It does seem to be a nice mix. I've only read Practical Magic. Enjoyed the book and the movie. Enjoy your 2022 reading

Zora What the Eyes Don't See came to me at a pivotal, awful moment, I loved it so, so much. I just re-read my review and burst into tears again, remembering how that felt. I hope you find it uplifting too.

Lisa | 14 comments Completed the first book for this challenge for 2022 - The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell. A very good story and a great way to start 2022. Hope all books I've chosen for the challenge this year are as good as this one!

Lisa | 14 comments Book 2 done - What the Eyes Don't See. Was a fascinating portrayal of the water crisis in Flint, Michigan. Made for a great discussion.

Lisa | 14 comments Finished two books so far in March. An Invisible Thread is an uplifting memoir of a single woman helping a street boy in New York City and the effect that relationship had on their lives. Surviving Savannah is historical fiction of the steamship Pulaski sinking in 1838. Enjoyed both books, but liked Surviving Savannah better - since I enjoy fiction better than memoirs.

Lisa, a long while ago my boss was talking about this book because she is cousins with the author. So, I got the book as soon as it came out. I really loved it, thought it was a very moving story.
I had not heard of Surviving Savannah before, but it sounds very interesting. Glad you liked them both.

Lisa | 14 comments Haven't been online in a while; but have completed three more books off this list in April and May - The Good Earth, Anxious People and Ceremony in Death. The Good Earth is a classic and glad I read it. I know Anxious People has been liked/love by a whole lot of people, but was just so-so for me. If I hadn't read it for a book club, I would have given up after the first 50 pages. Ceremony in Death, while the 5th in this series, follows the same format as the others. I'll read a few more, but will see if I tire of these to commit the entire series which is huge.

〰️Beth〰️ (x1f4a0bethx1f4a0) | 470 comments Welcome back, you are doing great on this challenge. I loved his other book, My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry, but I never got past the first chapter of Anxious People. I have been afraid to try A Man Called Ove because everyone seems to love that one also.

Best wishes on the rest of your challenge.

Beth, if you give it a chance, it will all make sense. I had the same impulse to abandon it, but did not because it was a buddy read. I'm happy I read it.

Lisa | 14 comments Life has been too busy and it's been forever since I've updated my books in this challenge, but I have managed to get these done since July:
Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End - completed in July - this was really interesting and worthwhile to read and makes you think about your own directives as we age. My book club had a great discussion on this book.
Falling - completed 9/15/2022. My husband and I both read this as it's been on our list to read since it was published last year. I think both our expectations were high so it fell short for us. But, it was still enjoyable.
Troubles in Paradise - completed 10/10. This was just so-so for me. The first in the trilogy was the best and I thought this was slow to get things wrapped up. My least favorite of the three.

I've been listening to Practical Magic on my work commute and also started The Newcomer. I just might get this challenge completed!!!

Lisa | 14 comments 11th and 12th books completed! Wasn't sure I was going to make it this year. Listened to Practical Magic on work commutes. Liked the move and had always wanted to read the book. A fun read for October. Finished The Newcomer a couple weeks ago and enjoyed it.

Currently reading Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe so will actually complete a bonus for the year. Really good so far!
