Would anyone like to join me for a BR in January? The proposed book is The Wicked Wyckerly by Patricia Rice

It was nominated in the humour category, but did not get picked.

I was thinking of starting in the new year

Sorry if I have posted this in the wrong section - I have not done this before.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1215 comments I have this book. And have been meaning to read it. In the new year is good for me 👍

I have started reading this. I am up to chapter 8 and I am really enjoying it so far. The characters are all interesting and I am a little intrigued. I am quite fond of Mr Wyckerly already....I do like a rogue with a soft centre

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1215 comments I will start this later today. Sounds like it could be a good story.

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1215 comments I am also up to chapter 8. The story has started off well. Mr Wyckerly is coming over as a lovable rogue.

Well I am now about 75% through and still enjoying it. I don't really want it to end. It has surprising depth, I am enjoying the main characters and the secondary characters are also well drawn.

It took me a while to understand what Hoyt and Lady Bell were up to. Their bet did and subsequent actions did not make sense for a while (I even read that chapter twice), but now it does.

I am finding the role of the second son quite interesting. Different to many other stories with second sons (or spares). I also find the gambling interesting - as it is also coming from a different perspective than many other novels.

Maybe I should start in the prequel: INCOMPARABLE LORD MEATH – NOVELLA, what do you think?

That sounds like a good idea. I am thinking that I will add this series to my 2022 challenge....including the novella

Mariana | 2692 comments Thanks for the tip that there is a novella prequel.

I'm going to dive in and start The Wicked Wyckerly tonight without reading Incomparable Lord Meath Novella: A Rebellious Sons prequel first. I doubt I will make it eight chapters in, but we will see.

I've read the prequel, it was very little and a nice reading. It's about a couple Honoria and Evan and about the "beginning" of the Dowager contess of Belden. It was nice!

I think I will also add this to the series challenge for 2022

🐝 Shaz 🐝 | 1215 comments I have read 66% of the book, and still enjoying the story. I like both H and h. Also liking the H and his daughters relationship. They have all arrived at the big house.
Looking forward to the the rest of the story.

I'm also on 66% of the book and also enjoying. I like the couple very much and the way they bond with each other for the sake of the children.

Yes - I am going to read the series too. I finished it a few days ago and I still think about it, which is more than I can say for a lot of books.

I keep thinking of the rogue Wyckerly spending his nights killing vermin and cleaning his London townhouse and it makes me smile. I thought the dry humour was well done and the romance was lovely

Mariana | 2692 comments I am now finally through chapter 8. I'm really enjoying it and not reading anything else at the moment - just not much time to read per day right now. I was worried because I realized I read one book by this author over 6 years ago and rated it one star. The writing is witty and amusing. I like all the characters - even his daughter. Before I started reading, I saw one of the most used bookshelves was 'children'. I was confused. Now I get it. It's hard to write children characters well when they play a big part of the story. On paper, I didn't think I should like Mr Wyckerly; but I do. Patricia Rice did a good job of making it seem like he has a good heart and good intentions. He just doesn't have any experience with love or a family. Enough of my rambling. I'm tired, and this feels like a run on paragraph. Not sure it makes sense, but I wanted to post my thoughts before going to bed. I'll read more tomorrow.

Mariana, you make total sense!!! I did enjoyed the characters and especially there relation with and because of the children.

Mariana | 2692 comments Thanks! I'm through chapter 17 now. Still enjoying it and like the added mystery. Who is trying to kill our hero and why?
