iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments Blade~Corynth asked "Is it okay for someone to hide their religion? And if they couldn't wear a hijab could they just do their best to dress modestly?"
What do you think?

message 2: by iamaunicornwithyellowfeet, Milksheikh (new)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments So, in my opinion, whether or not you wear a hijab isn't the be all and end all. There are lot of other components of Islam that are more important, such as Salah/prayer. Especially today, a lot of people choose not to wear the hijab, and their reasons are understandable. For example, they may not feel ready to wear it, and nobody should be forced to wear it if they don't feel comfortable. Or, they may, as you asked in the question, be trying to hide their religion. A reason for this may be because they don't want to face extra harassment and attention in public, which is quite understandable.

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments Hijab isn't just the head covering, it also refers to modesty, so technically even men have a form of hijab. They must cover from their navel to knee.

With women, I think that what counts is that they at least attempt to wear modest clothing, even if they don't want to wear the hijab.

The Lost Heroine (hiatus) (thelostheroine) | 127 comments Hey Blade!!
I wrote a blog post on hijab a while back, it explains the what when why how and who
Go to
Mochasandmadness.wordpress.com
Go to the Islamic misconceptions page and it’s the top post
Sorry I can’t link it because Wordpress doesn’t work on my ancient iPod 😒

Aazra (Ginormous hiatus) (aazra_reads) | 36 comments Islam isn't just about the hijab. There are a lot of other things you should focus on before the hijab like prayer/salah. In my opinion, no one should be forced to wear the hijab. If they have established the five pillers of Islam and then only should their concern be to wear the hijab or to not. Moreover, the hijab is an identity for most of us. As our religion plays a huge part in our life and identity, we are more than proud to display it. It's like an indication that 'she's a muslim woman'. But that being said, many people might not feel like they are ready to make a change in their attire just after they convert or even if they have been muslim for a long time. In the end, its mostly our deeds that make us a Muslim and those things should be our focus first.

A key point I would like everyone to remember is that:
Hijabi=muslim
Non hijabi, also= muslim

There will be people who disagree with this but this is just my opinion.

I love it! You've have summed it up perfectly. I think people who think that hijab is 'oppression' need to read it.

maryam مريم (raindropsandastorm) | 119 comments I think most Muslims don't really hide their religious identity. But if they are in a non-Muslim community and feel uncomfortable they might. Of course, it's not like obligatory to reveal your religious identity if you're a Muslim. I personally don't hide my religion because I feel proud to say that I am a Muslim.

maryam مريم (raindropsandastorm) | 119 comments And hijab! Hijab is really misunderstood by this 'progressive' world. I don't know how people who think they are 'progressive' could have misconceptions about a piece of clothing.

And Islam doesn't equalise hijab. Islam is far bigger than that. The five pillars of Islam are shahadha (belief), salah (prayer), zakat (charity), saum (fasting) and hajj (pilgrimage to makkah). So there isn't hijab among the main five components of Islam. But both men and women are told to observe hijab. In Islam modesty is something encouraged so we Muslims try our best.

Yup, freedom to choose what you want to wear but wait! It's not socially normal so you can't! We're obviously protecting your freedom

message 11: by iamaunicornwithyellowfeet, Milksheikh (new)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments yes! the hijab is so misunderstood, i've seen so-called feminists say that it's oppressive - if they really did their research they would find out that it was first introduced as a way for women to not get sexually assaulted when they would leave the city at night to 'use the toilet'

For them freedom equals anything that is socially normal. So, who actually is pressured by another group of people? Freedom is misinterpreted by many.

no problem!
haha yes, i can imagine

message 15: by iamaunicornwithyellowfeet, Milksheikh (new)

iamaunicornwithyellowfeet (bookobsessedblob) | 567 comments Another point to add - many Muslims who have reverted may hide their religion, due to fear of backlash from their parents or family. There have even been cases where people have had to pray in bathrooms, which of course, isn't allowed, just so that their families won't see them. It's quite horrible when you think about it, that these people have to go to some extents to be accepted by their families.

Yess omg
Ive heard many say this is just oppression
I mean feminism at its core is abt a woman and her choice
So if it is her choice...then its literally none of ur buisness
She can choose to cover herself up fully or wear the opposite

I feel like with rhys u could hate on him 4 what he did to feyre in acotar but then in acomaf he explains why he did what he had to do, the same can be said with tamlin like yes u can hate but if u think abt he was just protecting feyre even if it was over protectiveness and also feyre isn't the only one who suffered at amarantha's hands. Then u could also hate rhys 4 nesta's book (acosf) where me mistreats nesta 4 what she did to feyre but then again nesta had her reasons and rhsy didnt respect that
