January 2022 Exotic/International Settings Group Read Nominations Thread
date
newest »

Start by reading the entire description because there are often criteria that need to be met (such as being international in this case) and check the link of previous reads to make sure you're not nominating something that's already been read by the group. Then just add a comment to the thread like this one...
I nominate

By the way, If you want to second (or third, fourth or whatever) other people's nomination(s) you can just add a comment with something like "+1 Red Sparrow".

You can advertise in the Author section and if ever the Author Group Read will be revived nominate you book there. Other than that there are no possibilities as far as I'm aware.

Water as a weapon of war. The world's vulnerable water supplies. While the world reels from Russia’s overtures in its former Republics and the Middle East falls into turmoil, Islamic terrorist cells disappear overnight from Europe after meeting with a Russian suspected to deal in unconventional arms. Appearing in the United States through its southern border, multiple attacks on America’s vulnerable water infrastructure threaten to return the United States to eighteenth century conditions. With the intelligence community compromised, a frantic search develops to uncover the plot and what elements or Nation States are behind it.
The attacks require a response from a President seeking reelection. But will it be against the wrong target? Are the attacks designed not only to attack America but also bring American retaliation against the antagonists’ real enemy?
While the Middle East embroiled in secular conflict and the vulnerable Russian economy edges toward the loss of its natural gas monopoly with Europe, the United States must confront a new understanding of the importance of electricity and water to twenty-first century civilization. And just how vulnerable water infrastructure is to acts which Threaten Waters essential for life.

Here are so..." The Missing Hours by Emma Kavanaugh

A deadly tide of poison flows into ocean waters. A ghost ship drifts across the empty northern Pacific. A luxury Soviet liner blazes into a funeral pyre. The Presidential yacht cruises the Potomac night—and the President disappears without a trace.
Dirk Pitt takes on a sinister Asian shipping empire in an intercontinental duel of nerves. In his most dangerous, fast-paced adventure, he fights to save the US government—and to seize one desperate moment of revenge!

Hi Kevin. My advice to authors is to be active members on the group and participate in discussions so that members can get to know you as a fellow action/adventure fan. You are more likely to build connections that way. If you want to participate in group reads, approach it as a fellow reader. You are more than welcome to nominate books that are not written by yourself and books you simply want to read. As for nominating your own books, currently there is no mechanism for that. If Author Member Group Reads start again, that would be an opportunity, but not in the regular group reads. You are welcome to create threads for yourself in the Member Author section.

I'm nominating The Secret of Excalibur by Andy McDermott. It's book three in the series and we've read book 1. I believe it's standalone enough where it should be okay to read it.
Blurb:
The third brilliant adventure thriller featuring archaeologist Nina Wilde, in which Nina must find Excalibur, King Arthur's beloved sword. Said to make whoever holds it unstoppable in battle, the sword Excalibur has been coveted across the ages, and thought lost for over a thousand years. With a cryptic message to archaeologist Nina Wilde, this may be about to change. Historian Bernd Rust believes he can locate Excalibur...and that the sword is the key to harnessing an incredible source of energy. Nina is sceptical -- until she and Rust are attacked by mercenaries determined to steal his research. Nina and her boyfriend, ex-SAS soldier Eddie Chase, are soon propelled into a deadly race to find Excalibur. From the deserts of Syria to the arctic wastes of Russia, Nina and Chase must battle a merciless enemy who plans to use the sword's powers to plunge the world into a new era of war...

Here are some other things to consider when you make your nomination:
1. One nomination per group member. The books must be nominated with a Goodreads link by clicking on 'add book/author'. If a book does not have a Goodreads link, it will not be added to the poll.
2. Books need to be readily available, ie, in print (able to buy new or in ebook format).
3. Books should have some degree of action/adventure content.
4. Past group reads are not eligible to be nominated again. The past group discussions remain open for members to comment. You can view the list of past reads here:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
5. Books must be either standalone or first in a series (or they may be later in a series if constructed to be read as a standalone).
6. Authors are asked not to nominate their own books or solicit nominations from members.
The poll will go up on December 25th.
