Our current series will wrap up at the end of December, 2021, so I am going to open nominations for a series to begin January 1, 2022.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY
Rules for nominating a series:
1. The series must be complete (as far as we can reasonably tell).
2. The series must be fantasy (I know, seems obvious).
3. The series should not be targeted mainly for middle school or a YA audience.
4. The series must not be one the group has already read. Look through the website or the group bookshelf to see if we’ve read it before.
5. Each member may nominate one series. Please tell us the name of the series, the author, how many books are in the series, and the name of first book in the series. If you want to add more information, please feel free.
6. Each member may second one other nomination in addition to making their own nomination.
7. In order to move into the polling, a nomination must be seconded.
8. Nominations will be open through November 20. We will then have a poll. If there are a lot of nominations or the results are close, we will have a run-off poll between or among the top vote-getters.

Nominations are open! Let’s go!
Kathi, for the mods

Nominated and seconded:
Broken Earth (3 books) by N.K. Jemisin, starting with The Fifth Season

Lighthouse Duet (2 books) by Carol Berg, starting with Flesh and Spirit
Winter of the World (3 books) by Michael Scott Rohan, starting with The Anvil of Ice
(First) Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever (3 books) by Stephen R. Donaldson, starting with Lord Foul's Bane
Howl’s Moving Castle (3 books) by Diana Wynne Jones, starting with Howl’s Moving Castle

I will toss in a nomination that was the runner-up last time around: The Broken Earth series by N.K. Jemisin, 3 books starting with The Fifth Season. Jemisin is an author I’ve been meaning to read and this seems like a good place to start. The books’ blurbs make me think we could have some interesting discussions.

message 5: by Nachiket (new)

Nachiket | 19 comments I will second the Broken Earth series.

I will nominate The Green Bone Saga (3 books) by Fonda Lee, starting with Jade City.

Jakub (jnareb) | 12 comments I'll second The Riddle Master trilogy.

Michelle (michellehartline) | 136 comments Unless I am misunderstanding something, I don't think Carol Berg's Lighthouse Duet is on the bookshelf. Please correct me if I'm wrong! If it isn't, then I would like to nominate this two book series, which starts with Flesh and Spirit.

Michelle, since Jakob seconded Riddle-Master a minute before you did, you can use your second for a different series, if you’d like.

Kevin | 64 comments I will second The Green Bone Saga (3 books) by Fonda Lee, starting with Jade City.

Only a few more days for nominations and seconds! What’s on your shelf that is calling out to be read or reread?

Katy (kathy_h) | 207 comments I'll nominate The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever Series

I nominate The First Chronicles with three books starting with Lord Foul's Bane by Stephen R. Donaldson

The Series does continue with The Second Chronicles and The Last Chronicles if we wanted to do a 10 book series.

This is close to being in conflict with guideline #3: The series should not be targeted mainly for middle school or a YA audience, but I will allow it since most Goodreads readers have it shelved first as “fantasy” and second as “YA”.

message 20: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 136 comments I was going to use my reserved second for Howl, but I guess I'll hold onto it ;)

message 21: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (michellehartline) | 136 comments I think it's broader than YA, kind of like Megan Whalen Turner's The Thief.

Well, our final poll ended in a tie, so we will read both series.
We will read Broken Earth first, since it “won” the preliminary poll, followed by Green Bone.

Here is the schedule:

Broken Earth trilogy by N.K. Jemisin
January 2022: The Fifth Season
February 2022: The Obelisk Gate
March 2022: The Stone Sky

Green Bone trilogy by Fonda Lee
April 2022: Jade City
May 2022: Jade War
June 2022: Jade Legacy

Thanks to everyone who nominated, seconded, and voted!
