I am reading the House in the Cerulean Sea right now and liking it so far!

I'm already on my second book of the year, here's hoping to smash that goal this time round!

All books on my tbr! I'm really interested in the Anthropocene Reviewed. I used to love John Green books, but then I kind of "aged out" of his style of young adult books. So I was quite excited to hear he had a new book out in a different genre. And the premise seems really interesting. How are you liking it so far?

It was just so warm and feel good! Plus, I loved TJ Klune's writing style. It had so much personality- it actually reminded me a bit of Hitchhikers Guide or Good Omens. Sort of quirky and witty. I'm not sure if there is a word for that style of writing, but I would definitely say it is my favorite!

I don't read a lot of detective stories, but I just read Beaches, Bungalows, and Burglaries by Tonya Kappes which is a cozy mystery. A genre I had never even heard of until the StoryGraph genres challenge (love StoryGraph's challenges, wish there was a better way to discuss the books I'm reading over there). It was... like the lifetime movie of books? Like, fun, but also kind of terrible haha

Already 8% into your goal and only like 1% into the year. Off to a strong start!

I really enjoyed the Midnight Library! It was a fun read. I don't think the overall message of the story truly landed with me- I just don't think I was the right audience for it. But, its a book I wouldn't hesitate to buy (borrowed it from the library to read the first time), I'd be happy to own and reread!

I started reading for pleasure again in September 2021 after not finishing a book in about 6 years (I tried a few times to get back into reading but never properly committed). I managed 16 books by December so I'm hopeful I'll reach this year's goal!
I'm currently reading the Daevabad trilogy by S Chakraborty. My favourite books from 2021 were probably House on the Cerulean Sea and Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune. I also really enjoyed To Sleep In A Sea Of Stars by Christopher Paolini but - similar to how I felt reading the Eragon series as a kid - the ending was a tad unsatisfying for me.

I had a lot of favorites last year, so hard to pick!
I mainly read SFF (always been a sci-fi fan, but learning to love fantasy). Beyond that, I read some nonfiction, and I really should read more historical fiction.

Same favorite book of 2021! The House in the Cerulean Sea. I love that whimsical narration style. It reminded me of my favorite book, the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. And I just started Good Omens, which also has a similar tone. I'm excited to read some other TJ Klune books this year

Favorite fiction last year was The Shining
Favorite nonfiction was Red Sea Spies: The True Story of Mossad's Fake Holiday Resort. A true story that reads like a spy novel - absolute insanity and highly highly recommend.
I got off to a quick start with 7 books already read this year (not super long). I want to read more hefty books this year, so I won't mind if I don't hit the 52 book goal as long as I hit my 20,000 page goal - which was equal to my reading last year. Nice to meet everyone in the group :)

Really enjoyed The Overstory, ir was a great way to start 2022 for me.
The book I enjoyed the most last year was Seneca’s Letters from a Stoic.
Although it may not seem so I usually prefer sci-fi and fantasy but I read all kinds of books ans it was just recently that I got interested in philosophy and psychology (covid has away of doing that to people I guess 😅).

The House in the Cerulean Sea is one of my earliest completed books in 2022.
I am Christina, I am from the Vancouver BC area,
Adding to Renato's statement of recently getting into philosophy, I added some The School of Life series titles to my offline to-read list. I read that philosophy discussions can improve my comfort in and experience of parties, whenever they start up again.
I gravitate towards satire, humour, mysteries, camp, 20th century GB & US lit, early 20th-c. illustration, 1970s Dell Yearling paperbacks, gothic/horror for young people, food history, cookbooks.
My catnip is mysteries where historic persons from Hollywood or the White House are cosleuthing or hiring the sleuth.
I'd love to see this group get some activity going again, if anyone is interested? Maybe some introductions, book recommendations, potential book clubs. I don't know, what do you guys think?
I'll start with a brief introduction: I'm Kelly, my favorite book I read last year was the House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. My favorite book of all time is Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. I like literary fiction, books about nature, and fantasy. And I want to read 52 books this year, one book a week.
