Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments I think I'm going for The Book of Souls although the next in the Seven Sisters is incredibly tempting! I'm intrigued as to how a book followed you home Renee!!

Emily (readerlover1995) | 195 comments Mine will be Haunting the Deep by Adriana Mather. The first book, How To Hang A Witch got me caught in its pages and I couldn’t put it down! I could so relate to it! This one involves the history of the Titanic, one of my most favorite history subjects, even before I was a teenager! Anxious to start it! 🐾 😆😁

Icy-Cobwebs-In-Space (readingreindeerproximacentauri) | 13 comments I had chosen Moon Lake and The Kaiju Preservation Society as my first two 2022 reads; then I saw the #LadiesFirst22 Challenge on Twitter, so first read will be The Last House on Needless Street for #LOHF.

Martha (marthas48) | 767 comments Oh, Carolien, I'll be reading Arabella in January for another group's January read. It will be a reread, but I love it so it won't be a problem. I'll be reading Cousin Kate maybe in February. I do love Heyer!!

However, my first two that I have already set aside with bookmarks are Lincoln for my 1st annual challenge & T is for Trespass for my author of the month.

I'll probably finish The Bad Seed tonight or early tomorrow. It's the only one that I am that close to finishing.

message 19: by Jim (last edited Jan 01, 2022 06:26AM) (new)

Jim Townsend | 45 comments Hmmm. I started FiveEquations That Changed the World: The Power and Poetry of Mathematics by Michael Guillen but did not finish it yesterday, so I guess I'll try to finish it unless carryovers don't count. Or it may be The Man Who Loved Only Numbers: The Story of Paul Erdős and the Search for Mathematical Truth by Paul Hoffman.

I ended up with We Own This City: A True Story of Crime, Cops and Corruption in an American City which was the book picked for me for January for the "Ugly Once" challenge.

message 24: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 1103 comments I started The Dovekeepers and then I wanted a quick book, so I started and finished Scraps of Paper. This was the book chosen for me through the PIFM challenge. I'm happy to start the new year with one book finished!

message 25: by Kim (new)

Kim Kaso | 6 comments I wanted to re-read The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley, a book I loved very much the first time I read it. I just got the third book in the series (Slains, or the Scottish series, as it is variously known) and so I am going to read all three this year. Following closely will be Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel which has been on my tbr pile ever since it first came out. It seems very timely as of late.

I loved Station Eleven. Good choice.

message 27: by Irphen (new)

Irphen | 33 comments I've started with a non fiction, Celtic Myths by Miranda Jane Green, which I've nearly finished. Next will be a classic vampire story Carmilla by J. Sheridan Le Fanu and a modern retelling of episodes of nordic mythology, The Witch's Heart by Genevieve Gornichec.

message 28: by Amy (new)

Amy D. | 171 comments Although I don't think it will help me for the Motley Challenge or the Yearly Challenge, I started Gone to Dust last night. It takes place in Minnesota in January - which is my current reality - and seemed to fit my urge to start a mystery last night (plus it was on my nightstand!).

My first commuting audio book is Death of an Altar Boy: The Unsolved Murder of Danny Croteau and the Culture of Abuse in the Catholic Church

Gone to Dust (Nils Shapiro, #1) by Matt Goldman Death of an Altar Boy The Unsolved Murder of Danny Croteau and the Culture of Abuse in the Catholic Church by E.J. Fleming .

Lillie | 1672 comments The one I'm currently reading, Blacktop Wasteland, will be my first book of the year. Started off with another, In Case of Emergency but had to put it down. It needed a bit too much concentration and I just don't have it in me right now.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 800 comments I finished Book of Souls and started The Shadow Sister and decided to start reading two books at once again, with Purgatory being my bathroom book, as I found the first one was better read in bits rather than all in one go.

Linda C | 8 comments I just finished Chimes of a Lost Cathedral Chimes of a Lost Cathedral (The Revolution of Marina M. #2) by Janet Fitch and that was so long, that I felt like I really needed something totally different. So I went with non fiction The Demon in the Freezer The Demon in the Freezer by Richard Preston . In the never ending saga of COVID, it's useful to remember that there are viruses that killed millions in the past, and still have the potential to decimate the world population as certain rogue nations attempt to create antibiotic resistant strains for nefarious purposes.

Angela (bookangel2) | 15 comments I've put "The Land Beyond the Sea" on hold for the moment, as I've been sent another chunk of a book to review. It's called Betrayal. I haven't read anything by David Gilman before, but it's fast-paced and well written.

message 38: by Suzie (new)

Going to try very hard to wait until the first of January to read it. I had to open the envelope to see what MacMillan sent and the doorway on the cover is saying “Please come read….”

Amy D. | 171 comments I'm a mood reader so I can't be certain, but possibly Demon Copperhead. I'm really interested, but so far my December seems to be filling up with holiday-themed books. And Demon Copperhead is a bit thick for me, so I want to start when I know I have a couple clear reading weeks ahead.

Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver
