Rachel (rachelkisley) | 7 comments I am reviewing my first ever Netgalley book, but I can't find the book on Goodreads at all to track completion or leave my review. Does anyone know what I need to do? I've searched author name and book title but it's just not here.

Rosh ~catching up slowly~ (roshreviews) | 324 comments You can wait a few days and see. Sometimes, if the publishing date is in the distant future, the book isn't available on GR. Alternatively, you can add the book yourself using the correct details from the NetGalley and Amazon pages. This can be done only on the desktop site and not through the app.

I am a Goodreads librarian. Let me know the NetGalley link and I'll add it.

It should be there now Rachel. 😘👍

Diane Dachota (dianedachota) | 3 comments I notice lately that after I post a review on NetGalley it says it cannot post the review on Goodreads. It used to happen once in awhile but now it happens with almost every book. It's not a huge deal but because my computer clipboard won't erase anything without restarting my computer, it takes much longer to copy and paste each time. Is there any kind of fix for this? Note: these are all books that are already on Goodreads.

That's a huge challenge, Diane. I wish I could tell you what's wrong and how to fix it, but just having to restart every time you need to cut and paste makes reviewing cumbersome, since you need to be able to paste all those links. Have you tried to get it repaired?
I never let NG repost my reviews because of security concerns. It's a bit risky, so I can't help with that, although if you go to the NG help desk, you might get some good instructions. They're slow, but they generally come through.

Donna, what are the security risks? I've never used the post on Goodreads option at NetGalley, because I write or post the review first at Goodreads, so it is already there.

Diane, can you elaborate on what your computer is doing when you copy and paste? I don't quite understand.

from a security perspective, linking accounts like GR and netgalley etc allow for someone if they were to get into your account lateral movement between different sites - more credentials to harvest (or even worse, find more sites that you use the same password on etc). Because GR can link to kindle, which can get to amazon etc.

I always recommend segmenting accounts to the best ability possible and use different random passwords to log in - all my passwords are randomly generated with 16+ characters

Thank you so much, Dee! I didn't respond, because I have no specific idea how these things work. But my husband and son are both in the IT field, and they both told me not to *ever* do that, so I don't!

Dee (austhokie) | 55 comments i teach a basic information and cyber course for senior military officers/government leaders and one of their assignments is to do a doxxing assessment of themself. i.e. if someone were to google them on social media what would they find and how could it be used again them - its always enlightening

Diane Dachota (dianedachota) | 3 comments My problem is that usually clipboards only retain a copied item until it is pasted. My clipboard will keep pasting the same thing unless I restart my laptop. NetGalley has the option to post your review right to Goodreads which is helpful to me because it bypasses this issue. I have done this successfully for years but lately I get an error message on NetGalley saying it can’t post on Goodreads. I don’t think there is anything I can do to ‘repair’ my laptop since it is working fine, it is just a quirk of Apple MacBook. Thanks for the advice.

Dee (austhokie) | 55 comments i just write mine in a word document - then its saved and you have it for future. you should be also able to go in and remove everything from a clipboard - there should be a clear option (or there used to be at least)

Diane Dachota (dianedachota) | 3 comments Thanks, there is a clear option but it doesn’t work. It’s not a huge issue but I wonder what is going on with NetGalley since it offers the option to check the box for Goodreads but then sends error messages. I’m fine if that option works.
