We all agree on the basic definition of a cozy mystery, but we also have our own unique view. These tasks are about some of those views.

Set your own goals (resolutions) on this one. You set the length of time and the number of tasks you want to complete.

Cozy mysteries rarely focus on sex, profanity, or violence
1. Read a book where the MC kisses someone
2. Read a book with the potential for romance, but it doesn’t start yet
3. Read a book with a new romance
4. Read a book where someone says the cozy version of profanity – dang, darn, heck, shoot, drat
5. Read a book with minor violence – vandalism, a physical altercation with no injuries or small ones, a verbal altercation
6. Read a book where the death is first thought to be natural or accidental

Cozies usually take place in a small town or village where people know each other and the MC is an amateur sleuth
7. Read a book where the MC moves (or has recently moved) from a city to a small town or village
8. Read a book with a busybody/gossiper
9. Read a book with a family member who frustrates the MC by trying to be ‘helpful’ to their personal life
10. Read a book where the death of a family member has taken place or takes place
11. Read a book where the MC works with law enforcement (usually one person who takes them seriously)
12. Read a book where the MC is warned off or discouraged by law enforcement and solves the mystery without them

Cozy mysteries also seem to be part of a series that is centered around a particular theme, hobby, or interest, such as: puzzles, gardening, cooking, etc.
13. Read a book with your favorite theme
14. Read a book with a theme you haven’t read before
15. Read a book where the MC has a hobby/interest that you share
16. Read a book with a hobby/interest that you would like to learn more about

Contrary Cozies – these should still feel like a cozy to you
17. Read a book with a city as a setting
18. Read a book with an MC who is a professional (law enforcement, PI, bond agent
19. Read a book that doesn’t meet the traditional definition of a cozy, but gives you the feeling of one

Cheryl A. (teddi1961) Some books list as cozies but, even though they contain no actual profanity, there are phrases written in a way the reader can see the underlying meaning!

I may attempt all of the above goals - if I can work on them throughout the year.

If you have some that you think might fit, try asking if anyone has read it and if it'll work. I'll set up a thread in this folder for help.

One book for each task. But you set your goal on how many tasks you want to complete.

I didn't even think about setting up a list of participants. Sorry, that would have made things easier. Can I blame Nell for not telling me I needed to do that? :)

APRIL 22 - Infinity

We all agree on the basic definition of a cozy mystery, but we also have our own unique view. These tasks are about some of those views.

Set your own goals (resolutions) on this one. You set the length of time and the number of tasks you want to complete.

Cozy mysteries rarely focus on sex, profanity, or violence
💐1. Read a book where the MC kisses someone. (Lindsey & Sully)
On Borrowed Time - Jenn McKinlay 05/01/22
On Borrowed Time (Library Lover's Mystery, #5) by Jenn McKinlay

🐣2. Read a book with the potential for romance, but it doesn’t start yet. (Sloan & Garrett 🤞🏼)
Beyond a Reasonable Stout - Ellie Alexander 04/29/22
Beyond a Reasonable Stout (Sloan Krause #3) by Ellie Alexander

3. Read a book with a new romance

🐣4. Read a book where someone says the cozy version of profanity – dang, darn, heck, shoot, drat (Heck, page 217)
A Zen for Murder - Leighann Dobbs 04/24/22
A Zen for Murder (Mooseamuck Island, #1) by Leighann Dobbs

💐5. Read a book with minor violence – vandalism, a physical altercation with no injuries or small ones, a verbal altercation. (Short fist fight, Tony & Carlos)
On Thin Icing - Ellie Alexander 05/04/22
On Thin Icing (A Bakeshop Mystery, #3) by Ellie Alexander

💐6. Read a book where the death is first thought to be natural or accidental.
