Patricia | 1136 comments I should probably wait until the poll decides exactly what we will consider a "tome" but I won't go too crazy here. I'll try for 10.

Patricia | 1136 comments Yeah, probably should make that five. Not sure I will read too many over 500, but five might be doable.

3) Cloud Cuckoo Land 622 pp; finished 3/11; 5 stars

4) The City of Brass 533 pp; finished 3/30; 4 stars

5) Under Heaven 573 pp; finished 4/10; 4 stars

6) Moonflower Murders 608 pp; finished 5/23; 4 stars

7) The Witch Elm 528 pp.; finished 7/4; 5 stars

8) Cloud Cuckoo Land 626 pp; audio (12 cds; not sure of the time); finished 9/12; 5 stars

Patricia | 1136 comments I have several tomes started but have finally finished one.
Inkspell. The second in a young adult fantasy series. According to goodreads, I listened to the third one several years ago, but I don't remember it, so I'll be planning a reread soon.
Finished 2/16; 635 pp.; 4 stars

I enjoyed this series very much

Patricia | 1136 comments Finished (finally!) Troubled Blood last night. I do enjoy this series which you would have to continue it. I see that the next one is to have 1500 pages?! Could this be true?
Anyway, number 5 in the Cormoran Strike series. Good mystery & I didn't see the ending coming. This is more about the characters than the mystery. If you've become fond of Strike and Robin, you definitely want to keep reading their story. Galbraith/Rowling is great at building characters. There were definitely some crazy ones in this one. Could it have been shorter? I don't know. It kept me turning the pages and I was never bored, so maybe not. Not sure exactly about the title?
I read an ebook edition at 887 pages though the hardcover is at 944. That's usually the other way around.

Patricia | 1136 comments Finished Cloud Cuckoo Land last night. Loved it! 622 pages

Patricia | 1136 comments The City of Brass (533 pp in HC). First in a trilogy. I really enjoyed this though I admit to being to confused with some of the characters and their backgrounds. Not sure if it's because I'm unfamiliar with the mythology some of this is based on or not. For all I know, she made it all up. I read this on kindle but will definitely read the next one in paperback, so I take notes better. 4 stars

Patricia | 1136 comments I haven't read a book by Guy Gavriel Kay in forever. Definitely need to do some catching up. Finished Under Heaven yesterday. In hardcover, this book is 573 pp. That makes 5 tomes for me & I didn't think I would do more than that. Hopefully, I will as it is still quite early in the year.

Patricia | 1136 comments Moonflower Murders is the second in a series by Anthony Horowitz. I read this as an ebook at 496 pp but the hardcover (which has been my standard) comes in at 608pp. Funny, because usually the ebook has more pages.
Just as in Magpie Murders, this is a book within a book. Susan Ryeland (a book editor by trade) has been asked to solve a mystery which someone believes can be solved by reading a book she edited several years ago. Is the answer to an 8 year old murder really within this novel?

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments I read that last year, but wasn't that keen.

Patricia | 1136 comments Finished The Witch Elm at 528 pages. 5 stars

I loved Magpie Murders, but have not read his second book in this series yet.

Patricia | 1136 comments I read Cloud Cuckoo Land again because my book read it for September. I listened to the audio this time but it's still a tome & I still loved it. Would have rather waited a year or so to reread, but it happens.

Patricia | 1136 comments The Punishment She Deserves. The 20th Inspector Lynley series, a favorite of mine. This one clocked in with 692 pages, so I enjoyed reading it on my kindle. My thumbs just can't hold up with these tomes like they used to. (Maybe that's what happened to them!)

message 15: by Patricia (new)

Patricia | 1136 comments So, I have read 10 tomes with Empire of Grass, the second in a fantasy series. More than I thought I would and I have another 600 or page book, I should finish soon.

Patricia | 1136 comments Finished Fellowship Point at 592 pp; 4 stars. I'll write more about it in my individual challenges.
