25.5 - Nick KY’s Task: Scarecrow Leftovers

Here are some “leftovers” adapted from the suggestions for Spring tasks – plus one of my own.

Select one option.
Required: State the option.

Option 1. Read two books from one or two of the following Suggestions. Both books should be below 500 pp in length, but total 500+ pp.:

Suggestion 1. From Lisa: "Ease on Down the Road":
Read a book from this list: Books by Black Authors
Required: State which page your choice(s) fall on.

Suggestion 2. From Dee: Freely adapting Dee’s “BRAIN” idea to be topical:
Read a book with the letter sequence “RAIN” intact in a word in the title/subtitle. Examples: Rain, Brain, Grain, Ukraine.

Suggestion 3. From me: I always watched "The Wizard of Oz" on TV. (Once, in college, I saw it on the big screen. The student audience sang along impromptu. It was strange.)
Read a book from the first 10 pages of GR’s “TV” genre list.
OR
Read a book from GR’s “Mass Communication” list.
Required: State the list and which page your choice(s) fall on.

Option 2. Read ONE book of 500+ pp which fits at least one of the above suggestions.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Well, I've always wanted to read "The Stand" and this is my opportunity.

I just want to make sure that option 2 with its 500+ page count means I can read a book with over 1000 pages.
Thanks!

Nick (doily) | 3392 comments You sure can read a 1000+ page book as your single option 2 book.

Shelby (stang_lee) | 927 comments Kind of a weird question - but for Option 1 - Books by Black Authors, if the first book in a series by a black author is on the list, but none of the other books are could we read a later book in the series?

I was thinking specifically about The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms. It's #144 on the list, but The Kingdom of Gods (#3 in the series) is not.

I will check with the mods on whether there is a "default" rule on this allowing for other books in a series. If there is not, then you may be out of luck.

Just got a quick reply from the mods:

"if the book on the list is in a series, you cannot substitute a different book in the series."

I could make an exception, but it would have to be for every book on the list, and there could be problems with that in the future which my feeble mind might have trouble dealing with.

Thanks for the question. At this stage of the game, you can probably find another spot for your book in the many challenges. Good luck.

No worries. That's pretty much what I figured, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. :)

Does this mean my two books can be from the same suggestion?

I am pretty sure yes but want to double check, thank you!!

I don't know if it makes a difference to your planning or not, but Opt. 2 is a one book option (over 500 pp) and Nightengale: An Anthology for Ukraine would work for that.
