Winter Kill - February 2022 Reread

I know! 2015 seems like so long ago, doesn’t it?
I’m so glad you like this idea. I love rereading favorites, and there are some *cough*AdrienEnglish*cough* that I reread very often, and others that I just... don’t. Doesn’t mean I don’t like them or wouldn’t enjoy them just as much a second time around. So this is a great opportunity to reread old favorites.
I have both the eBook and eAudiobook for Winter Kill, but I think I’ll stick to audio? Problem is, I JUST, in December, finished a yearlong re-listen to JCP’s Psycop, with Gomez Pugh as the narrator. Last time I listened to Winter Kill I kept hearing Vic in my head. Lol. So it’s probably bad timing to do the audiobook. Not to mention I just started, finally, reading Seasons, so do have Vic in my head, even if not actually via Gomez.
Sigh... lol.

I remember we were watching a lot of Nordic noir on Amazon (Flaming swans, anyone? Church hangings?) when I wrote this one. Also, we were in process of moving into the new house and it was cold and empty, which furthered the Nordic noir vibe. I would sit in my empty office waiting for deliveries or repairmen and type away in my thick sweater and wool socks. :-D

I have the worst memory ever... but I vaguely recall you watching Nordic noir, once upon a time!

I'm listening to the audio version of Winter Kill too - it's one of my favorite comfort re-listens :).

It's here, I wanted to post it in ''What we are listening'', and then I forgot:
Jordan Castillo Price Interview with Gomez Pugh

I haven’t yet, but thank you for reminding me about it! I should put it on my todo list so I don’t forget. Lol. And thanks, Antonella for the handy link!

I'm also hoping Sam would make an appearance. Mwahaha. Can't wait to see the "Boss" side of him.
And I'm curious about Darling. :)

YEAH!!!! So glad you could join us for this!

My library audiobook hold came in this morning for a different book, so I've dived into that one, but will do Winter Kill right after that. :-) Can't wait!

Glad to see J.J. "I hate the ACT" Russell again. lol And he is complaining, as usual. In his eyes, he is really unlucky with getting partnered. First Darling, then West. XD Though I guess in the end West wasn't that bad. :DDD

Now that I think about it, there may have been an ex mentioned there too.

Yes! Except it All's Fair (Elliot & Tucker), not Dangerous Ground. I love finding the ways in which Josh's books are intertwined.

Wow, I totally mixed that up,didn't I. Taylor, Tucker... almost. XD

It's even better for me, coz I'm reading backwards. I read Josh's most recent books first, and I'm slowly eating my way back. :)

Time for a reread I think. :-)

It's one of the books I get the most requests for a sequel on. But the lesson of The Ghost Had an Early Check-out, is don't write it unless you *really* feel the need for a follow-up.

LOL. Well, they do share a certain ruthless sensibility.

We watched a ton! All the original Wallenders and then a bunch of other series, one about a female cop, one about a female journalist. The original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series. So many good things. But startlingly dark.

Hey, stranger!

Hey, stranger!

Adam and Rob have great chemistry. Rob is the kind of guy who always tries to lighten an awkward moment with some silliness, I had to laugh at his antics.
Ah, I liked it. :D
I still need to catch up on the third book in the All's Fair series, might as well reread the first two as well. ;)

It is because it's not one of my personal favorites, although I knew when I wrote it, it was going to do well.
Also, I fell in love with Sam in that book. :-D

Right? Even more difficult than imagining him naked. ;-D

Speaking of which, don't Rob and Adam show up in one of the Murder Mystery series? Or maybe I'm thinking of a coda for Winter Kill?

I'm always up for a sequel to any Josh book. However, in some cases I think it's because we just want to see that things work out okay down the road. And that's why the codas are even more special!

Monet Murders was basically Winter Kill 1.5. 🤭

And again, the scene in Rob's house - when he runs upstairs to get supplies and then dive bombs the couch and Adam knees him in the belly.
Oh my gosh, I die laughing every time! I can absolutely picture that first scene. We used to vacay in a resort just like that in Northern Minnesota, complete with Native American museum, lake, rustic cabins, and the only restaurant within many miles.
Rob's such a goofy sweet guy, just what Adam needs to pull him out of his shell.
It's hard for me to imagine Adam and Tucker together - they're both too dominant (IMHO) lol.
Now I'm seriously craving Fair Game though. I don't think I can resist a re-read.
I don't recall, off hand, which season Fair Game is set in, but I will definitely put it on one of our polls for this year!
I am super excited to start the audiobook for Winter Kill on my walk this morning! ... soon as I get out of bed. Lol.
I forgot there was a side character named Jordan in this one! How could I forget? Lol
I had several thoughts I wanted to share, but I’m doing the audiobook, and didn’t stop to write them down, so I’ve already forgotten them. Poo.
What I can say, is that, aside from this really good story, I like Gomez’s voice for the sheriff. I like her a lot as a character too.
I vaguely recall a thought I had about dementia... hopefully it’ll come back to me soon! Silly brain. But really, this novel is extremely engaging!

We chose to pick four titles by Josh to reread this year. We are spreading them out, one book per season, and thus, we are choosing the books based on the seasons represented within the books.
Our February 2022 read has a Winter theme, and we voted on Winter Kill!
For those who are interested, here are two other discussions we've had in the past about this book:

Feel free to start reading and chatting about the book as soon as you would like! However, if you are new to Winter Kill, please know that there will very likely be spoilers in this discussion, so read at your own risk. This is a reread for many of us, but new readers are more than welcome!
Happy Reading and Happy Chatting!
