s mighty hammer, the one attempting to pick it up must be worthy of the power. That means Thor is just as good on the inside as he is on the outside. Which is...really, really good.
Read a new to you book that has been highly recommended to you or that you’ve heard a lot about and see if it was worth the hype!
Required: State that this book is not a re-read for you.
20.4 – Author! Author! - Elizabeth P's Task: End of an Era
Help Thread
This is my second year participating in Americorps, a volunteer program sponsored by the United States government. It’s a lot like the Peace Corps, except I moved to Colorado instead of a new country (a girl’s gotta ski!). Regardless, this June my time will be completed, and I’ll have to find something new to do. So, I decided this task would be dedicated to the things that go along with my service term!
Choose one of the following options and read one book for that option.
Required: State Option.
Option One: Tutor Time
My main volunteering job during the past two years has been at an elementary school, where I tutor K-3 graders in reading. I work one on one with 15 students for 20 minutes every day, which usually flies by because my kids are so awesome.
Read a book with exactly two people on the cover.
Examples:
Required: Include Cover
Option Two: Repetition, Repetition, Repetition!
All 15 of my kids are put into one specific intervention, which we do every day. So, even though the stories (usually) change, we always do the same thing. And a lot of my kids are in the same intervention, which means that I can read the same story six times in one day and it’s not odd at all.
Read a book that has three words in the title, two of which must start with the same letter. Subtitles can be ignored.
Examples: Season of Storms, About a Boy, The Great Gatsby, One Plus One, Life After Life
Option Three: So Many Hours!
I have to complete over 1700 volunteer hours in order to finish my service. So, in addition to all my time at the elementary school, I also volunteer at the library, the children’s museum, and lots of 5Ks. Fun fact about volunteering – you often get t-shirts and free food just for giving up some of your time. It’s a great way to make friends and feed yourself!
Read a book whose author’s first and last name (name in the last position) initials are in the word VOLUNTEER. Middle initials can be ignored, letters can only be used as often as they appear (E used twice, the rest once).

20.5 - Bigger is Better – ChrisEverest’s Task – Love and Not Quite Love
Help Thread
My two favourite writers, both no longer with us, are Robert B. Parker – the American crime writer -and Alan Plater – a particularly Northern type of Englishman (ie Don’t think of Grey suits, Umbrellas and Bowler hats).
Read ONE book from one of the following options.
Required: State which option you chose when you post.
Option 1- LOVE: Read a book by a single author (no co-authors or books by multiple contributors) whose last name (name in the last position) ends in –ER
The book must be by an author who is new to you this season.
Required: State the author is new to you.
Optional: If you have never read Parker or Plater you are doubly-blessed and I would love to read any book reviews by newcomers to their writing.
Option 2: NOT QUITE LOVE: Read James Joyce’s Ulysses (Any edition)
This is the nightmare book that haunts me - I have NEVER finished it. I’ve started it so many times that I have despaired of a straightforward readthrough. It is so obviously a magical book but I get sidetracked every time I try to read it. Soooooo I am now writing/copying it out by hand – a line or so every day in my journal. As it’s the record of one single Dublin day in one man’s life I have decided it can give structure and meaning probably for the remainder of my days.
This can be a re-read for the truly heroic.
20.6 Seasoned Reader: Diane Whitney's Task: I Spy Spring with the letter B
Help Thread
On March 7th, I will celebrate my 50th Birthday and I’m feeling a bit nostalgic. This task is based on the popular children’s game and book series, I SPY.
However, my version is for adults. So, books with the genre children or kids may NOT be used for this task.
I spy with my little eye, signs of Spring…
A Baseball
A Bird
A Bird Nest
A Blossom
A Bunny Rabbit
A Bumbershoot (Umbrella)
A Bumble Bee
Read a book that fulfills A AND B.
A. Using the list above, AT LEAST ONE of the objects must appear on the cover. For example, a cover may have two umbrellas, several blossoms or contain both a blossom and a bumble bee.
AND
B. Books must be a Minimum of 300 pages and MUST include only numbers from the following number sequence, my birthday 03/07/1965. (ex. 301, 379, 500 pages) Numbers may only be used as many times as they occur.
NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or audiobook use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.
And remember, books with the genre children or kids may NOT be used for this task.
ex.
umbrella 306 pages,
bees, 375 pages
Required: Include the Book Cover. Identify the item and point it out if it is not easily seen. Remember to link to the book edition that you read and if necessary the qualifying edition that indicates the page numbers to fulfill B.
20.7 - Shorter is Sweeter- BellaGBear’s Task: Relive Childhood Feelings
Help Thread
This task is for all those who still remember that it was way better to be a child or for those who have forgotten it.
If you really want to get into this task it is recommended to read the book on a swing, because those things are still awesome.
Note: Books with the genre children or kids may NOT be used for this task.
Read a book found on this shelf list Child Narrator or on the listopias Adult Fiction with a Child Protagonist or Juvenile Narrators
Be careful, not every book on a list may work, and remember, no childrens genres.
Required: State which list you used and the page or page and number of your book on the list.

25.4 - Hina's Task: Evolution of Mythology to Fairy Tales and to Disney's Animated Movies.
Help Thread
When my nephew was not even a year old, he fell in love with the movie Frozen and the popular song. He could say ma-ma and da-da and his third word or more of a phrase that he learned was to sing, Let It Go. Watching this movie of a princess who sets off on a journey, I realized that how many themes intertwined from mythology are connected with fairy tales which are now movies for our entertainment.
This is a 2 book task. Please choose 2 different options and read one book for each. Note: Books with genre "kids" or "children" are NOT allowed.
Required: Identify the options
Option 1: Disney Animated Movies - In honor of Disney animated movies, Read a book with a title (subtitles EXCLUDED) that contains a word* of at least three letters that appears in a movie title from the List of Animated Disney Movies. The following words are excluded: the, and. The word must match exactly, NO variations. *Words are alpha characters- numerals and Roman numerals may NOT be used. You may NOT substitute "two" for "2".
Required: State the Disney movie title you are using in your post.
Option 2: Frozen - In recognition of my nephew's favorite song. Read a book where ALL the letters in "Let It Go" (EGILTTO) appear in any combination of the book's title (subtitles EXCLUDED) and/or author's first or last name. Middle names and initials should be ignored. The letters may appear more often in the title and/or names, but all 7 (2 T's) letters must appear at least once.
Option 3: Lightheartedness - Disney movies provide a lighthearted mood for its audience with a good story and a little humor. Read a book that has "humor" or "funny" in the main page genre list.
Option 4: Cinderella - is probably my favorite animated movie and fairy tale. Now it's coming out in film in March. Since Cinderella is going to have some really cute shoes, read a book with the cover that shows a shoe(s) with high heels. 25.5 - Nikki's Task: A Viking Pillage
Help Thread
Like a lot of raiders in history, the Viking were known for their fondness for pillaging and taking things that didn't belong to them. So for this task, read a book with something in the title and/or subtitle that is worthy of being pillaged, nicked, pinched, stolen or misappropriated.
A few boundaries :
* It must be tangible so no things like souls, ghosts, virtues or mythical creatures.
* No humans or human-form things, so nothing like girls, kings, zombies or vampires.
* Animals, food, possessions, etc. do work, but no brand names or proper nouns. We all live in different places so while I would happily pillage a truck full of Tim-Tams, most of you don't know what chocolately heaven that would be so its makes no sense.
* The item must be moveable and able to fit on a truck. Cars and even trucks are ok, but no buildings. Yes, a house can sort of fit on a truck, but its no quick getaway.
* It must be something of value, so no twigs, air, dirt, etc. A reasonable person wouldn't be upset if dirt was stolen.
* It must be a specific item with its own value, not a general collective term like treasure or snacks.
* Plurals and possessives work.
You can read 1 or 2 books, but the page total must be at least 500 pages.
NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or audiobook use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. 25.6 - Morgan Faeriesfolly's task: We're a Cozy Mystery
Help Thread
All the blame for getting me addicted to SRC rests solely on one set of shoulders--those of my BFF "Cait S." I practically stood up to torture as she tried to get this task idea out of me early, but hopefullyyour freakin' apple pie the surprise was worth it! I couldn't ask for a better friend, confidante, and partner in various shenanigans.
In toying with different ideas for this task, I discovered that there is a series of cozy mysteries entitled "Cait Morgan". (Hence the random task title.)
This is a TWO BOOK task.
There are three options to represent the three years we've been attached at the hip (going on #4!)
Since Cait and I can be brain twins, but are also very different in other ways you can:
1) choose two different options below
OR
2) choose one option and do it twice!
Required: State your chosen option(s) when posting.
Option One :: The family business
One of our favorite TV shows is 'Supernatural'. She's the Dean to my Sam.
Read a book with 'Supernatural' in the main page genres. Variations/embedded genres such as 'Fantasy > Supernatural' or 'Supernatural Romance' are acceptable.
Option Two :: Sometimes it's about girls
We talk all the time. About *everything*. (And sometimes that involves genetically engineered space marines...)
The Bechdel Test is as follows:
(1) Does the work of fiction have at least two (named) female characters?
(2) Who have a conversation with each other?
(3) About something other than a man?
If something meets all three, it passes.
For this option, read a book that you find on the Speculative Fiction that Passes the Bechdel Test list.
Required: Include the book's position on the list, and the page where it is found.
Option Three :: Defender of the Hawthorne
In fitting with the Valkyries and shieldmaidens in Norse mythology, Cait will defend her favorites (either fandom or physical loved ones) to the bitter end. She will also lift them up out of the ashes of whatever a heartless author puts them through and bring them to their well-deserved Valhalla in her heart.
Read a book where the author's initials can be found in VALKYRIE. Middle names/initials *do* count and all letters can only be used once. Each space defines a name and all name initials must be present. Hyphenated names count as one name.
25.7 - Dakimel’s Task: Awards Season
Help Thread
A couple of my favorite book-ranking events happen during the Spring SRC – the Morning News Rooster Tournament of Books and the Audies Awards.
This is a two-book task. You MAY do the same option twice. REQUIRED: Identify the option(s).
Option A:
Read a book from this year’s Tournament of Books Rooster long-list. NOTE: because Area X: The Southern Reach Trilogy went onto the shortlist as the first book in the series, you can read any one book from Southern Reach Trilogy for this task.
Required: State the book's number on the list.
Optional: follow the Tournament of Books and root for your favorite to win!
Option B:
Read (or listen to!) a nominee for a 2015 Audies award. Beware! Many of the nominees do not meet the requirements for the challenge, so pick wisely. Some but not all of the nominees are on this list: 2015 Audies Nominations
Required: Identify the category or the number on the list.
Optional: If you listened to the book, say if you think it deserves to win!
25.8 - Coralie's Task: Anzac Day
Help Thread
25 April 2015 is the centenary of Anzac day.
Read 2 books from the following options. You MAY do the same option twice.
Required: Indicate the option(s).
Option 1: WHO?
They were Australian and New Zealanders.
Read a book written by an author born in Australia or New Zealand.
Required: If the author's birthplace is not indicated on his or her Goodreads profile page include a reference.
Option 2: WHAT?
They were fighting a war.
Read a book with the genre 'war' on the main page. The genre must be stand-alone NOT embedded.
Option 3: WHERE?
They were fighting in Turkey.
Read a book set (at least 50%) in Turkey.
Option 4: WHEN?
The war was between 1914 and 1918.
Read a book first published between 1914 and 1918 inclusive.
25.9 - Nick KY’s Task: “Y”
Help Thread
For this challenge, the letter “Y” means “Yggdrasil,” the great World Ash Tree, not only because it is the first letter of the word, but because of “Y’s” tree-like shape, and the fact that in Norse mythology the Ash Tree was the source of letters (Runes) in the first place. Today, the shape of “Y” can be inverted and, with a short line added, turned into a Peace Sign. What a dyverse letter!
Here are some options for this task. Please choose two different options and read 1 book for each. Each book must meet all SRC requirements:
Required: Tell which Options you choose.
Option 1. Read a book with the letter “Y” somewhere in the title or subtitle.
Option 2. Read a book with “peace” found intact in a word in the title or subtitle, OR a book from the Popular Peace Books list. Please limit your choices to the first 200.
Required: Tell us on which page (1,2,3, or 4) your choice falls and the date you accessed it
Option 3. “Y” means “Yggdrasil” the Great Ash Tree, which means wood, which means fuel for the fire --- which brings me to one of my favorite books I have read since joining the SRC: Fire Season: Field Notes from a Wilderness Lookoutby Philip Connors. For option 3, you may read Fire Season, or you may read Philip Connors’ newest book, released in Feb. 2015, All the Wrong Places: A Life Lost and Found
OR
you may read any book from one of the following Listopias upon which Fire Season falls. Note: Fire Season falls on a lot of listopias, but only these four will work for this task:
Books Set in New Mexico
Real Man Books
Banff Mountain Book Festival Award Winners
Firefighters
Required: Tell which Listopia you picked and what number on the listopia your choice falls.
Since “Y” has only three spokes, I am giving only three options. Ynjoy!
25.10 - Sirena's Task: Ready for Their Close-up
Help Thread
I always get excited to watch the Oscars because it often inspires me to see new movies and to try new genres - and now it has inspired this task. This is a two book task; so please pick two options and read one book for each.
Note: Books with a main page genre of Kids or Children's may NOT be used for this task.
Required: Identify the options
Option 1: Shorts: My favorite category over the last several years has been Best Live Action Short. For this task, read a book with a page count between 100 and 200 pages.
NOTE: ebooks without print versions cannot be used for tasks requiring a specific number of pages. If you read an ebook or audiobook use the page count for the mass market paperback if one exists. If there is no mass market paperback edition, use the paperback edition and if no paperback is available use the hardcover edition.
Option 2: Adapted Screenplay: Inspired by Graham Moore's moving acceptance speech, read a work that was made into an Oscar-NOMINATED adapted screenplay. Winning and losing nominees are allowed. In the table, the right column titled Adapted from lists the original work that was adapted. You may select a novel, a play, memoir, a book, etc. Nominees that say adapted from a/the Story, short story, article or comic strip do not work for this task.
Required: State the year the film was nominated.
Option 3: Supporting Actress: I was disappointed in the Best Supporting Actress category this year, but it is a category that always features important female performances. For this task, read a book where the author shares their first name with an actress who has WON an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Names must match EXACTLY. Winners are highlighted in yellow and appear at the top of the year's nominees.
Required: Name the actress.
Option 4: Song: This year, Common and John Legend delivered a very powerful and moving performance of their song "Glory" from the movie "Selma." For this task, read a book by an author whose initials can be found in GLORY and/or SELMA. You can use letters from one or both words. Author middle initials may be ignored. Letters may only be used as many times as they occur.
Option 5: Director: Alejandro González Iñárritu won the Best Director award for his film "Birdman," and used his spotlight to advocate immigrant respect and dignity. For this task, read a book from the Immigrant Experience Literature list.
Required: State the number and page on which the book can be found.
25.6 - Morgan Faeriesfolly's task: We're a Cozy Mystery
Help Thread
All the blame for getting me addicted to SRC rests solely on one set of shoulders--those of my BFF "Cait S." I practically stood up to torture as she tried to get this task idea out of me early, but hopefully

30 point tasks
30.1 - Jonquil's Task: Straight on Till Morning
Help Thread
Spring is when the young people I work with make momentous choices about the next phase of their life. The adults in their lives watch with hope and trepidation as the students struggle to select and commit to a school or a job. Waiting to hear from colleges, graduate schools or potential employers, and then helping the young person to decide is more jarring than a carnival ride.
This is a TWO BOOK challenge
This challenge is about new beginnings, so please no rereads. REQUIRED: State that neither book is a re-read when you post.
Book 1 In solidarity with these new graduates, read a book with a roller coaster, carousel or Ferris wheel on the cover. The pictured ride should appear to be carnival-sized, not a toy, miniature, music box, snowglobe, etc. As shown on the covers below, just a portion of the roller coaster, carousel or Ferris wheel is acceptable if the other criteria are met.
REQUIRED: Include the cover in your post.
Book 2 Shifting from full time student to full time employee is a huge life change. Read a book where the Main Character has made a major career change. This must be a completely new (paid) profession, not just a promotion, new employer, undercover assignment or a hobby. Examples: pop star becomes assistant dorm director Size 12 Is Not Fat; boxer/art forger becomes insurance investigator Quinn Checks In; widow becomes a CIA spy The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax; downsized banker runs orchard One Bad Apple. Fiction and non-fiction will work.
REQUIRED: List the protagonist’s previous career and their new occupation.
REQUIRED: State that neither book is a re-read when you post.
30.2 Dlmrose's task: Initial Impressions
Help Thread
Book 1: Read a book written by a single author who uses at least 2 names (first and last name, first initial and last name or any other configuration). Spaces define separate names. Hyphenated names are counted as one name. All names count.
Book 2: Using the initials from the author of Book 1, read a book where the title (excluding subtitle) is comprised of words beginning with the letters of the author's initials- see the examples below. The beginning letters must be in the same order and frequency as the author's initials. All title word letters must appear in the initials. All words count including articles: "The" "A" etc.. Ampersands "&" should be treated as "A". Numbers should be treated as if written out- 3 = three = "T"; double digit numbers are hyphenated and treated as one word "33" = thirty-three = T. Roman numerals should be treated as numbers- VII = seven = "S".
Ex.
Book 1
The Cellist of Sarajevo by Steven Galloway
Steven Galloway =Initials S.G.
Book 2
Skin Game
Skin Game = title letters S.G.
Through a Howling Wilderness: Benedict Arnold's March to Quebec, 1775 by Thomas A. Desjardin

The Anarchist Detective:
The Anarchist Detective = title letters T.A.D.

Two books, fiction or non-fiction. Choose two options.
For this task you will read two books composed or written during, set in, or about, the time period given. This must be clear from the GR front page data, or else provide a link that makes this time period clear.
Please Note - Alternate history, steampunk, science fiction or fantasy genres will NOT be allowed for this challenge unless the book was written during the time period selected.
Books in translation should be attributed to the time period of the original appearance of the story, not to the publication date of the translation. Please provide a link to verify the attribution of the original, if needed. Only actual translations of earlier works are allowed in this way. Retellings and re-imaginings are considered new works. General mythology, tales and legends are considered new works also.
If the setting is used as justification for the book's placement on the timeline then the time period given must make up at over 50% of the book. Also, it's the reader's responsibility to provide a link to a reference to the time period of the book if the GR record is not clear.
REQUIRED: Identify the options. Tell whether its written during, set in, or about, the time period. Provide a link to support this if it's not obvious from the GR description.
Option 1 Ancient World
Read a book written/composed during, set in or about the Ancient World, before 200 AD.
Option 2 Post-Classical Era
Read a book written/composed during, set in or about the Post-Classical Era, from 200 AD to 1200 AD.
Option 3 1200-1699
Read a book written during, set in or about the time period from 1200 through 1699.
Option 4 1700-1899
Read a book written during, set in or about the time period from 1700 through 1899.

30.7 - Delicious Dee's Task - I Love My Library!
Help Thread
As a book-lover some of my earliest recollections as a child were going to the library on Saturday mornings. I loved just dragging my fingers along the books on the shelves and randomly selecting a book. To an extent I still do the same thing today. I may visit the library to pick up a book for an SRC task (or for some other reason) and then I start looking at other books around it on the shelves, trying to find a new author to try. And so, a task is born.
For this task you will read TWO BOOKS by TWO AUTHORS WHO ARE NEW TO YOU
1. Select 2 authors you read for the first time last season during SRC (if you didn’t participate in SRC, then select 2 authors that were new-to-you in December/January/February). The books may have been fiction or non-fiction.
2. For each author, select a work of FICTION by a single new-to-you author whose last name falls within the range of the provided library shelves.
See the shelves larger click Here
For the purposes of this task, the last name will be the author's name in the last position preceded by a space.
EX. if new-to-you last season:
Daphne du Maurier's last name is Maurier and you would use the LOG-MCC shelf to find your book's author. Your book could be by Elizabeth Lowell or Peter May
Alexander McCall Smith's last name is Smith and you would use the SKI-SSZ shelf to find your book's author. Your book could be by Maria V. Snyder or Robin Sloan
Required: State the following when you post:
> the authors that inspired your choices, and that those authors were new-to-you in December-February;
> the shelves where those author's names would be shelved; and
> that the 2 authors you found on those shelves are also new-to-you.
