Hello dear members of RMFAO,

We all love reading series (how can we not, right?) There are so many amazing series that we simply can't have enough of. Reading about the familiar characters, following their lives one book after the other and exploring their worlds intimately is an entirely different experience than reading a standalone novel.

Reading a series is like living in different-different fictional worlds in a true sense. But so many times, much to our dismay, we fail to complete these series even the ones we love that were started long ago. Sometimes "real life" comes in the way and other times procrastination does, but in spite of everything we still think about reading those leftover books and completing those series, but to no avail.

This challenge is devised for this very problem, and we are happy to present the 8th instalment of this extraordinary challenge - RMFAO 2022 Series Challenge.

RMFAO 2022 Series Challenge is here to give you an opportunity to complete the series you've longed to complete for a long time (or maybe even recently)! You can even start with a fresh series and try to complete it within the year. Just pick a level you want to aim for and start reading.

Levels:
Level 1: Casual Reader: 1-2 series (easy)
Level 2: Frequent Reader: 3-5 series (moderate)
Level 3: Bookworm: 6-8 series (mildly strenuous)
Level 4: Bibliophile: 9-10 series (strenuous)
Level 5: Bookiopath: 11 series or more (challenging)

That makes me feel relieved and excited!! Thanks a ton!

Tyler_zakiyareadsbooks_ I'm like super bad at finishing off series so have made it my priority for 2022 to change that... we shall see how it goes. I'll start at Level 2 and see how that goes!

Brenda H (brendahsd) | 44 comments Question - are we reading series that have been completed or just reading up to the current book? I've got several series that I put aside simply because I decided that I didn't want to wait between books and that I'd go back to them when they were done or that there were enough books I haven't read to make it a good run.

So far this year, I've completed 3 finished series (Wheel of Time, The Jigsaw Files, Hungry Cities) and have brought a few current (Charles Lenox, High Society Lady Detective, Cleopatra Fox, Erika Foster, Mike Bowditch) as well as working on some long-running ones...(looking at you "In Death"...)

Brenda,

If new books in a series are still being written, then go ahead and read up until the latest book.

Sherri,

I think you can finish a series that you started in previous years. (Or you can read up to the newest book, if a series is still being written.) Perhaps Dagny can post her thoughts, too.

Dagny wrote: " My problem I'm sort of pondering is for authors who have died but their series is being continued by someone else. "

Dagny,

Yes, I see what you mean. I read the horse racing mystery books by Dick Francis, but now his son Felix Francis has taken over since his father died. However on Felix's books it says "a Dick Francis novel", even though Felix has a little different writing style.

Sherri Bryant (sherribryant) | 136 comments I think that happened with Sue Grafton's alphabet series, but not sure who took over the series when she died.

For the purposes of this challenge, do we list all the books in the series or just the ones we've read this year?

Sherri,

Just list the books in the series that you’ve read this year.

I love that series! Sometimes I listen to the audios and the narrator (Grover Gardner) does a fabulous job."

This was my first read of this series so I'm missing the first 22 but I really enjoyed it and have a few more lined up. I agree Grover Gardner was brilliant narrating the audio.

〰️Beth〰️ (x1f4a0bethx1f4a0) | 260 comments Change of plans… not listing every book. Finished 19 complete series and I think I started 5 others so far this year. The benefit of making reading box sets as a goal. Most were fantasy, science fiction or romance. Oh and insomnia helped too, lol.

Sherri Bryant (sherribryant) | 136 comments Women's Murder Club Series by James Patterson
#11 - 11th Hour

I set aside the Kitty Norville selection I started earlier this month. Just wasn't feeling it and when I'm listening to an audio and have to keep rewinding because my mind is drifting, that's a sign...lol

#1 - Plymouth Undercover AB 3/5

Sherri Bryant (sherribryant) | 136 comments Another brand-new series by another new to me author. Looks like it's just the one book for now, but if you like graphic thrillers or police procedurals, give this one a look.

It IS so frustrating and often I forget about a series and when I remember it, it's been so long since reading any, that I worry I will have to start it all over. :-)

message 31: by Peter (new)

Peter Meek (pwmeek) | 36 comments Well, I embarked on a (possibly unfinishable) series: the Kurtherian series by Michael Anderle (and many other coauthors). Several hundred books so far, with more being added at the rate of several books per week at times. Pulp (self-described) SF/Fantasy. I'm still at it (although taking a "vacation" currently), so it can't be too horrible. Also Eric Flint's (1632 universe) multi-author series (with under 100 titles, not quite so prolific as Anderle's).

On another note, I managed 195 books for 2022, plus all the extra titles included in omnibus collections which only count as a single title in Goodreads (likely another several dozen). Rereading Nevil Shute, John Sandford (Prey/Flowers/Kidd), Lee Child (Reacher), Dahners (several YA series), Terry Pratchett (Discworld)... So many books, so little time.

Youtube is killing my reading time. I get sucked in and wonder where the day went. I actually missed two days of reading last month after a year with no misses. My "perfect weeks" is up over four years though.

Peter,
Reading 195+ books is amazing! Congratulations on your accomplishment. 2023 is a new year and another chance to read even more.
