I read this ages ago and enjoyed it. I had seen this at a school book fair long before and thought the title was unfortunate. After I read Salt to the Sea by Sepetys, I decided to read this one. Is is possible to say that I enjoyed it despite the bleakness of the subject matter?

I loved this book so much. Not quite as much as Salt to the Sea, but it was just so touching and realistic, and i loved the characters

I usually stay away from the darker books about starvation and despair, but somehow, I loved this book anyway. The way Ruta Sepetys wrote it was uplifting, even when everything seemed to go wrong. I really enjoyed it!!

I read this a long time ago when I saw it at the school book fair! Beautifully written book just very very sad. Highly recommend to those reading it for the first time!

Has anyone else read it recently?
