Nancy (paper_addict) It’s time to think about February book club!

No self nominations.

Here is a link to books already read by the group:

**Nominations**

Yestertime by Andrew Cunningham
Yestertime

"I'm going to die a hundred years before I was born..."

The handwritten note was in a dusty trunk that sat in a cave untouched for 150 years. What did the words mean? When journalist Ray Burton finds the trunk near the Arizona ghost town of Hollow Rock, his life changes in an instant.

Something in the trunk shouldn’t be there.

This begins a dangerous journey of discovery bordering on the impossible. A discovery that will affect the past, the present, and the future.

The End of Eternity by Isaac Asimov
The End of Eternity

Andrew Harlan is an Eternal, a man whose job it is to range through past and present Centuries, monitoring and, where necessary, altering Time's myriad cause-and-effect relationships. But when Harlan meets and falls for a non-Eternal woman, he seeks to use the awesome powers and techniques of the Eternals to twist time for his own purposes, so that he and his love can survive together.

Hominids (Neanderthal Parallax, #1) by Robert J. Sawyer
Hominids

Neanderthals have developed a radically different civilization on a parallel Earth. A Neanderthal physicist, Ponter Boddit, accidentally passes from his universe into a Canadian underground research facility. Fortunately, a team of human scientists, including expert paleo-anthropologist Mary Vaughan, promptly identifies and warmly receives Ponter. Solving the language problem and much else is a mini-computer, called a Companion, implanted in the brain of every Neanderthal. A computerized guardian spirit, however, doesn't eliminate cross-cultural confusion; permanent male-female sexuality, rape, and overpopulation are all alien to Ponter. Nor can it help his housemate and fellow scientist back in his world, Adikor Huld, when the authorities charge Adikor with his murder.

Enchantment by Orson Scott Card
Enchantment

The moment Ivan stumbled upon a clearing in the dense Carpathian forest, his life was forever changed. Atop a pedestal encircled by fallen leaves, the beautiful princess Katerina lay still as death. But beneath the foliage a malevolent presence stirred and sent the ten-year-old Ivan scrambling for the safety of Cousin Marek's farm.

Now, years later, Ivan is an American graduate student, engaged to be married. Yet he cannot forget that long-ago day in the forest--or convince himself it was merely a frightened boy's fantasy. Compelled to return to his native land, Ivan finds the clearing just as he left it.

This time he does not run. This time he awakens the beauty with a kiss . . . and steps into a world that vanished a thousand years ago.

A rich tapestry of clashing worlds and cultures, Enchantment is a powerfully original novel of a love and destiny that transcend centuries . . . and the dark force that stalks them across the ages.

Well worth reading. One of my all-time favorites!

message 3: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) The End of Eternity because it ought to be on our shelves, I think, seeing as the author, Isaac Asimov, is basically canon.

Also there's a Russian film, just over an hour, and subtitled: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrqwF...

Nancy (paper_addict) We need a few more nominations…..

Irinel Finco (myhoney) | 20 comments Hominids by Robert J. Sawyer. Is more like parallel universes than time travel, but really good.

It is good, and it does have a portal... I'd like to consider it.

Nancy (paper_addict) So The End of Eternity won the poll. I must have missed checking if this book had been read before by the group. I usually check each book. Oh well, it was back in 2012. New people, new decade! I will get a new thread started. Feel free to find the old thread but beware of spoilers.

Cheryl (cherylllr) I'm sorry; I thought I checked.
Well, I'm not sure I was here then, either. Thank you!

I must have assumed you did. I usually double check. It’s no biggie. I wasn’t here then either!
