Bree (breeshan) | 26 comments I was having a book discussion with some friends at work today, and I had lent my copy of A Hunger Like No Other to a friend who is a fan of Fifty Shades of Grey. I thought the books might be comparable in adult content. She said a Hunger Like No Other was way dirtier than Fifty Shades of Grey. I only read the first hundred pages of Fifty Shades and stopped because I wasn't fond of Mr. Grey or his fetishes.
I realize that A Hunger Like No Other has an aggressive shower scene in the beginning... but I read through it, and I still found the Werewolf guy forgiving. The adult language isn't overly crude. And, I really liked the mythical lore. The author has created a unique realm of characters.

Kira | 11 comments I think it's not in a sense like 'dirty' am categorizing it as sensual and mature. And waaaay more fun than 50 shades! Coz FSOG is dark and kinky, read all the 3 books and I love the character of Mr. Grey but that's it.

Bree (breeshan) | 26 comments I agree. A Hunger like No Other is a very fun read. My friend called it dirty... and I felt like it wasn't. Just wanted some more opinions:) Thanks:)

Rabha Almahdi | 14 comments A hunger like no other couldn't be dirtier than Fifty shades of Grey, and I love the lore cause in their way of love you may find some paranormal reasons BUT in Fifty there are no reasons but a twisted mind of a human

(A Hunger Like No Other) My friend said, just because it is a supernatural story, it doesn't justify the actions of the characters. She hasn't gotten past the shower scene yet. And, I think she might understand his behavior by the end of the book, if she continues to read it. And, I feel her argument doesn't make sense to me because supernatural characters are not going to act completely human. I'm glad too. I find the characters more entertaining and less predictable. I can comprehend the world of the Lore creatures better than Mr. Grey and his sex contract. No offense to Mr. Grey.

Rabha Almahdi | 14 comments Do you know what Bree, I love that even the weakest one in Valhalla brought the lycee to his knees ..I like those tough women and I read the whole series and still waiting for more from Kresley Cole, I enjoyed the Immortals after dark series and I always get back and reread some of the books but when I finished the fifty shades series and tried to forget everything about it ^_^

Missyb | 42 comments I've never read the 50 shades series, and don't plan on reading them, but I have read the whole Kresley Cole series up to Dark Skye. I didn't find them "dirty". They have some sex, action, laughs, etc, but that's how I prefer my books. The sex doesn't overtake the plot. To me, if the sex is part of the story, then I could care less. It's when the plot disappears for the sex, that's when I give up on a series.

Jean | 16 comments I whole heartedly agree MissB!! So many times an author looses plot and character development to sex. Ms Cole does a wonderful balance of all in her IAD series!

Agreed 100x times. I find that IAD is more entertaining and also well written compared to FSoG. I don't like A Hunger Like No Other much, but I love the next book (Sebastian's book). IAD become better and better with each new installment

Yes. When the plot disappears for the sex. I completely understand. That is why I really enjoy Immortals After Dark. It has a little bit of everything. I especially like the true love theme.
I am currently reading No Rest For The Wicked. I really like Sebastian Wroth. He makes a great vampire.

These books are very sexual, but to me they are also romantic and have strong storytelling. I'm not an erotica fan, but I definitely love this series, even with the very in your face sensuality.

Would I call them dirty? The first time I read some of the sex scenes, I did have a wow moment, but I don't think they are dirty.

Ha! Me too. When Lachlain and Emmaline were in the shower together and you know what happened... my hand covered my mouth and I whispered a bad word. Then, I laughed at myself and kept reading.
Aside, Lachlain is the hunkiest Lykae that I have read about, so far. I am also interest to hear about Bowen's love story. He is appearing in No Rest For The Wicked... I hope he gets his own book.

I agree, the characters aren't human the males have certain animalistic qualities and instincts that drive them and the females can't just b bullied or abused because they are mentally and physically strong. I think it's important not to view the characters in human terms.

Rabha Almahdi | 14 comments yes Kelly when you think of them as paranormal creatures you will cut them some slack, but not when it comes too a human who enjoy abusing and beating women, and I read Fifty series and it's nothing but a kinky sex :P

Yes. The women are super strong. Especially the Valkyrie. I'm reading No Rest For The Wicked, and Sebastian and Bowen are fighting in front of Kaderin. Sebastian stands in front of her to protect her, and she has a smirk on her face... like, isn't he cute. So funny.

So glad:) It would be awful if the Lore creatures could only fall in love once, because they live for such a long time.

Fifty shades did extremely well at the box office opening weekend. And, the number one complaint was... not enough sex. Not sexy enough, etc. I think that basically explains the premise of the book.
Now, If Immortals After Dark were translated to film... I would prefer them as a t.v. series. Similar to Game of Thrones. I think they did a good job. I feel like the characters get to be more dynamic. Tho, I could be proven wrong. Peter Jackson did a really good job with Lord Of The Rings.

message 20: by Rute (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rute Sobreira | 18 comments I LOVE Imortals after dark and I have read all the books. Although I haven't read FSOG I know it is based on a BDSM relationship between the main 2 characters.
I find IAD an adult serie. A hunger like no other is perhaps my favorite book of them all. It was the 1st I read. I find it quite steammy. There are definetly some scenes that are very questionable, is there is abuse involved or not. For me not so much the shower scene but the mating under the moon. But once you understand the characters mode of life and their special features among the creatures you bend what you know so you can love all of them no matterwhat. KC is a master at psicology and she knows how to bend my limits just right.
Nevertheless, I think this books demand an elastic mind and some experience from life, the reader must/should read between the lines and view from a far what is NOT supose to happen in real life and what can. That is why I always say her books are for people older than 21 (and to be honest I'm not sure that would be enough, that would depend on each person maturity level).
But that is me.
And by the way, I'm not curious to read FSOG.

Bree if they made the movie like the book then it would turn to porn, I'm sure the movie would be better than the book, and about IAD as TV, I would love to but Vampire diaries was a huge failure to me but if they could follow the footsteps of Game of Thrones I would love to watch it

Exactly. FSOG would be a porn if they kept it exactly like the book.
Yeah, I didn't get into the Vampire Diaries, the t.v. series. The vampires were too human, and it was like watching a soap opera.
IAD as a t.v. series would have more action, more locations, more lore creatures. It has plenty to offer. And, it doesn't need to be as graphic as Game Of Thrones, to be good. The romance can be tastefully accomplished. I like Game Of Thrones because the characters are complex, the scenery is awesome, the plots are layered, and there are many surprises. I also like the t.v. show Sherlock. The dialogue is good, and so is Cumberbatch:)

Rabha Almahdi | 14 comments Oh I LOVE Sherlock and Cumberbatch is magnificent in that role, I'm still waiting for his forth season.
Game of Thrones series is good but sad, IAD would be way better, action, love and happy ending :)

Hunger Like No Other is the first book of Kresley Cole's that I read, and it is my favorite as well. I haven't read the first book in the series called A Warlord Wants Forever, and it is only available to download. I don't mind reading books on kindle, but I like buying paperback books and storing them on my bookshelf. Someday, I want to have a library in my house like the one in Beauty and the Beast.

Tania Bree the first book A Warlord Wants Forever is inPlaying Easy to Get if you want it in paperback

Rabha... I just watched Game of Thrones season 4 this weekend. It was a marathon! I didn't meant to watch them one after the other, but I couldn't wait to find out what happened. I'm so glad that my favorite character is still alive.
Since you like Sherlock, and Game of Thrones... you might like Firefly. I really enjoyed that t.v. series.

I think IAD would work fine on HBO. I doubt it has more sex than TrueBlood or GOT. I think GOT will really open up the arena for tv series adapted from books.

I agree. HBO would be a perfect network to launch IAD. I am reading No Rest For The Wicked, IAD, right now... and it is full of adventure, with its core centered on true love. Love it:) Have you seen Taylor Swifts music video called Blank Space. Check out the guy in the video. He would make a perfect vampire:) Possible Sebastian:)
