A book with a blue cover: The Hawthorne Legacy
I just completed Stone Song by Will Blevins, historic fiction by a new to me author, about the Oglala Sioux warrior Crazy Horse. The author based the outward incidents of the story on historical facts, such as the movements of the tribes and battles with the US Army, but augments the tale with suppositions and poetic license about the interior life of his subject based on other writers such as Black Elk. It’s a terrific biographical novel that serves up an interesting blend of history, cultural anthropology, psychology and heartfelt insight into a vanished way of life.
