Around the World in 80 Books discussion

Starting out with the following 5 countries:

Malaysia
Czech Republic
Bulgaria
Tunisia
Oman

I already have Kafka on my reading list for January, so I'll start with that while exploring the possibilities for the other four countries.

Czech republic: Die Verwandlung

I had to read this for a German class, and wasn't looking forward to it, because I found it so disturbing the first time I read it. I was also talked into watching a theater version of it some years back, which was equally disturbing. This time, I found a little easier, fortunately, which could actually be because I reread The Trial last year and suddenly realized that there is a dream logic to all his writing. For me, that made it a lot easier to handle. I never thought I would read Kafka voluntarily again, but now I think I may.
