My goal is to make a big dent in my ebook collection. I made good progress in 2021 and hope to do even better in 2022.
That isn't going to stop me from reading paper books and borrowing books from the library, or from Libby, of course!

Eileen | 1854 comments You've got this! Wishing the best of luck! I'm trying to see if I can end the year with fewer books on my TBR than I begin with. It may not happen, but it's at least a good goal, ha ha!

Books in Dutch:

Eileen | 1854 comments I love that you can read books in different languages! How many languages do you speak/read?

message 24: by Rosemarie, Obsessive Reader (new)

Rosemarie | 4506 comments Mod
I'm fluent in three, English, German and French.
I can read and understand Italian,Spanish and Dutch, and speak it a little if I plan what I'm going to say first.
I can read Portuguese.
I started learning the four languages mainly for travel and reading. I like to be able to understand signs when I travel-which I sure hope happens soon!

message 25: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments Wow, that is amazing! I've never been good at languages (unlike my dad who was fluent in four--Taiwanese, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, and English), but as an adult and a tutor, I decided I wanted to learn Spanish. So I'm currently working on that with Duolingo, but also looking for simple children's books in Spanish to try reading.

That's a good idea, especially if they're for beginning readers. You'll find that once you learn one new language it actually becomes easier to learn another one. I don't know exactly why, but it worked that way for me.
German is my first spoken language, and I studied French for five years in high school and four years in university.
The others were self-taught, but I was a qualified French teacher before I retired, so I have an advantage.
Four years of Latin in high school really helped with Italian.

One of my friends is using Duolinguo to learn Spanish too, also a retired French teacher.

message 27: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments That's very cool. I'll have to ask people for recommendations for children's Spanish books, but I might just browse what my library has!

You never know what you're going to find at the library. I found the comic strip For Better, For Worse in Spanish.

message 29: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments Oooh, I love that comic strip! I'll definitely take a trip over there this week and ask one of the librarians to direct me to the appropriate location! :)

I did read Foucault's Pendulum-I should get a medal for doing a reading marathon with that book!

message 46: by Eileen (new)

Eileen | 1854 comments I'm not sure if I have it in me to tackle Foucault's Pendulum right now, lol! I read Name of the Rose in high school and I remembered finding it odd but I have an overall positive memory of it. I have no idea what I would think today!
