Sara Jesus (scjesus) | 143 comments This is the book for cat lovers.I have five cats, so my love for these beautiful cats is more than evident. However, the book doesn't just portray the life of a cat. Through a trip through Japan between Nana and her owner, there are reunions of old friendships and important remembered moments.

Nana recalls with humor and affection the moments lived with her owner. Even though he initially resisted becoming a domestic cat , he gradually lets himself be conquered and learns to love him. An emotional book about the importance of the bonds we establish throughout life.

Laurie | 652 comments I read this book exactly two years ago. I found it a wonderful story because the cat was endearing but so were the human characters. If I remember correctly, all of the friends wanted to keep the cat to help Satoru out, but they couldn't for one reason or another. It really is a sweet story of love and the importance of relationships.

Damini I'm so glad to see this thread - this is the next book I've planned on reading! Would love to hop in here and read everyone's thoughts.

K (billielitetiger) I thought it was a refreshing book about loyalty and friendships. The relationships were based on respect and caring and not so much on blood ties.It was somewhat a "feel good" book though the ending was not happy----- but that kept it real. Having the cat narrate parts was great. OK, I confess; I had a tuxedo cat that traveled with me on 3 continents! She even had an EU passport.

Damini Finished this a couple days ago. Bawled like a baby. It's such a beautiful and wholesome read!

Nike | 117 comments I'll join you soon! I'm (as always) behind in my TBR - schedule but since I actually was the one who nominated this book from the beginning it's kind of embarrassing that I haven't started to read it yet. I'll do. Soon. I promise!

Lisa Bianca (lisabianca) | 4 comments Hello, I'm really glad that this was suggested for the monthly read as I just adored this little book, I normally don't select books with animal narrators but it was done in a way that seemed just right, for a cat.
The book took me on a little journey too, from bemused slight interest to increasing fondness and on to tears and laughter.
I think it was a good thing I hadn't read the description or that many reviews before hand so as the story evolved it was unexpected.

I have finally read it and I finished it last night. I agree with you on the experience of the book, from a slight interest during the first two thirds of the book wondering what all the fuss around this book was about to really starting to like it and finally loving it and crying and laughing! Such a beautiful story of life and death and meaning and happiness. <3

Sasa | 2 comments Really nice book, cats and traveling :) I like how part of the book is written from the cat's perspective and I also like the description of the Japanese landscape.
All characters are also interesting, everyone is a little different, but everyone is unique.

Misty | 24 comments Behind on this conversation, but I absolutely loved this book. It was sweet, cute, and heartbreaking. I was literally bawling at the end! I wasn't sure what I would think about the cat's perspective at first, but I ended up really liking it.
