For this year's top 3 faves, I'm picking those that aren't by my obvious favorite authors. Those knocked it outta the park, again, as usual. Instead, I've chosen these three books for different reasons - noted below. Thanks to those who recommended these and other books! :)

1. Death's Dancer was recommended to me by kittykat. Initially, when I read the blurb, I thought it wouldn't be my cuppa. I'm not a dancer, got no skills in that regard, but figured I'd give it a shot. I'm so happy I did b/c it's a unique story about necromancers, their power and those who dance for them. (✮✮✮✮½)
2. Rules of Redemption was the first book I'd read by T.A. White. This was recommended to me by Sandra and it reminded me why I should include more sci-fi novels to my TBR list. I binged the trilogy in a week and loved it! (✮✮✮✮½)
3. Family and Honor made the list because it's the book that brought me back to what is now a favorite, must-read series. I liked book 1, but the series dropped off my radar for almost a year before I picked up book 2 for a second go. If you like werecats, I recommend this series. I'm loving the character growth. (✮✮✮✮½)

Steph, I'm so glad you read it and enjoyed it so much! Have you read on in the trilogy yet?
Personally, I'm utterly incapable of choosing just three favs of the year - especially as I think I may have few more to come. Also, my 'real' (ie full-length series binging, not just the light and fluffy novellas I'm so fond of!) SFF reading has been severely lacking this year!

1. Blood Heir by Ilona Andrews
Why? Because its House Andrews and what can I say? I'm a member of their BDH (Book Devouring Horde)... And its in the Kate Universe, so I'm happy we get more Derek & Julie.

2. Million Dollar Demon by Kim Harrison
Why? Love being back in The Hollows and it was really depressing when I lived in a world were this series was finished... Then it wasn't! Yay!!

3. Breaking Badger by Shelly Laurenston
Why? Where else can you find humor and lol moments when a crazy mix of shifters are beating the crap out of bad guys, shifters, etc. Its so wrong, but just too darn funny to care.
Honorable Mention - Not paranormal or fangy... But Darynda Jones still can write a good story. It has all the feels of her Charlie Davidson series, but... its not. But a good mystery read, FYI.

No, but I have the (I think it's the) prequel

I have all of Laurenston's Honey Badgers TBR. I keep meaning to move that up on my list or re-add to my kindle since it keeps getting buried. Many have recommended it to me.

:) I just knew someone would list some of my other faves, thanks, Lis! I really enjoyed both of those (1-2), too! And, yep, another rec for Badgers :D Thanks for the rec for Darynda's other series, I've got that to start.

Yes, I read them back to back (which is what I generally do the majority of the time) and all three were 5 stars for me. Haven't read the prequel yet as I'm waiting until the series/trilogy is complete. I did go to her website and red the freebies too though, I always really appreciate when authors do that.
As for my beloved Honey Badgers... TBH most of the reasons why many people don't like them are all the reasons that I LOVE them with a passion - including the lack of romance and I say that as a lover of the romance genre! The first three IMO should be read back to back as even though each one has a different sister as the main POV, they are actually three parts of a whole story rather than three separate stories. READ THEM🤣🤣🤣.

Okay, okay - sheesh! J/K 😏 I'll read them!

ETA: Actually, once we've completed our "2021 favorites for our 2022 banner" list, I'll use those plus the books listed here to create a poll for our members' 2021 favorite.

So, let's vote for our favorites. I'll gather the nominations listed and put them into a poll for us to vote on SOS members' favorites of 2021.
Let's set the limit for nominations to 3 per member. I know that's gonna be difficult, but I've no doubt someone else will most likely nominated your 4th, 5th and 6th favorites. :)
