Oooohhh; these covers and the choices!! I love me some Harry Hole. I know he's toxic, but what MC named Harry isn't??? LOL

I loved the Millenium series. I need to get back into it. Many fans say that the new author has found his footing and the series is really good.

I've heard mixed comments about the Lagercrantz book. I haven't decided whether or not I'll eventually read them.

Interesting choices. I need to get back to Nesbo and Lackberg and finally read the 3rd book in the The Girl Who .... trilogy. Good luck with your reading.

I've been keeping Nesbo & Lackberg in a lot of my challenges and it's been a good way to work through both. I've also had the previous 2 Larsson books in this challenge in 2019 and 2021, again a good incentive to actually lift them from the bookcase and actually read them

I am among those who decided to give it a try with Lagercrantz. The first two he wrote were rather good and i liked them, the third one i totally hated it and that's when i decided to give up on the series. Lagercrantz has a very interesting style and i liked his writing but it was simply not the same anymore.
I think it depends on the reader.
I hope you enjoy them if you decide to read the rest of the series.

Thanks for the info. I'll finish the Larsson books and then decide whether or not to try the first of the Lagercrantz books

Emily wrote: "Good luck on your challenge, Vikki! They sound interesting! 🐾"

Thanks :) I have a mix of authors I know and like as well as some new ones. Some books I've heard lots about, some I haven't heard so much about.

Lea (leaspot) | 3629 comments What a great list, Vikki. I was one of those that read the Larsson books, but remain undecided about the Lagercrantz books. I did get caught up in the Outlander books, but now the new one is out, and I'm undecided about that too. Hopefully you will enjoy your choices.

I have enjoyed the Outlander books but somehow it always seems daunting to actually pick one up and start it! I need to give myself a kick and start this one

I feel the same, I've enjoyed the first 2, but never picked up the 3rd one...maybe this year? We'll see, that's what I said last year too. Good luck with your selections!

message 17: by Ann (new)

Ann I’ve been making my way slowly through the Outlander books for the past few years and I love them but I really struggled to get through The Fiery Cross. When I read reviews after I had finished it, I saw I was not alone. The good news is that I got into it more towards the end of the book so I was happy to keep reading the series. But I hope you enjoy it all the way through, Vikki!

I haven't read any of the reviews yet... hopefully I won't struggle with it. I tend to be quite persistent and get through books I struggle with but it does make the experience more tedious

First book finished, The Snow Killer which I've been very keen to read for some time. I'd heard a lot of good reviews about this book and it didn't disappoint. I have to admit one of the "twists" did catch me out. I'm definitely interested to read the next books in this series. 5 stars from me - a good way to start the year

Read the next book in the Millennium series by Lagercrantz and enjoyed it enough to pick up the next one this year sometime 🤞🏼
And Harry Hole? Yeah, he’s problematic but I still love him.

I’m really interested in what you think of Driftnet. I’m always looking for a good police procedural, even though I have a ton of other books on my tbr.

2nd book finished now - Girls Who Lie
This is the second book in the Forbidden Iceland series by Eva Björg Ægisdóttir. I read the first one in February 2021 and have been looking forward to finally getting a chance to read this one, especially after a webchat/seminar with some Nordic authors, including Eva. It caught my attention from the start and I was intrigued to find out what had happened. There was a twist towards the end which I didn't see coming and then I was even more keen to find out everything.
She does have a couple more books but they haven't been translated into English - I'll be keeping an eye for the translations as I'm definitely eager to read them.
A great start to 2022 with 2 5 star readings in the first week

3rd book finished - Driftnet
4 stars from me. I enjoyed this book, although the subject may be sensitive for some people. The ending felt rushed, at only 262 pages it wouldn't have been dragging it out to take more time with the ending.

Halfway there, book 6 finished today - Monster in the Closet
It's been a couple of years since I read my last Karen Rose book, coincidentally also in the Baltimore series. It was nice to return to the series. I warmed to the main character Taylor from early on. The 2 main storylines worked well together. Well written and made me want to keep reading to find out what happened. I'm not planning o leaving it as long before reading the next book that is already waiting on my shelves.

7th book finished - Poppy's Recipe for Life
A bit of a change from the crime books I've read so far for this challenge but as far as chick lit goes, I always enjoy Heidi Swain's books. They're easy to read & the characters are likeable. This one lived up to my expectations and brings me up to date with the Nightingale Square books before the next one is released this year.

11th book finished - Songbirds by Christy Lefteri. I preferred her previous book, The Beekeeper Of Aleppo but this was still a good book. The conclusion felt perhaps a little rushed/sudden for me and I think an epilogue could also have been a good ending. But still 4 stars from me.
