Welcome HRBC members to the fifth annual Romance Across The Ages challenge!

In this challenge, we have 24 subgenres to choose from and you get to choose how many books you want to tackle this year, with the minimum being 12. There are some changes from last year based on the challenge feedback.

We have selected 2 random subgenres per month and we will be reading the same subgenres together. We will be tracking challenges here on the thread and on a challenge shelf. Instructions below.

We have 24 subgenres to choose from this year and the participants choose at least 12 subgenres. The goal is to read at least 12 books from at least 12 subgenres, one per subgenre. However, you can also choose as many subgenres as you want to read.

Hello all! Challenge is up. I randomized, but I did intentionally pair up subgenres with the same months as the BOTM. You can start signing up today!

The links of suggestions are going to be put in alphabetical order, rather than by month. I have not checked to see if links still work yet, so if you notice any that need removed or find another resource to add, let me know.

I'm planning on reading:

Cath | 370 comments ^Me too. I've had a copy for several years. Had no idea it was a pirate story, so when I saw it on a pirate-story list, figured it would be perfect way to get it off my TBR stack this year via the RAA challenge.

Thanks for the rec! I'm still not 100% sure which book to go with so hearing from other readers is so helpful!! It has been a few years since I have read historicals with any frequency but I want to get back into them more as I (almost) always enjoy them when I pick one up.

Happy New Year everyone! I will get tracking links up soon. My internet seems to be acting up some this weekend so it might not be today.

Pirate and/or American Revolution to start the year out — looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading.

Heather Graham books are good. I am partial and enjoy the old time authors than the recent ones.

I really liked The Lion In Glory by her, and want to read Ondine for the Stuarts option. Of courseThe Queen's Lady for Tudors, so this has become a very Heather Graham-styled challenge for me! Wonder if I can make them all for her..

Lauren | 1368 comments I just finished 3 pirate books! I rarely read pirate books. I know they only count as one but I'm going to list them anyway. Only With Your Love (Vallerands, #2) by Lisa Kleypas by Lisa Klepas. It was good just not as good as the first book. Next I read Till Dawn Tames the Night by Meagan McKinney by Meagan Mckinney. I very much enjoyed this pirate BR. Lastly, I read The Spanish Rose by Shirlee Busbee by Shirlee Busbee, which was another good BR.

For American Revolution: I'm planning to read The Turncoat's Widow by Mally Becker by Mally Becker.

SunnyCAGirl | 11 comments January, Pirate:
Only With Your Love by Lisa Kleypas.
This book is a bit wild. I do like the Vallerands and the New Orleans setting, but wow.... a lot of crazy plot twists and dubious consent in this one. Be ready!

February, Regency:
When a Girl Loves an Earl
Confessions of a Dangerous Lord
Anything but a Gentleman
A Marriage Made in Scandal
All by Elisa Braden...all 4 stars though Confessions of a Dangerous Lord was probably my favorite of the 4.

March, Victorian:
A Rogue of One's Own by Evie Dunmore. This was my favorite of her series. I loved the hero and heroine and didn't expect to!

April, Edwardian:
The Sinful Ways of Jamie Mackenzie by Jennifer Ashley- 4 stars, loved this revisit to the MacKenzie family and meeting the next generation.

May, Medieval:
Honor's Splendour by Julie Garwood- 5 stars
An amazing medieval...love these 2 together.

June, Georgian:
When the Duke Returns, Eloisa James- 3 stars
Meh...could have been much better.

July, Your Choice:
Never Seduce a Scot- 5 stars
So good...unusual story and heroine. And the hero is a cinnamon roll of a highland warrior.

August, Tudor/Renaissance:
The Devil to Pay- 3 stars
I wanted more emotional intimacy and more action overall. Nice change of setting vs. my typical HRs as this was 1492 Italy.

September, Viking:
Enslaved by the Viking by Harper St. George- 3 stars- (this book is not as bad as it sounds as she gets the most broken, kindest viking there is)

October, Bodice Ripper:
Tender Rebel and Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey- both 4 stars

November, Stuart, Restoration:
Campbell Trilogy by Monica McCarty. Highland Warrior, Highland Outlaw, Highland Scoundrel. 1st and 3rd book were a strong 4 stars. 2nd book was 3.5 due to slow start.

December, pick from TBR:
Ten Things I Hate About the Duke by Loretta Chase. 5 stars all the way. I was surprised by this because I didn't particularly care for the first book in the series. But this one was just so much fun all the way through. All of the high jinx I want from a regency romance and great characters.

That sounds good! I've been DNFing a lot this month, and I hope this doesn't signal a reading slump for me. I've requested Captive of My Desires (Malory-Anderson Family, #8) by Johanna Lindsey from my library, so I'm hoping that will be good.

Lauren, I loved the book!! Because I've enjoyed the BOTM so much I thought that maybe this author had some book about pirates and give it a try. In the Lions Lady there are some references that Lyon had been a pirate, but it's the only thing, and I think that he was not a pirate but eventually a privateer for the Home Office

message 50: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 1368 comments well, atleast you got to read a good book. I just read Passion's Ransom by Betina Krahn. I thought it was about privateers during the Revolutionary War . But no, it was just about pirates. That's my 4th pirate book this month! I don't think I've read that many books on pirates in 5 years! ;)
