Never too Late to Read Classics discussion

In addition to our general Russian poetry thread, we are also reading Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin. This is a play written in poetry and I believe it may have been made into an opera.
Pushkin was one of the most esteemed poets of his century.
There are many translations available.
I read this oneYevgeny Onegin and found it very readable.

I started reading the 2008 Penguin Classics edition last night. It's translated by Stanley Mitchell and reads pretty well from the start. The introduction reveals that Pushkin, like his near contemporary Mikhail Lermontov, lost his life in a duel.

A dozen or so pages in, and I'm enjoying it. There seems to be an almost tongue-in-cheek quality to the narrative so far. I think I'm going to enjoy this...

I read Eugene Onegin a couple of years ago. I found reading “aloud” in my head made it so much more enjoyable.

I often do that with poetry.

I have finished! That was enjoyable and I must finally get around to reading Byron given how often he was referenced throughout. My review is up for those interested in my thoughts.
