Linda | 98 comments I really enjoy the books where the Bennets are either secretly wealthy or better connected than appears. These usually end up with the best scenes of Caroline Bingley getting her comeuppance. I've read many of these, such as several of Sydney Salier books, Any recommendations? Is there a Goodreads list I can't find?

It does give a different slant to things. I can't remember many where the whole family is wealthy, but here are a few I read that are something like that and some with Lizzy wealthy and his social superior:

Darcy and the Duchess by Mary Anne Mushatt
Alias Thomas Bennet by Suzan Lauder
The Falmouth Connection by Joana Starnes
I Never Knew Myself: A Pride and Prejudice Variation by Melanie Rachel
In Plain Sight: A Pride & Prejudice Variation by Don Jacobson
A Royal Bennet by Melanie Schertz

I know I read a few others that have the same I idea, but maybe others can come up with more.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments In my trope file, I have a section labeled as titled or connections. I know some are repeats of the above but here is my list. I had it divided into sections.

Elizabeth
>A Bennet of Royal Blood: Shana Granderson: King George III forced his son to divorce his wife due to political reasons. He needed an alliance with another country through marriage. The prince had married the daughter of an earl and she did not tell him she was expecting when he told her his father’s decree. They lived at Netherfield Park and she was friends with Fanny Bennet. Both ladies were with child. They went into confinement together. Fanny delivered a stillborn son and her friend delivered a healthy girl. The lady soon died but swapped babies with Fanny. Thomas had been away and returned home never knowing the difference. Thus, Elizabeth was a princess. Darcy’s father accepted the Dukedom so young Darcy would be a Marquess and could marry the princess.

>Bonded Hearts: Fancyface8105: Elizabeth married His Grace, Fitzwilliam Darcy, the third Duke of Derbyshire and Earl of Bedfork. She was also the granddaughter of His Grace, The Duke of Wellington… the famous General.
>Compromised & Consequence: Sue Bar:
Excerpt: “I wonder what the high and mighty Darcy will think when he finds out he plopped a distant cousin to the Spanish King into his estate in Derbyshire?”
“He may never know, unless José informs their Majesties here in England, which I doubt as grandfather is now deceased. I am simply Lizzy Bennet of Hertfordshire, not Elizabeth Rose Isabella de Cortez Bennet, granddaughter of Count Frederick de Cortez of Luciana.”
“You will always be the granddaughter of a count and cousin to a king. You are well within your right to exert a little control now.”

>Fleeing Destiny: Fancyface9105: Best quote EVER: “…Miss Elizabeth Bennet shall be Her Grace, the Duchess of Everything, Countess of EvenMore, and Baroness of AllThatsLeft.”
>Follies and Nonsense: Martin Hunnicutt: Jane’s fiancé and Elizabeth’s husband had been killed fighting Napoleon. They were an arranged marriages and engagement by their parents. Elizabeth’s son would be the next earl.

Lady Elizabeth’s father was now Henry Fitzroy Bennet, 5th Earl of Arlington. She and Jane were cousins. She visited Longbourn once or twice a year and was there for the assembly and Darcy’s insult. He managed to apologize before he realized who she was. That set them on the right track. Lord Bennet arrived later while Jane was recovering and Darcy asked for her hand. Caroline fainted when she heard.
>[Unpub] It might have all been different: Book Two: leavesfalling up: 8-16-21 Ch 20: Last minute entries to the Assembly: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13923451...
Elizabeth had married Colonel Stephen Fitzwilliam. When he retired Queen Victoria and Parliament had a surprise waiting for them in the form of a barony. Due to his service, the Crown combined the properties of Longbourn and Netherfield Park and made Stephen the new Baron of Longbourn. Collins had died without an heir after bankrupting Longbourn through poor management and spending habits. The property was seized by the Crown.
>[*Unpub] It’s all in the details: leavesfallingup: Ch 8: Blood or Rearing: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14015910...
Blurb: “Life and circumstances decree that Caroline E. Bingley and Elizabeth C. Bennet have much different childhoods than in canon… with unexpected results for one and all.”
Short one-shot displaying nature vs nurture or blood vs rearing: Caroline was good and Elizabeth was a bitter harpy. Goodness, she was a mess. I hope they don’t write this trope again. Elizabeth and her aunt/mother went to Bath where she met a recently rejected James Rushworth. They married and she became the mistress of Sotherton Court. Darcy married Caroline.
>[*Unpub] It’s all in the details: leavesfallingup: Ch 10: Royal Expectations: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14015910...
Blurb: “Thomas Bennet is far from indolent. In fact, he has been training Jane and Elizabeth assiduously since they were very young to take on their future responsibilities. With the end of the conflict with France, the time is now here for them to return to where they belong. How will this impact their interactions with Bingley and Darcy?” [Author’s note: the new 1811 is now 1815]
Bennet had been a tutor in Genova when Napoleon rose in power. Jane’s father was a prince of the realm and Jane was sent to England with the tutor and his family for her protection. Her Grandmother, Queen Antoinette, went into exile. Years later, when peace was established, the Queen came for her granddaughter… Princess Jane.
For Elizabeth’s service she was dubbed Duchess Oakham. The Prince Regent would not recognize a title bestowed upon a woman. It would only be recognized in Genovia.
>On Equal Ground: Elizabeth Adams: a very young Elizabeth married Robert Talbot [the Earl of Asheland]. He later died and Darcy comes to her aid.
>[Unpub] Our Lady of Longbourn: leavesfallingup: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13151029...
Elizabeth becomes a Lady in her own right by special appointment of the Crown. LOVE this story.
>[Unpub] Pride comes before the fall: Jannet Doe: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8425681/... Darcy & Bingley do not return to Netherfield. Jane married a wealthy man and Elizabeth married the Earl of Hampshire. Caroline failed to recognize that Miss Eliza may have been a lady; however, she was now a Lady. She would pay for that snub with a cut direct from the Earl… Elizabeth’s husband.
>Saving Elizabeth Bennet: Melanie Schertz: M/M Bennet and Lydia are murdered and Jane was shot leaving her with a lift altering disability. Elizabeth had taken a governess job and her employer nearly killed her in a sexual assault attempt. Charles Bingley happened to have an appointment and interrupted the assault. He took her and hid her away from the guy trying to kill her. Jane, Elizabeth, Mary, and Kitty learn the Bennet family is related to the Bentley family. Their cousin is an Earl. He sends notice to the papers claiming the girls and placing them under his protection.
>The Duchess of Devonshire: Fancyface8105: Elizabeth and Mary are gentlemen’s daughters, and granddaughters of two earls. Their mother was Lady Beverly Bennet née Jordan, daughter to Lord William Jordan, the Earl of Holder.
>The Reintroduction of Fitzwilliam Darcy: Christine Combe: Elizabeth and her sisters are the daughters of a baronet.

Jane

Her Grandmother, Queen Antoinette, went into exile. Years later, when peace was established, the Queen came for her granddaughter… Princess Jane. Jane married a minor prince from Russia.
>[Unpub] Our Lady of Longbourn: leavesfallingup: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/13151029...
Jane married Captain Stephen Archer, second son of Lord Archer, the Earl of Kirby. His elder brother was dead; however, his father, and his nephew were still living. He did not expect to inherit the earldom. That would change when both the earl and the viscount died from scarlet fever.

Mr. Bennet
>A Bennet of Royal Blood: Shana Granderson: King George III forced his son to divorce his wife due to political reasons. He needed an alliance with another country through marriage. >[Unpub] Cinder Lizzy: Fredrica: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12737637...
Mr. Bennet had an estranged sister that few knew about: Caroline nearly swallowed her tongue when “The Right Honourable Baroness Mickleham, Lady Sempronia Bennet Froome” arrived at the Netherfield Ball.
>Consequence & Consequences: Sydney Sailer: Mr. Bennet’s great-great-Uncle has died. He was a Duke and Thomas Bennet is his heir. The patent was changed and approved by the King and Elizabeth is his heir and a Marchioness.
>[Unpub] The Duchess of Devonshire: Fancyface8105: The Honorable Thomas Bennet, second son of Lord Johnathan Bennet, the Earl of Westington.
>Unknown Family Connections: Shana Granderson: Mr. Bennet discovers he is a Duke. The reviews aren’t promising. This is a second Mrs. Bennet who is, in fact, the daughter of an earl. She just goes by Mrs. Bennet

Mrs. Bennet [or any woman married to Mr. Bennet]

>[Unpub] Bonded Hearts: fancyface8105: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/12486751...
Elizabeth’s mother was Lady Elizabeth Wellington; thus, the general was her grandfather.
>[Unpub] Redemption: jfb: 5-stars: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/8024099/...
Bennet doesn’t have a title; however, he is the 4th or 5th son of an Earl. Elizabeth’s and Jane’s mother was an Osbourn and daughter of an Earl, she died when Elizabeth was born. Jane was actually bastard daughter of the King. Her mother was accosted by the mad king while she was a waiting woman for the Queen. Bennet received money for raising the child and he and his wife fell in love and they had Elizabeth. He later married Fanny so the girls would have a woman’s influence. Fanny loved Jane but not Elizabeth.
>Unknown Family Connections: Shana Granderson: Mr. Bennet discovers he is a Duke. The reviews aren’t promising. This is a second Mrs. Bennet who is, in fact, the daughter of an earl. She just goes by Mrs. Bennet

Chelsea (crystal_dark) | 106 comments I only remember reading one like this were Mr. Bennet secretly had really good dowries for all the girls but he was only planning on giving them the good dowry if they made a love match so none of the girls knew about it. I do not remember what book it was or even if it was only 1, it may have been a series of books. I also feel like it may have been written by Leenie Brown but I am not sure. I will need to look into and see if I can figure it out.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments Thanks, Tlotem. There are many not on that list as it is still a WIP that I will be adding to for some time. As I find new and old stories... I will try to remember to add them to my Trope File.

J. W. Garrett (jeannewallacegarrett) | 907 comments LOL! It also saves me time as well. Since I have it in a Word document, it is easy to use the find option... and it will take me right to it.

I remember that one because Mary married Mr. Collins without loving him and Mr. Bennet didn’t give her the secret dowry.

Aly Schne (abbynormale) | 1 comments I was looking into A Bennet of Royal Blood by Shana Granderson and I swear I feel like I've read that exact story premise before despite having never read that book... not even the sample. One review mentioned it being similar to A Royal Disposition: A Pride and Prejudice Novel by Amy Cecil. However, I've read that before years ago and a brief look back at the sample in my Kindle Library and I know that's not what has my brain niggling from the book's description. Is there anyone else who might know what other book or unpublished story I'm thinking of? It's truly driving me crazy.
