Mock Newbery 2026 discussion

"During the selection meetings, the committee discusses all nominated and suggested books before beginning balloting. Each committee member votes for three books, with four points assigned to first choice, three points to second choice, and two points to third choice."

The book with the most points will become our award winner. The second and third runners up will become our honor books.


Please list in order your three choices for the 2022 Mock Newbery award.

Your first pick will be awarded 4 points.
Your second choice will be awarded 3 points.
Your final selection will be awarded 2 points.

Points will not be given to any books mentioned past the third selection and only books from our voting list will be eligible.

This is not my vote, but I wanted to mention that I attended the Heavy Medal Zoom session, "What's It Really Like" by the SLJ Heavy Medal bloggers yesterday. They used the official process you describe, but had different books as their finalists. They came up with Starfish as the winner, Amber & Clay as their only honor. Thanks for sharing, Susie. I hope there are at least 3 Newbery honor books for 2022. So many worthy titles. Watercress is a beautiful book. Personally, I wouldn't be thrilled if it won a Newbery. The art is the standout.
