Welcome to our second month of reading memoirs/biographies. This month we are reading Hunger: A Memoir of (My) Body by Roxane Gay. Roxane Gay is coming to UCSB A&L on Friday, February 25, so we thought it would be timely and fitting to read one of her books.
This will be my first time reading Roxane Gay and my expectations are high! I've heard excellent things about her writing and I'm excited to jump in.
You can borrow a physical copy from the Santa Barbara Public Library, listen to the audiobook on Hoopla or Libby, or read the ebook on Hoopla or Libby. Visit independent.com/indybookclub for direct links.
We will also be hosting a virtual Zoom discussion for this title on Wednesday, February 23 at 6p.m. The discussions are very informal and lots of fun. We usually spend about half the time discussing the book, and the rest of the time, sharing recommendations with one another. It's a great resource for finding your next read! You can register for the zoom discussion here: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/regis...
Enjoy the read and I hope to see you all at the discussion!
- Emily
p.s. If you are unable to make the discussion, feel free to reply to this post with your thoughts! Each month, I get a few emails from readers who were unable to attend the discussion, but still want to chat about the read. I'd love for this space to become a platform where we can come together and share thoughts and ideas around books. So, don't be shy! Jump in and start a conversation :)
