This cave is full of thick, wet mist that rolls through it, blocking your warmth and your sight. Your legs will feel as of something is creeping up them...and maybe something is. This creature pictured above also lives here, so bewared if you decide to shelter yourself here. It can smell blood and can smell fear, as well, and it absolutely thrives on that blood and fear. It's not as easy to kill as it may seem to be.
The fog also changes shape. It can shift into shapes, can trick people into thinking something is there when it...may or may not be. It can block everything you can see, and can make you think the monster is nearby even if it isn't.

This fog can shift into different things, an one second there's nothing, then there's a giant fogropolopian monster.

Charlotte gasped as she finally stopped running, leaning against the outside of a cave that looked cold and dark inside. She didn’t need it yet, but maybe she’d need it soon. She sat down and opened the backpack to see what she got.

After the hot desert, the fog and cold air was definitely a change as Hazelle jogged into the cave. She still had her bow out, nocked with an arrow. And everything else was in her bag on her back. 'Maybe I'll find some water here' she thought to herself as she inched into the fog more.
Hazelle saw a figure in the fog and quickly shot her loaded arrow at it. And after a few seconds, she heard a thump. She used her senses to quietly go over to the figure, and it turned out to be a tribute. The male tribute from five to be exact, Ren Rider. She looked over him, trying to find anything useful, but when she didn't find anything good, she left him, with a soft prayer and continued on into the fog.

((Oh sorry I didn’t process this haha))

Charlotte gasped and gathered her stuff up and slid behind a wall, watching the girl go into the save. She certainly wasn’t planning to follow her in. Not with her weapon, even as Charlotte had her own spear.

((It's fine XD I was editing my post to be longer anyways!))

Hazelle froze when she heard a very human like gasp somewhere around her. Probably either behind her or off to one of her front sides, she figured out. Quickly, she nocked another arrow onto her bow, "Hello?" she called out, her voice slightly echoing. Whoever it was, she would rather them not be willing to fight her, she was tired and still pretty thirsty. As well as hungry. She wouldn't even try to kill them, unless they fought her first.

((Okay!))

Charlotte stepped out, hands up in surrender. “Don’t shoot! Please.” She couldn’t keep the fear from her voice. “I-I don’t want to kill you. Or anyone. I just wanted to see what I had with me.”

Hazelle actually laughed, "You're the girl from District 11 right? The one that volunteered for, who was it, a siblings? Maybe a cousin?" She pushed for an answer as she lowered her bow slightly. She was ready to lower it all the way, but she didn't know if she could trust the other girl, "That volunteering stuff takes guts, I'll give you that" as she spoke, a faint Capital like accent was recognizable. She never said she wouldn't be killing the girl, but she slowly unloaded the arrow but she left it hanging in place on the bow.

“Why—why are you laughing?” She demanded quietly, disliking that. “And yes, my cousin.” Her grip on her spear tightened. “She’s only twelve. That’s wrong.” She narrowed her eyes at the accent but said nothing, her eyes darting to and landing on the other tribute’s weapons. She licked dry lips and took a deep breath. “What—did you volunteer too?”

After a quick few seconds, Hazelle stopped laughing. "You didn't see my reaping video?" She asked, slightly puzzled. "Well no, I didn't even get the chance to volunteer. Apparently, the President picked me out by themselves" She said with a whisper, scared that there were microphones nearby. Anyone could tell she was annoyed though. "That's pretty young. I think we have a tribute here in these Games whose the same age. I forget her name though. But I would have done the same thing, the Games are wrong" She said, her voice going slightly louder. "Also, I recommend that you either drop your weapons or lighten your grip on them" Hazelle stated with tone of warning.

"I...don't like looking at the reaping videos," Charlotte admitted quietly. "They're all so sad. Or sick. One of the two. No alternative." She stared at the girl in shock. The President had picked her out? That was--that must have been absolutely horrific. She swallowed hard. "Wh-why did he pick you?" She asked, and then a shiver of fear slid down her spine when the girl spoke about dropping the weapon or loosening her grip on it. She could read between the lines, and while her heart was pounding, she wasn't about to comply. "No," she stated firmly. "I can use a spear, I'm skilled at it." She winced at the mention of the twelve year old in the Games. "Yeah. Kenna," she murmured.

message 13: by mel (new)

mel (melthemuse)

Hazelle nodded her head, understanding that the videos were hard to watch. "Oh you know, for old times sake" She started sarcastically before continuing on, "My mother and father were rather close to the President, before my mother tried to end the Hunger Games by killing the President. She never got that far though, she was shot down by Peacekeepers. So, the President decided to make me get pick for my District's Reaping" She finished bitterly. The girl didn't add that her mother was a Gamemaker and she didn't add anything else about the matter. "Really now?" Hazelle challenged, "I'm sure you are very talented. But, I've taken down two tributes so far and I'm perfectly able to kill you too. Don't make me" At the last part, her voice got slightly softer, almost begging the other girl to not try to attack her. "Oh right, yes Kenna. I'd like to meet her before, ya know. One of us dies. I want to talk to her" It sounded worse than she wanted it too. But all she wanted to say to Kenna was that it'd be okay. Even if the younger girl died, she'd be going to a better place with nobody trying to stab you in the back.

She rolled her eyes at that, and then gaped when she mentioned her mom had tried to kill the President. A thought of I wish she'd succeeded, flew through her mind, but she didn't say it aloud. "Coming from him, I guess that makes sense,: Charlotte managed to say, and then nodded. "I wasn't going to attack you," she said quietly, hiding how her hands shook. "B-but I was saying that if you do attack me, I will fight b-back," she stammered, lifting her chin best she could and taking in a deep breath. "Talk to her? About what? How you're sorry for her before you kill her?" She asked quietly.

"Yeah I guess I can see where he was coming from, but still. At least he didn't kill my dad, I have that to thank him for" Hazelle said with a quick shrug. "Though, I'd never really thank him. I'd murder him first" She said bluntly. Of course, she'd probably die in these Games before she ever had the chance, "Sure. I guess I'll believe you. Since we've been talking for what? Ten minutes? And neither of us have made a move to harm the other" She commented. "What? No!" She burst out, surprised. "I just want to tell that it will be okay, I can only imagine what it's been like for her, being in the games so young" Hazelle started, "Honestly, as much as I don't want Kenna to die. I kind of hope she does. Because if she wins, multiple people in the Capital will just want her as a toy for them to play with. Or she'd become a show doll for the Peacekeepers in the Districts. Even worse, if she wins, her family would be endanger since every little thing she does or will do, affects them" She comments quickly.

"Yeah, I'm glad you still have your dad," Charlotte answered honestly. "But I'm sorry you were pulled into something so horrible for something you had no hand in," she murmured quietly. At the blunt admission of the fact she'd kill him first, Charlotte blinked her wide, dark brown eyes. "I-I'm sure many would like to," she risked whispering. And the thing was, she didn't like death or murder, but it wasn't like she'd complain if the President died if it meant saving 23 children per year, and so many more people considering the number of families the Games ruined annually. She nodded and relaxed a little, but not completely. "Yes. Something like that. Maybe we could be allies?" She asked, somewhat shyly, her heart thudding in her chest as she took a deep breath. "And...well, why tell her it'll be okay when it may not be? Yes, that's true, about her being a doll for the capital, she's...too young for that corruption," the girl agreed. Still, she didn't want Kenna to die. It was a sad thought. But...she shivered. "Yeah. I mean, her family may be imp[acted, you're right. Last year, I heard that they didn't let the victor even go home after what she said during her interview. I heard she's locked in the Victor's Village and only allowed to see family, like, twice a year. Because she mouthed off and lost her temper onstage after the Games. That's what one of the tributes from 12 told me this year."

message 21: by mel (new)

mel (melthemuse)

"Yeah I'm glad too, thank you" Hazelle said with a soft voice before adding, "It's alright, it isn't your fault. Plus I can kind of see where the President is coming from." Well, she did understand why he did such a thing but that didn't mean she had to like it. "More like half of the population would" She spoke freely now, she wasn't really worried about dying, since the Games would probably kill her anyways. There was a very little chance she'd go back home. "I'm fine with us being allies, I feel like I can trust you. Plus, we'd both survive longer if we stick together" Hazelle answered with a nod, confident in her answer. "Because. If she dies, she'll go to the sky and she'll definitely become a star. There, she'll have the chance to either leave her life above, where there isn't any corruption or she could decided to rebirth. If she ends up living, meaning she'd get through the Games, every year she'd have to relive what she went through here. And I don't want that for her" She said as a few tears ran down her face, though she quickly wiped them away. "Oh. I didn't hear about that. I mean, I saw part of the interview but the TVs cut out in my District because people were starting to riot and the Peacekeepers had to calm down the situation. I'm surprised I'm not dead honestly, I don't know if you heard what I said during my interview, but it was just as bad" Hazelle commented before putting her hand in front of herself, her bow was moved to her back, "Allies. I really hope you get through this." She talked as if she already knew she was dead.

“You’re welcome. And I know it’s not, but…the whole thing is really messed up,” Charlotte murmured quietly as she brushed some of her dark brown hair away from her eyes. She sighed. “I agree. That way maybe we can at least make it closer to the end,” she bummed quietly, tapping her fingers on her spear in anxious thought. “I hope we can make good allies and that we don’t run into too many others. It would be nice to just hide until this is all over,” she said with a wistful laugh that clearly held no hope for that ever happening. Besides, then she’d have to kill Hazelle, or Hazelle would have to kill her, and she’d rather not have it have to come to that. Charlotte smiled a little when Hazelle mentioned the star. “I like that,” she whispered. “There’s something soothing about it, and that’s a really good point. This experience has got to be traumatizing for victors.” She gasped when she saw the other girl crying a little, and suddenly Charlotte was determined that Hazelle had to make it through alive. She had to. She’d been through too much already. “I’ll help you,” she found herself saying. “And…yeah. That makes sense, some rioted in our district, too. They had to sedate her and put her in handcuffs before dragging her offstage,” she murmured, wincing as she recalled it as if it was yesterday. “I…remember that. You and I think 12 mouthed off a little bit.” She smiled slightly. “I just hope it didn’t get you or your family into more trouble. I agree with you though, and you’re brave,” she added, and took the girl’s hand. “Yes. Allies. And…no,” she murmured quietly, already deciding. “I’ll helping you get through this. You won’t die.”

"Yeah it is, sometimes I just wish the Districts would completely rebel against the Capital. I mean, we have a larger popularity anyways. Though I doubt the Career Districts would join in with the rest" As Hazelle said this, she felt like she had a pain in her heart. Sure, a lot of the Capital was bad. But there were people and children who where under the Presidents mind control, and they didn't even know what they were doing was wrong. "I'm sure we will. In a minute we could look over our supplies? I was able to grab a few things." She didn't grab much, but she was able to at least get a backpack. "Thanks. My parents always told me that. And I do another 'tradition' my parents always liked. When I, well kill someone, I always either whisper a quick prayer out loud for them to be able to go to the stars or I pray for them later" Hazelle explained, her voice cracking a bit here and there. "And I'll help you" She quickly said, "Oh wow. That's rough, sedatives aren't ever good" She winced too, she hated sedatives. "12 mouthed off to? I didn't even know, my mentor dragged me back to my floor to yell at me. Thank you though, I didn't really feel brave to be honest. Just.. mad" Hazelle paused for a second before softly adding, "They couldn't hurt my family even more if they tried. My mother is gone and my father is lost in his own head. He barely even remembers me. Plus I have no siblings" When Charlotte took her hand, she gently squeezed it with another batch of tears in her eyes as she laughed. The laugh wasn't out of happiness, it almost sounded broken or insane, "I'll do everything I can to help you win. Even if that mean ending myself. I know you can make a difference. But please, I know I'm going to die, the Capital will insist that I do. If I don't, the President wouldn't stop to get to me" She paused again as she rubbed her thumb over the other girls hand. "He wouldn't let me out of the arena" Hazelle finished with a quiet whimper.

Charlotte nodded. "I do, too," she whispered. "I mean, again, sending kids, innocent kids, to die in an arena is absolutely horrific," she murmured quietly. "And it's so wrong. Yeah, we can do a supply count, I have a backpack." She gestured to the one slung over her back that she'd quickly pushed everything into when she thought Hazelle was about to kill or attack her. Charlotte's warm brown eyes widened when Hazelle mentioned that tradition, and she gaped. "I...that's...you're so good," she whispered, voice almost cracking. "So much humanity, that's...I admire you for keeping it, for honoring lives nobody ever will again," she whispered, placing a hand on Hazelle's shoulder and gently squeezing. "I know, it didn't look good, and...yeah she did. I think she was mad as well, and in all fairness it makes sense why you were so--are so--angry. This is all so messed up," the brunette whispered with an agreement nod of her head, her short hair bouncing a little. At the girl's touch of her hand, Charlotte just felt...comforted and warm inside. Real human connection, kind human connection, it brought tears to her eyes and she took a deep breath. They were forming beauty in the wickedness, weren't they?Somehow? Maybe it was their own rebellion. "I'm sorry about your family," she whispered. "And the president will let you out because you will win," she finished in a determined voice. "You have to. Because you're going to show him up. I...don't know what I could do if I won. You, though...a force to be reckoned with."

Hazelle crocked her head, the fog making it harder for her to see the girl in front of her, but she didn't really think of it. "I know, it's truly terrible and it needs to be stopped" she said, her tone matching Charlotte's, "I have that red bag and a few other things. So, a small blanket, rope, dried fruit, a box of ten matches, some duct tape and a first aid kit. Then of course my bow and the arrows" She informed the other girl. She paused, tears running down her face down. She would wipe them, but she didn't want to let go of Charlotte's hand and plus, the fog was getting thicker now. "T-thank you" She mumbled, "I just don't want them to be forgotten, you know?" Hazelle noticed a flicker of movement, probably from the other girl's hair. "I'm actually not surprised 12 was so angry. I mean, the victor from last years Games was from 12 and she went through so much in the last Games. I know it is" She whispered as she chocked up on tears before answering, "It's okay, I'll find my mother again soon enough, and my father might get better, hopefully he doesn't remember I was reaped. It'd break his poor mind." The fog was starting to make it harder to breath, the humidity hurting her lungs. Hazelle laughed soft, giving in, "No no, I'm not going to win by myself. I can't just let you die, you'll win with me. Whether the President likes it o-" She voice cuts out as the image of Charlotte flickers. She blinked a few times but when she saw what she thought was the other girl reaching out to hug her, she relaxed a bit and she let 'Charlotte' hug her. And in doing so, Hazelle let go of the real Charlotte's hand. Once the fog reached her, she knew something was off. But by this point, the fog had engulfed them completely. Something was definitely wrong, "Charlotte!?" She called out, not knowing how far away the other girl was as she grabbed her bow from off of her back. She grabbed an arrow and slashed at the fake version of Charlotte, upset that she was tricked by the fog's games.

"Wh--Hazelle?" Came a choked voice. And confused. "What happened? Where are you?" She yelled through the thick fog. "That's not me!" She yelled as she watched in horror as a false version of her tried to grab at her new friend. There was so much she had to say to Hazelle in response to what she just said. Hazelle had to make it. Had to. She liked Hazelle, a lot, and now...Charlotte took a step closer, spear tight in her hand. "I'm here!" She yelled again, not wanting to admit how cold her hand was now that Hazelle had pulled away.

Hazelle, on the inside, was panicking. How was she supposed to fight something that wasn't real? But on the outside, she was calm and controlled as she continued to slash at the fog. "Charlotte, listen closely, please" She started, desperateness in her voice, "Do you think you could find your way out of the fog? We need to get out of here, I can hold if off and I'd meet up with you" She didn't really want to do this, but she didn't want Charlotte to get hurt and she didn't know how much longer she could actually hold off the fake monster. "There's a forest, go there and I'll be there as soon as I can" She spoke with neutral tone, as she hacked at the fog. "Or you could go to the Cornucopia. Either way I'd find you."

“But—“ She started to protest. “No! No, I can’t—won’t—leave you! Just follow my voice and get out of this, please!” She begged, unsure why tears were forming in her eyes. Was this a direct attack? On Hazelle? She didn’t know but right now all that mattered was that Hazelle got to live to see another day. She’d been through too much. Charlotte had volunteered to save a life, and that was that. She knew exactly what she was doing, she could have stayed out of it but chose not to. So she was prepared to die. Most others were reaped and didn’t choose to be here. In a way, Charlotte had. “Just follow my voice,” she begged again.

Hazelle stayed silent for several seconds, though it seemed like minutes, after Charlotte said to follow her voice. "How far away would you say you are from where we were?" Finally her voice rang out, while fighting the fog, she herself had moved a multiple feet away from their original spot. "If you can, grab your stuff and hold your spear. You might need it. And than, say my name until I find you. Once I find you, I'll grab your hand. If you feel anything other than me touching your hand. Run" The fog had grabbed Hazelle as she was talking out loud, it held onto her arm. She yelped and whipped an arrow at the fog, "Get off me you freak!" She said to the monster before making her voice softer to speak to Charlotte again, "Can you do that for me?"

"I...don't think I'm that far!" She called even louder as the fog thickened and Hazelle sounded even quieter. She nodded even though Hazelle couldn't see her. "I have the spear and my stuff, but...I can. I can do that. Okay. I have it. Hazelle, I'm over here," she called, and then repeated the other girl's name a few times as much as she could. She didn't know why she wanted this girl to be okay. Maybe because she was so kind. She was so warm and brave and in the Games, they needed to show the world that kindness and goodness could still exist somehow, in the midst of bloodlust. They were more than just pawns of the capital, and Charlotte maybe understood that now for the first time.

Hazelle didn't hear what Charlotte said at first, making her worried that something had happened to her, but she heard the second part, "Okay gre-" She started to call out to the other girl but the fog monster gripped her arms and tightly with both of it's 'arms', and it cut off what she was going to say as she cursed at the fog, trying to get free. What am I going to do? She thought as she managed to get free and she shouldered her bow to grab another arrow to duel wield them. The fog thickening made it harder for Hazelle to hear, but if she was quiet enough, she was able to hear Charlotte faintly calling her name. Slowly, she edged towards the other girl's voice, never looking away from the fog creature. Until finally she realized something, It doesn't want to get away, they sent if for me. It won't stop until I'm die her mind raced with thoughts and ideas. "Charlotte!" She screamed, she didn't know how well the other girl could hear her in all of this fog. "I think I'm closer to you, but I need you to get ready to run. This thing isn't going to let us leave easily." As she called out, her throat burned from lack of water and the fog. At the very least, Charlotte would be able to get away. Hazelle really didn't want her to get hurt and she wanted her to be okay. "Ready? I'm going to try and quickly distract it and I'll call out go when you need to start running. I promise I'll be close behind you."

"Okay! I have everything!" She yelled when she heard that. Charlotte planted herself in a position ready to push her foot from the ground and run. Sweat sat between her fingers and the spear from how tightly she was grabbing it and how terrifying this situation was. "I'm ready!" She called, her free hand out for Hazelle to grab. She'd tried to move a bit in the direction of the girl's voice while yelling at the top of her lungs to try and make sure they could find one another. Her heart thudded in her chest as she waited, all her muscles tense.

With a deep exhale, Hazelle slashed at the fog twice. With each swing, the fog moved back slightly and she made sure it stayed back. With a breath in, she put both arrows into her quiver, on her back, and turned around. Seconds went by as she sprinted towards Charlotte's fading voice, somewhere along the way, she bump harshly into a sharp rock and was gifted a large gash on her left leg. But she continued to run, finally she somewhat made out Charlotte's figure, "Go!" She shouted, ignoring the pain in her leg. It was burning but she couldn't think about that now. Hazelle grabbed onto Charlotte's free hand, "I'm here" She whispered.

All she needed was the hand in hers, and the whispered, 'I'm here', before she took off as fast as she possibly could. Charlotte wrapped Hazelle's hand in her own as she tore away from the cave, her shoes pounding on the ground and her heart thudding in her chest louder than she'd probably ever heard or felt it. She was heading towards the forest, having a feeling some of the other tributes were already at the cornucopia. Besides, didn't some careers tend to stockpile whatever was there, and lay camp at the location? She didn't know, but Hazelle had said forest first. And besides, that place had trees and more places hide should other tributes come wandering through. Even so, the fog was cold as it slithered after them, and Charlotte shivered as she ran. But no matter how cold she got and how parched she was--and never mind the fact she didn't know where to get water around here--she would not be letting go of Hazelle's hand.

The fog thickens and choked them. Separating them again. Now it was impossible to see and hear.

Charlotte's hand wrapped around her own made Hazelle forget about her pain. But the burning came rushing back faster than she could push it away. Every few minutes, when the pain was worse, she'd grip the other girl's hand firmer but not tight enough to hurt her. She refused to show weakness on the outside though, she was okay with letting Charlotte know she was hurting but the Capital had no right to know. "Where?" She croaked, her throat raw from shouting and from the fog. She just hoped the other girl understood the question. Though Hazelle assumed they were heading towards the forest. The Cornucopia probably didn't have any water, which they need terribly.
