I really like the title of the novel. I'm having a hard time verbalizing why, but in a nutshell: using the infinitive form really emphasizes the intensity of the last few hundred pages, and the EXPERIENCE of riding. Anything else would have created a very different meaning. E.g. if Robert Silverberg had titled his novel "To Die Inside" instead of Dying Inside, it would have a completely different resonance.

So, a related question: can anyone think of other books with infinitives in the title? The only one I could come up with is the brilliant SF novel To Live Forever by Jack Vance

Chris Haught (haughtc) To Rescue Tanelorn by Michael Moorcock. This is a compilation, but it also contains the story "To Rescue Tanelorn".

Can't believe I missed To Reign in Hell. It's on my bookshelves, for crying out loud.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) To Say Nothing of the Dog by Connie Willis, which I found too boring to read, but a lot of others liked.
