I have no ideas on what to propose for reading to the group. I am going to personally try to make time for Master and Apprentice, as I have not read it, yet. I see the group read it in April and there are 123 comments! I'll have delve into those comments after my read.
Don, I'm glad you support the idea.
Honestly, the end of the year kinda got away from us. We never really did anything for the December Group reads apart from creating the threads. That's why I didn't include December books in the list as we're just going to shuffle them to February 2022. That way they will get a chance to "attract" some readers.
So we'll read Path of Destruction and A Test of Courage next month.
As for the rest, despite nominationss and polls there were months where we all slacked off (mods and members included) and a catch up month is a chance to go back and finish some of the books without worrying about new group reads.

Don, I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts on the book. I wasn't thrilled, yet there is a lot to discuss.

I totally fall into the 'slacked off' category. It probably does not need stating, but November and December can be difficult to focus on these things, especially December. This is my first significant time on Good Reads, let alone this group, in months. I'm glad to see you hard at work, as always. :)
The list of books you've posted so far looks really good. That is a lot of books!
Yeah, I'll try to finish the books I had started reading and then laid aside:
The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott (I'm alredy 2/3 through)
Kenobi by John Jackson Miller
& Into the Void by Tim Lebbon.
and maybe the High Republic comic book, vol. 1.
We'll see how successful the catch-up month is going to be and we'll probably repeat it in August. People are usually busy during summer holidays and might appreciate a month off.

Agreed. I am so behind, and need to see when my library will get Lesser Evil, and find the time to fully read Vector Prime. I can never finish it, and I've tried twice. It's not because it's as bad as Courtship of Princess Leia, just I never have the time.

This is problematic for me, too. Salvatore did the exact same thing to Catti Brie, one the Legend Drizzt's saga's most beloved characters, in The Ghost King . It was lazy and shameless then and just as unoriginal in Vector Prime.

May the Force be with you all
May the Force be with you in this new year and beyond. By the light and the Republic, we will get through the dark times into a better world. For the Republic!
P.S: This makes more sense if you've read some of the High Republic books.

Hi, Remi! Welcome to the group!
I see you're catching up with the High Republic books. We're definitely going to read more of them this year.
A Test of Courage next month and I'd like to read the newest HR addition by Claudia Gray The Fallen Star in March (but it depends on the poll results).
UPDATE: Surprisingly The Fallen Star lost to Queen's Shadow.

BTW I managed to finish The Rising Storm by Cavan Scott this week. I did enjoy it, but I've started to see a pattent in the adult High Republic books - there's way too many characters and as a result most of them lack depth. I'd love for the authors to add a couple of books that go deeper into individual characters. It's all a bombastic catastrophic ensemble cast spectacle and I would appreciate a quiter more focused story once in a while.
I shared my thoughts on the book in the Rising Storm Discussion thread here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I've just finished Star Wars: The High Republic, Vol. 1: There Is No Fear by Cavan Scott. Well, I don't think it can stand on its own. If you loved Light of the Jedi and Into the Dark, you might enjoy this lightweight story set on and in the vicinity of the Starlight Beacon. You get to see what Avar Kriss, Master Sskeer and more importantly the Drengir are up to. There are glimpses of other characters, too: Master Yoda, Vernestra Rwoh and her Padawan.

I prioritized the High Republic books though so I'm all caught up with them except for THR Vol:1 @Zuzana I just finished The Fallen Star and there aren't a ton of characters in that one, just a handful of the usuals.
Our group read of Rogue Squadron was my first foray into the Legends books and since then I read the three that followed it to finish off Coran Horn's story. I'm planning on reading the rest of that series this year.
I have so many on my TBR pile though! I still have to read Kenobi!

I am curious about this, so thanks for sharing Kim. Is there a list of what content constitutes Rogue Squadron and the 'Coran Horn' story? Where would one start?

Corran's in lots of books. Try Wookiepedia and see what he's in.

I would say the X-Wing series is where you should start for Corran Horn's story. There are 10 books in the series but in the first four Corran is the main character, so you could really just read those four. His arc and the storyline wraps up within those four books so it doesn't feel like any loose ends are left that would require a read into the next books, if you don't want.
He's the main character in one other book, and then a supporting role in a few others. But don't google them until you've read the first four X-Wings because it could be spoilery. I hate spoilers and I accidentally stepped in one when I was looking into his character!
They are quick reads too and a lot of fun, space battles! They take place about 4-5 years after Return of the Jedi.

Kim, have you read Star Wars The High Republic: Race to Crashpoint Tower by Daniel José Older and Out of the Shadows by Justina Ireland. They are supposed to tie in the Valo Galactic Fair. If so are these any good?
There's also another Ireland's book Star Wars The High Republic: Mission to Disaster that preceeds The Fallen star. It was published this month.
BTW I'm reading Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, Vol. 1 by Older and I kinda prefer it to the "adult" HR comic book run by Cavan Scott. It's about the Padawans Yoda took on the trip to the Outer rim. They face the Nihil. Even Marchion Ro makes an appeareance.

Good to know. I'm a bit burnt out on big ensemble pieces.

Yes I read Out of the Shadows, which I thought was really good. I like Justina Ireland. I got about halfway through Race to Crashpoint and couldn't pick it up again. Older's writing style was kind of irritating, and I know it's a junior novel so I hope that's why. He wrote this wave's YA novel, which I will definitely read too so I hope it is not in the same style as Crashpoint.
I'm not caught up on the comics though and I think the whole THR experience would be better if I was. In the novels it feels like I'm missing something and from what I've seen of the comics I'm pretty sure it's in them!
So how did your catch-up month go?
I managed to clear out only two last year's group reads: The Rising Storm and Star Wars: The High Republic, Vol. 1: There Is No Fear. But better some than none. :)

This month we'll try something different. WE WON'T HAVE AN OFFICIAL GROUP READ IN JANUARY.
We have had a bunch of new members and we read /or tried to read/ quite a lot of Star Wars books over the last 12 months. Not everybody had enough time to participate in all the group reads every month and newbies might have missed out on the opportunity to participate in book discussions on books they were interested in reading.
SO THIS MONTH INSTEAD OF READING A NEW COUPLE OF STAR WARS BOOKS,
EVERYBODY WHO SO WISHES CAN CATCH UP AND READ OLDER GROUP READS.
You can share which books you want to read here in this thread. You can also discuss the books here or you might post in original group read discussion threads. Your choice.
Happy Star Wars reading!
