Kat (kat_falkenroth) | 584 comments Since I couldn't finish my 250 books for the 2021 reading-challenge, I will obviously aim for 300 in 2022.

This one sounds good Kat! What did you think of it?

Pretty shocking. You seem to need to sell your soul and at least one of your kidneys to get help in the US.
The book was on Obama's summer reading list which is sort of a joke in my opinion - former president subtly denouncing the ways of his own country AFTER he left office?

Content-wise there were some moments that made me think "seriously, lady?" about the author and way more moments thinking the same about the people whose houses she cleaned. You just can't invent this sh!t...

Well written and thought provoking, so 5* and would recommend.

Sounds good Kat!! I will definitely put it on my list!

And as far as Obama, well, he was pretty willing to challenge the things about America that needed improving after, during, AND before was in office. He was an organizer for years when he was younger. But president or not, unfortunately he was just one man. Definitely one of the former presidents with the most interesting or challenging reading picks though! I had no idea this one had been on one of his lists, but it makes sense.

Kat (kat_falkenroth) | 584 comments True that, just one man - who faced quite the opposition to proposed changes, I'm sure. But that's a given, not just in the U.S.

Have you read anything written by him? I enjoyed The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream and have A Promised Land on my TBR.

I actually haven't Kat, though I suspect I would like it based on the authors he reads! I added the [book:The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream
to my to read list.

Thanks! :)

Positively surprised, indeed! I gave it 4 ⭐️s.

Noticeable: Hillary went down the "tell me you are a US writer without telling me you are a US writer" path with all the pathos used to describe how the United States are the greatest nation in the history of nations, full of freedom and democracy and all that... 😅

Surprising to have a politician (main character and author alike) say: "who needs to follow laws when it's for the greater good?"

But weren't the thinly veiled barbs towards the Trump administration a delight?

How did you like it?
