I checked the book out again and I don’t see “pug” in the same spot as the rest. It’s sprinkled all over the place because he IS a pug. I don’t have a specific page number because it’s an ebook. But here’s from chapter 4: “Potato, the only purebred dog we had right now...a poor pup with a torn ear who looked like, well, a potato.”

Thank you! I checked on Amazon and that's page 43. "I breathed a sigh of relief that Potato, the only purebred dog we had right now was safe and sound back at Orphan Paws."

That's worth 2 points. The poor pup is a different sentence (it's supposed to be "a sentence from the book where the animal is mentioned"). :/

No worries! I completely understand about being busy. :)
I usually try to search the book myself anyway, so I only asked since I couldn't find a sentence that fit all that. :/

Um, Melanie, you never said it had to be the same sentence. You said “somehow in the same place” and it’s in a single paragraph...???? This points system is really difficult to figure out.

I would be OK with getting three points because I couldn’t find it all in one spot but I think since you weren’t clear to begin with that I should get the three points.

Where the round is posted it says "***Please mention in your book submission a sentence from the book where the animal is mentioned."

I don't remember saying somehow in the same place; but, if I did, I'm sorry about any confusion as that didn't mean paragraph. I believe all my examples were a single sentence.

That’s not clear. I asked you directly when you changed the rules to allow for points for animals’ names/titles instead of just their type, and you said “the same place”…now you are changing the rules a third time. That isn’t fair to me as a reader. I spent a lot of time that I did not have to spend, on finding and reading this book that was not on my TBR.

Edit: I finally found the spot you referred to. I never recall having seen that before. I read the post when it was originally posted within five minutes and then used the template on the round thread here to make my completion post. That has been sufficient in every other team challenge we have done. If your round template isn’t complete, and you add special rules after the original post, that’s not on me. Obviously I’m not the only player who is having issues with communication here.

And you didn’t ask other players to provide a sentence before counting their points. There are books counted on more than one team that didn’t “provide a sentence.”

If so, I didn't change any rule to allow points for names/types - it was already a rule from when this challenge was first played and it was in the details for the Animal category on both the sign-up page and Round One post. (view spoiler)[

Any pet or animal in the story - either their given name or animal classification.

Example:
The letter called for this is Z (again not one that will actually be used), you could read:

A book that has an animal named Zoe (PET'S GIVEN NAME)
A book with a zebra in it (ANIMAL CLASSIFICATION)


If by chance there's a book with a zebra called Zoe, it would still only be worth one point unless the animal was called Zoe the Zebra in the story at least once.

If I switch rules now and allow paragraphs, then that could affect other book submissions. I know the book I read would be worth more, because the next sentence mentioned the pup's name which was Bonnie Prince Charles.


I did edit the round one post 8 minutes after I posted. It was the first round posted and I had no template. I believe the reminder on page length was also added in that edit; difficult to remember, exactly. But it wasn't a special rule, just a clarification on what to include in the submission that round. The generic 'Example how to post' comment was for a category (location) which wouldn't need a sentence, just the location where it was found (i.e. back cover or Page 9).


I've been trying to be lenient about missing sentences in a submission post, so I just check the book myself and if I can't find a sentence that works, I ask. There actually was one other book that didn't work, as it was a name of a tavern, not an animal in the story.

I'm sorry for the confusion and I feel bad that you read a book not on your TBR thinking it would be worth more than it was. I try my best to answer questions and post challenge rules clearly, but obviously I'm not perfect and I apologize for any error on my part.
