Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Even though we are all winners (because reading books makes us winners!), we have official prizes to hand out for our 2021 PBT Challenges!

Congratulations to everyone who participated in any capacity! It is our amazing members who make PBT such a fun place to be.

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments Pursue It! Book It! Track It!

For every item you collected over the year, you got one participation point! In any month that you collected all four items, then you got an additional point!

So, the maximum for the year was 60 points, and we had 5 members reach that goal:

Cora
Hannah
Karin
Olivermagnus
Theresa

CONGRATULATIONS!

Everyone else can see their Participation Points in the official scoring spreadsheet and the Admins will get that transferred over to the Participation Points tracker before the next vote.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this challenge! We went so many interesting places and hopefully you enjoyed your destinations.

Each player will receive the following Participation Points, which you can see tallied in the spreadsheet:
-- 1 point for each month you travelled.
-- 5 additional points if you travelled all 12 months.
-- 5 points if you visited all 7 continents.
-- 1 point for each place you visited in real life (max of 3).
-- 2 points if you visited a birthplace/ancestors.
-- 2 points if you guessed the continent that was visited the most.*

We had four members travel over 130,000 miles!!
Nancy J -- 135,054.70 miles
Joy D -- 134,681.39 miles
Karin -- 133,309.01 miles
forsanolim -- 133,136.25 miles

They will receive Amazon GCs for $30, $20, $10, and $5, respectively. Please PM me with your personal email address to receive your gift card.

You can see the Participation Points you eared in the scoring spreadsheet, and the Admins will get that transferred over to the Participation Points tracker before the next vote.

*I have not yet calculated this one yet (I didn't have the energy to count up continents this evening!), but I will get to it in the next couple of days and add points to people where appropriate.

I think you mean the 5 bonus challenges, BC. The mini-challenges were counted above.

YES, I was referring to the BONUS challenges. There were 5 of them, and I don't see them on the spreadsheet anywhere.

message 14: by Nicole R (new)

Nicole R (drnicoler) | 8088 comments BC, the bonus challenges were calculated as we went along and were already entered into the spreadsheet. With the exception of possibly the last one, which is still to be tallied.

Thanks Karin! Congratulations to you too. Your North Pole- South Pole trip was amazing.

Congratulations to Forsonalim and Joy D as well. You set the pace.
Joy, I know it all came down to one bonus tag at the end. You deserved to win.

I had so much fun, I'm going to all 7 continents again this year. But I won't need a spreadsheet this time. Anyone else?

message 28: by Barbara M (new)

Barbara M (barbara-m) | 2597 comments I really enjoyed this challenge. Congrats to the winners. I hadn't intended to even try to rack up points and I did OK but the main thing was that I felt it would be just fun. This is why a join the challenges - to broaden my perspective - and this worked. Just fun, fun, fun! Thank you to our leaders!

message 29: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5760 comments I agree, I finished around the middle, which was just fine. But I'm sure I read more books set around the world than I would have otherwise!

Thank you, Nancy, that's very kind. I did not expect to get as caught up in the competition for miles, but somehow, I just couldn't resist. I am definitely going to hit all 7 continents again this year, and plan to make "reading around the world" a regular part of my process for selecting books.

Congrats to all the top finishers as well as everyone who participated! I am sure we are better off for knowing more about this big world of ours. :-)

message 32: by Theresa (new)

Theresa | 15554 comments Congrats to all! Flying around the world through books was such fun, and had me pulling books from my TBR that had been there too long! I was surprised at how often I was able to match a book from those TBR Towers not only to the country I was visiting but also to monthly tag.

I also absolutely loved the 5 bonus challenges. It was such fun both writing mine and reading everyone's imagined, meals, adventures, and return home.

Anna did Feb, Mar, and Sept. She used a separate column, and they show up on the sheet (columns IP, IS, JA)

I did the points that would have shown up in the June tally. I did not use a separate column and just added 5 pts for each person. You were on my list.

The final tally still need to be compiled and added.

message 34: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 11080 comments I forgot to Congratulate Cora, Hannah, Karin, Olivermagnus, and Theresa for finding every single item in Pursue-It. Some were really hard to find.

I'm now in the habit of requesting kindle versions of books I have in print or audio, just in case I want to search for a name or term.
