If you are joining us for Book Club+ MPC selection, "How to Stop Time" by Matt Haig, we begin our online discussion about Tom Hazard who returns to London to be a history teacher. Tom is carrying secrets about himself. He has a rare condition that has allowed to remain alive for centuries. Tom is being watched by a secret group called the Albatross Society. They offer protection but with a price, Tom is not allowed to fall in love so he can continue to live his life without question. He is able to do this until he meets someone...

How to Stop Time:

Tom Hazard was born in 1581 and suffers from a rare condition called anageria. He ages but a much slower pace than other people. This condition allows him to have a stronger immune system that keeps him alive longer, but eventually the protection wears away.

People like Tom are able to live for many centuries undetected, but if they are not careful or if others discover their secret find themselves in danger of losing their lives.

Tom decides to return to London after being gone for many years. No one would remember him, so he figures it would be safe to return. Tom had only been in love once in his life to Rose. He visits Rose who is very ill. He visits Rose and asks about Marion their daughter who has disappeared. Rose passes. Tom decides to visit the hackney Pet Rescue Services as he wanders the streets of London. He decides to adopt a dog named Abraham.

He decides to try to find Dr. Hutchinson who specializes in diseases of the skin and learn more about himself. Dr. Hutchinson does not want to talk to Tom and pretends he doesn't remember meeting him many years ago. Tom is not giving up on talking to Dr. Hutchinson. He goes to a nearby park and comes across a French woman who seems very interested in him. He returns home and prepares for his history classes.

What secrets is Tom Hazard hiding? Will he be able to find his daughter Marion? What will he find out from Dr. Hutchinson about his rare condition? This secret society is watching him, they are dangerous, can Tom avoid them and stay alive? Who is this French woman and what is her story? She seems very interested in Tom? He is curious about her, can he risk getting personal with her?
