Lore Olympus Volume One (Lore Olympus, #1) by Rachel Smythe
Title: Lore Olympus: Volume One
Author: Rachel Smythe
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 1st
Comments: This was a nice way to start out the year. The artwork was wonderful and I always love a good Greek mythology retelling.
Prompt: 🅰17. A book from NPR's Book Concierge.

Holiday Wishes (Heartbreaker Bay, #4.5) by Jill Shalvis
Title: Holiday Wishes
Author: Jill Shalvis
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 2nd
Comments: I have now read all the stories in this series. Shalvis has better series, so I probably wont reread these, but they are fun for what they are.
Prompt: 🅰24. A book related to inclement weather.

Deadly Class, Volume 10 Save Your Generation by Rick Remender
Title: Deadly Class, Volume 10: Save Your Generation
Author: Rick Remender
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ (2.75 really. I rounded up)
Date read: Jan. 2nd
Comments: The last book ended on a cliffhanger and yet this book jumped ahead and didn't tell what happened until almost the end of the book, and then it told what happened in passing. Plus I was going to use this for my set in the 80's prompt, and yet it turned out it was mostly set in the 90's and even 2001. All in all, very disappointing.
Prompt: 🎴13-Death 🎴20-Judgement (consequences, self-reflection)

Where the Drowned Girls Go (Wayward Children, #7) by Seanan McGuire
Title: Where the Drowned Girls Go
Author: Seanan McGuire
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 4th
Comments: I was a little disappointed by the last book in the series, but this was back to being top notch. Thanks to Overdrive, I was able to read it the same day it was published.
Prompt: 🅰19. A book that involves alternate reality, alternate worlds, or alternate history.
🍧27. A Hugo Award winner.

Forbidden Wife The Life and Trials of Lady Augusta Murray by Julia Abel Smith
Title: Forbidden Wife: The Life and Trials of Lady Augusta Murray
Author: Julia Abel Smith
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 8th
Comments: I do have a weakness for books about British royalty. This spent too much time (aka ANY time) listing what was spent. Just because the main source of information was a basically a checkbook, doesn't mean I need to know how much someone paid for a hat.
Prompt: 🅰1. A book with a main character whose name starts with A, T, or Y.

Obit by Victoria Chang
Title: Obit
Author: Victoria Chang
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 10th
Comments: 3 out of 4 of the sections were amazing. They had me in tears and just were so moving. Section 2 on the other hand was not my thing.
Prompt: 🍧10. An Anisfield-Wolf Book Award winner.

Mãn by Kim Thúy
Title: Mãn
Author: Kim Thúy
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 12th
Comments: I was underwhelmed by VI so I debated even reading this one, but I'm so glad I did. It was everything I wished Vi had been.
Prompt: 🍧14. A book with cutlery on the cover or in the title.

Born to Be Awkward Celebrating Those Imperfect Moments of Babyhood by Mike Bender

Comments: The cat in the frying pan might be my fav.
Prompt: NA

Probably Ruby by Lisa Bird-Wilson
Title: Probably Ruby
Author: Lisa Bird-Wilson
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 17th
Comments: I liked the The Red Files and when I realized she had a regular book, I added it to my maybe list and then it was sitting in a display at he library when I went so I ended up reading it right away. It was hard to get into a first, but eventually the way the stories all wove together really worked.
Prompt: 🅰54. A book by an indigenous author. (I added 2 extra prompts)

Here's to Us (What If It's Us, #2) by Becky Albertalli
Title: Here's to Us
Author: Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 17th
Comments: I struggled with the first half where they were introducing wonderful characters that you just knew were going to get hurt, but he last half went by like a breeze and was so cute and fun.
Prompt: 🍧48. A book with two POVs.

Fakes, Frauds, and Flimflammery Even More of the World's Most Outrageous Scams by Andreas Schroeder
Title: Fakes, Frauds, and Flimflammery: Even More of the World's Most Outrageous Scams
Author: Andreas Schroeder
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 18th
Comments: So picked up 2 of these books at a garage sale, read hem and loved them, then went looking for the third. Bu when I finally found it, I never got around to reading it. Last year I decide to fix that, but I couldn't remember which one was the one I hadn't read. So now after 2 (wrong) guesses, I now know which one I haven't read yet.😋
Prompt: ♻️14. A book with fewer than 5000 ratings on Goodreads. (There are only 17.)

Where Hope Comes From Poems of Resilience, Healing and Light by Nikita Gill
Title: Where Hope Comes From: Poems of Resilience, Healing and Light
Author: Nikita Gill
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 19th
Comments: This kinda wrecked me. It was so good, but still it was a little too emotional for me to give it a 5.
Prompt: 🅰6. A book with an image of a source of light on the cover.

Empire of Pain The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty by Patrick Radden Keefe
Title: Empire of Pain: The Secret History of the Sackler Dynasty
Author: Patrick Radden Keefe
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐ ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Jan. 21st
Comments: I liked Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland which was by the same author. This was definitely maddening given the subject matter. It was well written and I enjoyed it, but it wasn't anything super special. Comments: I got this for the read-a-thon, but I didn't get to it in time. I ended up enjoying it, even though none of the stories really had a plot - they were just snippets out of someone's life. I normally can't stand that, but Lisa Bird-Wilson writing just hooks me in. Even the one told in second person wasn't that bad.

Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell
Title: Winter's Orbit
Author: Everina Maxwell
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Mar. 6th
Comments: I saw this on the best books of the month thread and added it to my list. Then the book started following me and popping up in my feeds and all over the place. So when I went to the library and it was just sitting there, I couldn't resist. And then I couldn't wait to finish my other books before I started it. It was so good. There's a good chance that it'll be my pick for best book of March. But it's too early in the year to complete the best book of the month prompt.
Prompt: 🍧32. A book with a quote from your favorite author on the cover or Amazon page. (Martha Wells)

The True Story of the Great Escape Stalag Luft III, March 1944 by Jonathan F. Vance
Title: The True Story of the Great Escape: Stalag Luft III, March 1944
Author: Jonathan F. Vance
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Mar. 7th
Comments: 76 POWs managed to escape and there were another 20 or so that played a major role in the plan, but stayed behind, and the author thought they were all important, which is good, but it meant the first 2/3 of the book was a series of mini biographies concluding with the mission that resulted in the guys capture. It was spaced out and woven through the story, but it still made it a bit of a slog and the names started to run together. But once it got to the actual escape and aftermath, I couldn't put the book down.
Prompt: 🅰20. A nonfiction book that is set during 1900 -1951.
🅰26. 2 books with the same word in the title - Book 1. (I realized I was reading 2 books back to back that both had 'True Story' in the title)

Mr. Popper's Penguins by Richard Atwater
Title: Mr. Popper's Penguins
Author: Richard Atwater & Florence Atwater
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Mar. 8th
Comments: I had this out because my Mom wanted to borrow it, and then my Dad had a major health crisis and I needed a comfort read that didn't require much concentration. Sweet, but very dated.
Prompt: ♻️31. A book published at least 10 years ago.

The Nine The True Story of a Band of Women Who Survived the Worst of Nazi Germany by Gwen Strauss
Title: The Nine: The True Story of a Band of Women Who Survived the Worst of Nazi Germany
Author: Gwen Strauss
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐
Date read: Mar. 8th
Comments: It was a accident of library holds that led me to read this almost back to back with The True Story of the Great Escape: Stalag Luft III, March 1944. It was interesting to pair them. This one had a cheat sheet with all the names (with only 9 it was easier) which helped keep things straight, and it was a more even read, but it didn't have the tension of the other one.
Prompt: 🅰27. 2 books with the same word in the title - Book 2.

The Emma Project (The Rajes, #4) by Sonali Dev
Title: The Emma Project
Author: Sonali Dev
Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Date read: June 7th
Comments: I've been waiting for this since I read the last one, but it still took me a while to get through. For contemporary romances, these books tackle some pretty tough subjects which makes them slower reads for me. I also was a little disappointed that this one wasn't a closed door romance. (I don't object to sex scenes, but sometimes authors use them to cover up deficiencies in the story. Or as a lazy way to show the characters falling in love) And while this was still good enough to rate a 4, I do feel like it was a bit lazy in the middle. The way it translated Emma to a modern setting were brilliant though.
