Theresa | 15526 comments A reread via audiobook read by Jim Frangione to amuse me while traveling recently. Bumps rating to 4 stars, as Frangione really nails the voice of Chet, and even removes the criticism I had in my review from reading the print version in 2017 -- see below. I had heard so many good things about Frangione's reading, I am happy to say I was NOT disappointed!

2017 review: Light, funny, quirky PI mystery, told entirely from a dog's POV. First in the Chet and Bernie series, Bernie Little and his dog Chet are the Little Detective Agency which perpetually have money problems though Bernie is no slouch. In this one, they are hired by a divorcee to find her missing daughter, and thus the adventure begins.

I found it for the most part quite entertaining, even though effects included to enhance the sense that a dog is telling this story became a bit tiresome. Others are hilarious, such as Chet's frequent mention of failing K-9 school and that a cat might have been involved. I will read more of the series.

Jim Frangione did such a fantastic job of taking me into Chet and Bernie's world and I want to get to know them from the beginning. I understand we can find out more about what happened when Chet failed his police K9 test in the novella A Cat Was Involved.

He really did. All those things that I don't like about audiobooks faded away completely listening to him read this. I was also glad to revisit the first in the series as I plan to get back into the series in 2022. I've been neglecting all my favorite cozy series these last couple of years.
