At school our teacher read to the class from a fantasy book I remember the book fondly but don’t know the title and haven’t come across it yet. It would be around 1984 give or take, the book had a fantasy tone with a wizard hiding out in a wood, which I think was on a hill. English, possibly puffin books. I’m thinking along the lines of Lloyd Alexander, Susan Cooper? Any suggestions welcomed in my quest to find and read, possible young adult fantasy.

"When Colin and Susan are pursued by eerie creatures across Alderley Edge, they are saved by the Wizard. He takes them into the caves of Fundindelve, where he watches over the enchanted sleep of one hundred and forty knights."

Jeff Goostrey | 3 comments I’ve read both TH White and Alan Garner, I don’t think so but only really remember the hiding in the wood, and seem to remember the wizard being alone. May have been Mary Stewart where Merlin is alone. If anyone can think of other books around at the time let me know.
