Laura When do you want to start? I have to be finished by the 11th or I lose it.

Michelle | 3257 comments I just finished my book. Think I'll jump right in.

Ok I’ll start tonight

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I started it last night. I don't know if I was too tired or what. I couldn't get into the story. I will try again later.

Michelle | 3257 comments Is there an abridged version ?

I will say that prologue is intriguing but I fear he ain't alpha enough for me.

I liked the prologue too. I was disappointed with the next couple chapters. Sometimes, I think it is harder to get into an OK romance after reading a tense mystery. I'm giving myself a break for a day.

Laura Oh no, I’ll let you know what I think later.

Michelle | 3257 comments I tried but the beginning was just boring and I couldn't get stuck in. I think for me it's the style of writing. The subject matter is good. It is historical romance so I make allowances.

Anyway I jumped to the last few chapters and I feel I didn't miss out on much and am enjoying it more now.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I have to agree with Michelle a little. The story is a very slow start for me. 😴 Normally, I like romances when the love interest focuses on trying to capture a person they think they love only to realize s/he isn't the one. Sadly, I can't explain why this story is turning me off so.

I really love Lucinda. She is a great character, loving, loyal, and smart. Unfortunately, I don't care about Gregory at all. 🙁 Then there is Hermione. She is getting on my nerves. I can't even sympathize with her not getting the man she loves because of the crazy double standards of the time.

I haven't jumped ahead yet, but I take long breaks--hours long breaks. I keep telling myself to keep going so I can check off one series early in the year. Hopefully I'll finish tonight. 🤞

How are you doing Laura?

Laura I’m not far in. It put me to sleep, lol. He’s just convinced himself he’s met the love of his life but I’m guessing it will be Lucinda the loyal sidekick who he will realize is who he really loves? Predictable so far.

Michelle | 3257 comments All of them were predictable I feel once I started.

One of the problems I had early in the book was repetitions. Be it a name( I think I read a page were Hermione's name was every other sentence. Felt like it filled the whole page! Okay I've set my font a little bigger, it might be that. But still annoyed me to no end). It felt like the author was being paid by the word or pages or something. Instead of just getting on with it. This lengthy... I've been reading books recently that are 100 pages or thereabouts so this pages of saying the same thing? Nope.can handle it.

The thing is. The storyline I can except. The characters were okay (or the bits of them I actually did read.) The twist in the end worked. Everything should work but it just falls short.

Michelle | 3257 comments I almost want to say the first few books I had the Netflix show with faces and voices in my minds eye and ear. It helped somehow. It also had me seeing what was used in that first season or what was twisted. And what they took dramatic licence in the show with.

Could this be what has lost the spark for me? I'm not invested in it until the show reaches this far in the series, if it will get this far that is.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I loved most of the books in this series. Romancing Mr. Bridgerton and When He was Wicked were OK, but I still got into the stories.

This one I don't know what to say. There was too much Gregory pining / chasing after Hermione. Then when he quickly shifts gears and loves Lucy. I knew Lucy was going to be the one but the way it happened didn't work for me.

I ended up increasing the speed on the audio book to move this story along.

I like Lucy and Gregory together, but the deception by Lucy's uncle then Lucy with Gregory the night before her wedding turned me off. I'm on another break now before I listen to how Gregory is going dealing with knowing the truth.

This is a good premise for the story, but the execution sucks.

Laura I’m reading this out of the box set so I have no idea how far I am but I am up to the day after the masked ball. Hermione and Frederick were outed and now engaged, Lucy and Gregory kissed and she realizes she is in love with him, Gregory I’m not sure yet on his feelings. I like getting some Kate.
I HATE how Lucy is described always, the latest her hair isn’t very blond her eyes aren’t very blue or something like that. Ugghh how degrading. She writes these heroines as always being less, or second best and that the Bridgerton men are above them or something. Very annoying.
Lucy and her brother are leaving to see the uncle so I’ll soon see what he is up to.
Please tell me I’m almost done.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments You are halfway there is more drama ahead.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I agree with you about the way Lucy is described. It is sad that most of the women are described as less than. It is frustrating.

Laura Only half? Ugghh

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments I think that was around the midpoint or maybe 60%. I was listening and cranked the speed up 1.5% to go faster. Also the 2nd epilogue is included on the audio. I don't know if that is included in the box set.

Ok so I’m guessing the twist is the arranged marriage is really for the father? Just a guess the way he was acting at the dinner.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments Do you mean the uncle?

Michelle | 3257 comments That father was horrible!! Asking her to do her tables. I did not like that the son just sat there and did nothing until right at the end to say something.

I so sorry Laura. I actaully restarted after the kiss between Lucy and Gregory. Days later I think. Cheated big time.. I will say the rest was worth it for me.

Ok I'm done. I was thinking Habernathys father was the real groom with him checking her over like a piece of livestock.
I gave it three stars it had a good story but Lucy and Gregory were blah I didn't really feel much for them or feel any chemistry. The second epilogue was pointless.
Usually when I finish series I'm sad and will miss it , but this series I feel relief and thank god that's over lol.
Historicals are not for me.
Thanks for sticking with this you two. Maybe sometime we can come up with a buddy read we don't have to force ourselves to stick with? 😂

Michelle | 3257 comments This was rather blah. You'd think the author would finish with a bang. But this is so underwhelming I almost wonder why she bothered.

Yes. We really need to find something that will make us forget about this.

Till next time.

I thought you were talking about Lucy's uncle. There was something way off with Habernathy's father. I thought he was embarrassed that his son was gay. He wanted to protect his title. In the end, Habernathy stood up to his father. Habernathy was the best man in the mix.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 2090 comments Normally, I like historicals. I tend to stick to historical mysteries/romantic suspense. They have more action to sink into.

Quinn's writing style doesn't seem to work for long serials. She loses her creativity or ability to come up with new plots that have spark.

It looks like 3 stars is our magic number.
